Abstract
Beryllium or beryllium-alloy pipe cantilever with beryllium shank on which tip is soldered. Usually nude diamond is used as tip and shank for high quality cartridge. For common and cheap record player bonded stylus is used (tip is bonded/soldered on iron or titanium shank). Usually when stylus is mounted on cantilever, rather massive epoxy adhesive has been used - as a result increasing effective tip mass. In stead of using adhesive, tip should be soldered on shank. In case of titanium cantilever this soldering method is not easy. But in case of beryllium (-copper)-alloy it is easy and is also reducing cost by using small mass of diamond. In case of reproducing 4-channel records requiring reproducing 45kHz the effective mass of vibrating system is important. Comparison of weights with same dimensions as shown in Fig.3: Ratio set as 1 for nude diamond tip and shank.
Fe base shank with bonded stylus: 0.196mg, Ratio 2.06.
Titanium base shank with bonded stylus: 0.122mg, Ratio 1.28.
Nude diamond stylus: 0.095mg, Ratio 1.
Beryllium base shank with bonded stylus: 0.049mg, Ratio 0.52.
