Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a method of treating sugar containing waste water, which comprises a pre- treatment process for mixing the waste water with sludge for contact with each other and fermenting the same under anaerobic condition, before subjecting the waste water to the treatment with activated sludge, whereby it is enabled to promote sedimentation of sludge and prevent generation of scum in the succeeding processes.
CONSTITUTION: Sugar containing waste water and superfluous sludge produced in activated sludge tank are mixed together in mixing tank 3, adjusting pH of mixture liquid at 4W9, concentration of activated sludge at 500W20000 ppm and concentration of oxygen dissolved in the mixture liquid at a value lower than 1 ppm. Then, the mixture liquid is introduced into fermentation tank 4, where it is fermented under anaerobic condition to separate all of sugar contained in waste water into CO2 gas and water and NO- 2, NO- contained in the waste water and sludge into N2 or N2O gas and dischange them to the outside of the system. Then, the mixture liquid is cooled to a temperature lower than 30°C by heat exchanger 10, whereafter it is separated into sludge and supernatant liquid in sedimentation tank 5, and the supernatant liquid is treated with activated sludge in aeration tank 6. Subsequently, treated liquid is treated by way of sedimentation in final sedimentation tank, and superfluous sludge 2 is returned to mixing tank 3.
