Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain antiviral effects, etc., by processing a dandelion into a tea or an essence state. SOLUTION: A raw dandelion leaf is steamed with at 60-80 deg.C for about 10-20 minutes and dried at 30-50 deg.C to process the dandelion leaf into a dandelion tea leaf. When the tea leaf is made into a boiled beverage in the same way as that of a common tea, the tea leaf shows antiviral effects. The same effects can be obtained by decocting dandelion leaves for many hours, extracting an essence by an alcohol extraction method and taking the essence.

(Example 3) Table 3 shows the comparison between the dandelion extract of the present invention and acyclovir of Welcome, expressed in CPE. CPE (cell degeneration effect) usually means circular swelling of cells, and a predetermined amount of dandelion is used for each culture when 100 cells of HSV-1 (herpes simplex virus) are inoculated in Vero cells and cultured for 2 days. Three comparisons were made between the case where the extract was added, the case where a predetermined amount of acyclovir was added, and the case where only the culture solution was used.

The dandelion extract is a solid content obtained by boiling dandelion tea leaves with water for about 30 minutes to 1 hour and freeze-drying the boiled liquid as described later. It can be understood that acyclovir is more effective when compared with acyclovir of the same concentration, but that the dandelion extract has a far greater cost advantage.

As can be seen from this table, the higher the intake of dandelion extract, the higher the survival rate. (Example 5) Table 5 shows the effect of dandelion tea on the growth promotion of the mammary gland by dandelion tea using the tea prepared by the method described in Table 1 for 500 women aged 14 to 35 years. It shows size statistics. The dandelion tea was prepared by the method described in Example 2, and the amount per day was set at 500 g.
