Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve accurate positioning by axially positioning a workpiece by means of a support head which supports a processing roller and making a specific exclusive positioning unit unnecessary and structure of a positioning unit simple. CONSTITUTION:A workpiece (w) placed on a temporary support 10 is supported by a main spindle center 4 and a centering ram 9 by forwarding a main spindle 3 and a centering ram 8. The workpiece (w) is supported by the two centers 4 and 9 at a position where a tip of a support head 15 is able to break into between both shoulder faces. In this state, the support head 15 is inserted between both shoulder faces and then a rotary axis 14 is rotated to make a pair of press roller 16 touch both shoulder face (s). By this, axial position of the workpiece (w) is indexed based on the support head 15. Positioning is completed by clamping one end of the workpiece (w) by a gripping claw 5 of an automatic chuck 6.
