1504361 Heat exchanger; waste gas steam generation SCHMIDT'SCHE HEISSDAMPF GmbH 14 March 1975 [15 March 1974] 10759/75 Headings F4A and F4S A heat exchanger contains substantially straight double-pipes 1 each comprising an outer tube 4 and an inner tube 5 connected at their ends to a headers 6 and 6<SP>1</SP> in such manner that the outer tubes 4 communicate with the interiors of the headers, whereas the inner tubes 5 pass through the headers. The outer tubes 4 have thickened walls 9 at their ends at their junctions with the headers. Cracked gases to be cooled (produced in pyrolytic cracking processes) are passed through the inner tubes 5 from a head 2 to a head 3. Cooling water is passed through the outer tubes 4 from the headers 6 and leaves as steam through headers 6<SP>1</SP>. The cooling water enters headers 6 through feed pipes (not shown) and the steam leaves through steam pipes (not shown) leaving each of the headers 6<SP>1</SP>. The headers 6 are arranged in a row and the headers 6<SP>1</SP> are arranged in a row. (Alternatively the headers could be pipe rings). The headers of each row are welded together, e.g. at 13, and thus form gas-tight pipe end plates. The cross-section of the headers may be oval (as shown), round or polygonal.
