Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a card type external storage device used for storing application software in an information processing device such as a personal computer and a word processor. 2. Description of the Related Art A conventional device for loading a program from an external storage device for storing application software is, for example, a manual "B16 / EX, hardware technical data" of a personal computer B16 / EX manufactured by Hitachi, Ltd. ( September 1984. OA13-SE-0
06-01 ('84 -9)), a device using a flexible disk (floppy disk) or a hard disk as a storage medium is used as an external storage device. A hard disk is useful in that it has a large capacity, and a floppy disk is useful as a storage medium that is easy to use because it can be attached to and detached from the main body of the device. These external storage devices will be described below. Have such problems. FIG. 5 is a block diagram showing the configuration of an information processing apparatus according to the related art, and 11 is an RO.
M and 12 are RAMs, and the ROM 11 and the RAM 12 constitute a main storage device. Further, 10 is a microprocessor (MPU), 13 is a direct memory access controller (direct memory access controller-DMAC), 15
Is a display control circuit (CRTC), 16 is a cathode ray tube display device (CRT), 17 is a floppy disk / hard disk controller (FDC / HDC), 18 is a floppy disk device / hard disk device (FDD / HD).
D) and 100 are MPU address / data buses. In the figure, MPU10, ROM11, RAM12, DM
AC13, CRTC15, FDC / HDC17 are MPU
Interconnected via an address / data bus 100. In addition to the illustrated constituent elements, appropriate elements such as I / O can be connected. In so-called program loading for transferring the application software stored in the floppy disk or hard disk of the FDD / HDD 18 to the memory (RAM) of the main storage device, direct memory access (DMA) is performed by the DMAC 13 and the hard disk or floppy disk is used. RAM read data from disk
You need to write to 12. At this time, since each of the hard disk and floppy disk devices (HDD, FDD) 18 has mechanically movable parts, there is a problem that the access time is slow. In the above-mentioned prior art, no consideration is given to reducing the program loading time from the external storage device, and the system is not activated when the system is powered on or when the application software is switched. There was a problem of poor responsiveness. The present invention reduces the program loading time of application software from an external storage device and, at the same time, makes it possible to read data from an external storage device at high speed without modifying the application software. The purpose is to provide. Further, a card-type external storage device such as a ROM used as an external storage device or an IC card (semiconductor integrated storage circuit card) equipped with a non-volatile RAM, which is a unit for accessing a conventional floppy disk or hard disk. It is an object to provide a card type external storage device that can be accessed in units. In order to achieve the above object, the present invention has an external connector terminal for detachably connecting a card type external storage device to an information processing device main body from the outside. In a card-type external storage device using a semiconductor memory, the information processing device is capable of reading and writing information in block units having the same capacity as a sector, which is a unit in which the information processing device accesses a magnetic disk. Further, in order to allow the information processing device to access the card type external storage device, in an information processing device having an arithmetic processing unit and a main storage device built in the main body, the card type external storage device having an external connector terminal is externally connected. It has a connecting means for detachably connecting to the main body. For example, I equipped with a ROM or a non-volatile RAM as an external storage device.
A C card (semiconductor integrated storage circuit card) is used, and the software interface between the IC card and the RAM of the information processing apparatus main body is the same as the software interface of the floppy disk, the hard disk and the main body RAM. The purpose can be achieved. [Function] An external storage device is a ROM or a non-volatile R
By using an IC card equipped with AM,
The application software stored in the card is transferred to the RAM inside the main body by the control program stored in the ROM inside the main body. FIG. 3 is a diagram showing the architecture of an information processing system to which the present invention is applied. As shown in FIG. 3, an information processing apparatus such as a personal computer or a word processor has application software (AP) 1,
An operating system (OS) 2, a basic input / output system (BIOS) 3, and a hardware 4 are hierarchically configured, and the hardware is controlled by BI.
Since the OS executes, the application software AP may interface with the OS. Therefore, if the BIOS part that controls the conventional floppy disk or the like is replaced with the IC card control, the program loading time can be shortened without modifying the application software. Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to FIGS. FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing the configuration of an information processing apparatus according to the present invention, in which 10 is an MPU, 11 is a ROM, and 1
2 is RAM, 13 is DMAC, 14 is IC card, 15
Is a CRTC, 16 is a CRT, and 100 is an MPU address / data bus, showing the same parts as in FIG. Further, FIG. 2 is a conceptual diagram for explaining a usage form of the external storage device according to the present invention, in which 14 is an IC card, 16 is a CRT, 19 is an information processing device main body, and 20 is a keyboard. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the present invention uses an FDD / HDD 18 as an external storage device in the conventional example described in FIG. 5, and uses an FDC (floppy disk controller) and an HDC (hard disk controller) for respective control. ) 17 was required, but these were removed and IC card 1
4 is replaced. The information processing apparatus shown in FIG. 1 is one in which the present invention is applied to an information processing apparatus such as a personal computer and a word processor.
The application software stored in 12 or the like is read by an MPU (microprocessor unit) 10 and subjected to a predetermined process, and a CRT 16 is executed via a display control circuit 15.
Then, the operation result is displayed. At this time, as the DMAC 13, one capable of performing DMC transfer between the memory and the external storage device and between the memories is used. DMAC1
The former function of No. 3 is used for DMA transfer between a high-speed printer (not shown) and a memory. Here, how to use the external storage device using the IC card 14 and the connection between the IC card 14 and the main body, which are the main points of the present invention, will be described.
As shown in FIG. 2, the IC card 14 is pushed into the information processing apparatus main body 19 such as a personal computer, and is turned on, or
By operating the keyboard 20, the content is read and the read data is transferred to the RAM 12 in the main body 19.
The IC card 14 has a connector terminal at one end and is connected to the connector of the device 19. Next, IC card 14
A method of controlling the external storage device when using will be described by comparison with the prior art. FIG. 6 is a flow chart for explaining the operation when the floppy disk device is used as an external storage device. This will be described with reference to FIG. 5 above. After power-on, the application program or data from the FDD 18 is requested by the system. When a file transfer is requested, the OS2 will update the directory (Director).
Check y) to check if the file exists, and if not, perform error handling. If the corresponding file exists,
The OS2 calls the BIOS3 (Call). BIOS
3 is a track (T
rack) and sector (Sector) addresses are set in the FDC 17, and the memory start address (Memory Star ADDRESS) of the transfer destination RAM 12 is set.
The number of transfer words is set in the DMAC 13, and DMA transfer is activated. In the hardware 4 of FIG. 3, the DMAC 13 and the FDC 17 operate in cooperation with each other, and send a predetermined number of transfer words from the corresponding start address of the RAM 12 to the RAM 12 from the corresponding track and sector of the FDD 18. On the other hand, in order to realize the transfer from the IC card 14 in FIG. 1, the track address (TrackADDRESS) and the sector address (Sector) in the BIOS processing sequence shown in FIG.
It is necessary to add a routine for translating (ADDRESS) or the like into the memory address on the corresponding IC card 14 as shown in FIG. FIG. 4 shows the structure of Track (track) and Sector (sector) in the FDD / HDD of FIG.
2 is a diagram showing a correspondence between a memory address space (b) on the IC card of FIG. 1. FIG. In FIG. 4, a storage medium of N tracks and m sectors is assumed, and one sector is 256 bytes (Byte). Therefore, when transferring data for one sector from one sector to two sectors, this parameter is set to 0 in the memory address space on the IC card 14.
Translate from address 0000 to 512 bytes, that is, to address 01FF. According to the present invention, the BIOS3
However, by replacing the IC card 14 with the FDD and HDD 18 without changing the application software 1 at all, the response speed of program loading at system startup or application software switching can be significantly increased. Can be improved. Since the degree of improvement depends on the seek amount of the head on the FDD or HDD and the data storage method, it cannot be unambiguously stated, but at least it can be improved by 3 to 4 digits. When transferring from the IC card 14, the inter-memory transfer function of the functions of the DMAC 13 is used. As described above, according to the present invention,
For the loading of programs and data at system startup and application software switching without making any changes to the enormous number of application software that has been developed for information processing devices such as personal computers and word processors. Since the time required can be shortened and the speed can be increased, the usability for the user can be improved. Further, since the card type external storage device can read and write information by the information processing device in block units having the same capacity as a sector which is a unit for the information processing device to access the magnetic disk, the card type external storage device can be easily read and written. The device can be used as a substitute for a conventional floppy disk or hard disk.
