Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce data errors by providing a circuit which detects the dropout of a data signal due to a defective on a magnetic recording medium from the input-side signal of a pulse shaping circuit and by controlling the frequency response characteristics of a synchronizing circuit by the output signal of said circuit. CONSTITUTION:A data signal read by a rotary head 2 from a medium 1 is inputted to an equivalent circuit 5 through a preamplifying circuit 3 and a gain control circuit 4 and a pulse shaping circuit 6 outputs a readout pulse, but if the data signal has a dropout, the pulse shaping circuit 6 outputs a readout pulse having a peak shift. An amplitude limiting circuit 9, on the other hand, places a synchronizing circuit 7 in high gain mode by its output signal only during the period of the dropout. Consequently, the following-up performance of the synchronizing circuit 7 is increased and a clock pulse which follows up the peak shift is supplied to a data demodulating circuit 8, thus obtaining a demodulated data signal free of a data error.
