Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the centering accuracy and the workability of an optical cable by turning an optical system for magnifying a terminal end to be worked and an image pickup element together with a working shaft so that the image may be monitored. CONSTITUTION:The terminal end of a fiber cable 1 for optical transmission, which is retained by a chuck 3 so that it may be worked, is so adjusted by means of a handle 10 that a light is guided from the other end to focus the core portion of the terminal end face of the cable 1 to be worked correctly upon the surface of an image pickup element 7. Then, the output of the element 7 is fed through slip ring 8 to a monitor device 9 thereby to display the image of the core. After that, a working spindle 4 is turned at a low speed so that the position of a sleeve member is adjusted by means of knobs 11 and 12 so as to eliminate the revolutions of the image on the device 9. Then, the outer circumference of the sleeve 2 is worked at a suitable cutting speed. Thus, it is possible to accomplish the centering operation in excellent workability and in high accuracy during the working operation of the terminal end of the optical cable.
