2. Description of the Related Art Plants grow by absorbing root nutrients contained in soil from the roots by supporting the stems and leaves in the natural earth. Water, gravel, sand, rock wool, and the like have been conventionally used as an artificial cultivated place to replace the natural soil.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION In order to achieve the above-listed objects and other objects, the artificial soil 10 of the present invention has, as a main raw material, about 95% or more of the total volume thereof is fine wood chips or sawdust 12. A highly water-absorbent resin powder capable of absorbing and retaining water, for example, "Aquaric" under the trade name is mixed and formed into a desired shape with a starch paste or a viscous binder such as agar.

The molding can be carried out by filling a mold with these materials in order to obtain a block having a desired shape. As shown in FIG. 1, cotton, linen, non-woven fabric and other By interposing one or a plurality of woven cloths 14, the original mold can be maintained after being taken out from the mold.
