理装置として淡水魚や海水魚の飼育水槽等に利用されて
いる。紫外線灯もしくはオゾンによる浄化処理装置は紫
外線灯については石英ガラス製の紫外線灯を使用し水中
に紫外線を照射し水中の酸素よりオゾンを生成し、水中
でのオゾンの分解により生ずる発生期酸素の強い酸化力
(塩素の約7倍)により有機質の汚れや有機塩素化合物
などの物質を分解する作用を活用した浄化手段である。
しかしオゾンの分解による発生期酸素の溶解性は高いが
オゾン自体は水に溶解されにくく又オゾン効果の持続性
がない等の難点及びオゾン濃度が高くなると、人体に有
害であり人体に安全な濃度は0.1ppm程度である等
の問題がある。
