The impeller is designed so that the square of the relative velocity of flow of the fluid handled at the outlet thereof equals or exceeds the sum of the square of the relative velocity of flow of the fluid to be handled at the inlet and the difference between the square of the circumferential velocity of the impeller at the outlet and the square of the circumferential velocity of the impeller at the inlet.
