Abstract
PURPOSE: To readily make the optical fiber terminal member which has concentricity of high accuracy by correcting and adjusting the outside circumference of ferrule with the axial hole of a bushing as a center.
CONSTITUTION: The side of an optical fiber terminal member 7 not mounted with a bushing 1 is gripped and held in the work holder 6 mounted to the revolving spindle of a lathe 5. The holder 6 is provided with the mechanism which is capable of fine- adjusting the member 7 held thereby, mutually independently in the directions mutually orthogonal on the plane orthogonal to the axial center of the revolving spindle of the lathe 5. A cutting tool 8 is mounted on the tool rest 81 of the lathe 5 and is used in the same manner as in ordinary cutting. While the axial center 11 of the bushing 1 is being observed by a centering microscope 9, the revolving spindle of the lathe 5 is revolved at a low speed. Unless the axial center of the revolving spindle and the axial center of the axial hole 11 are in alignment, the axial hole 11 makes circular motion and therefore they are so adjusted by operating the holder 6 that the axial hole 11 is as if it stays still. Upon completion of the above centering work, the outside diameter of the member 7 is worked by the tool 8 to be finished to a required size. In this way, the axial hole 11 and the outside diameter of the ferrule 3 may be made correctly concentric.
