Claims (15)
- 1.前立腺疾患を治療するために男性患者の開口に挿入するようになったカテー テルにおいて、前記カテーテルは、マイクロ波の場の強さの所定分布で、患者の 前立腺を照射するためのマイクロ波アンテナ装置を有する装置を備え、これによ って前記患者の組織を、マイクロ波パワーの直接の関数として変化し、かつ、マ イクロ波アンテナ装置までのその組織の距離の逆関数として変化する傾向がある 温度まで加熱し、そして、採用されるべき最大マイクロ波パワーを、マイクロ波 アンテナ装置に最も近い、患者の加熱された租織の温度が、所定の最大安全温度 を越えないような量に制限されており、前記カテーテルは、更に、膨張可能なバ ルーンを備え、該バルーンは、(1)カテーテルを前記開口に挿入している間し ぼんだ状態になっており、(2)前記カテーテルが完全に挿入されたときに、前 記患者の前立腺と協働する関係の位置で前記カテーテルに設置され(3)前記カ テーテルが完全に挿入されたときに、前立腺組織と、膨らませたバルーンと前記 前立腺組織との間に位置する非前立腺組織との両方に圧迫圧力を加えるために膨 らませるようになっており、これによって前記患者の加熱された組織と前記マイ クロ波アンテナ装置との最小距離が大きくなり、これにより、前記所定の最大安 全温度を越えることなく最大マイクロ波パワーを増すことができ、そして、前記 マイクロ波アンテナ装置により近位の加熱された組織と、前記1つのマイクロ波 アンテナ装置からより遠位の加熱された組織との間の温度差を減少させる、カテ ーテル。
- 2.前記開口が前記患者の尿道であり、前記バルーンは、膨らんだときに、周囲 の前立線組織に実質的に等しい圧迫圧力を加えるために、前記カテーテルの円周 全体に延びる円周方向に対称なトロイドを形成し、これによって前記前立腺の内 径を効果的に大きくし、前記マイクロ波アンテナ装置は、角度的に実質的に均一 なマイクロ波の場の強度の分布を前記前立腺組織にあてるために、実質的に前記 カテーテルの中心軸に設置されている、 請求の範囲1に記載したカテーテル。
- 3.前記カテーテルは、ルーメンと、前期カテーテルの端に設けられて、該カテ ーテルが完全に挿入されたときに患者の膀胱と協働する関係になる第2の膨張可 能なバルーンを更に備え、前記第2のバルーンは膨らんだとき前記カテーテルを 前記勝胱に固定し、患者の体外に前記ルーメンを通って尿が運ばれるようにする 、 請求の範囲2に記載したカテーテル。
- 4.前記カテーテルは、マイクロ波パワーによって発生した熱を取除くための冷 却剤を循環させるための第2のルーメンを有する装置を、更に、備え、これによ って、マイクロ波アンテナ装置に最も近い、患者の加熱される組織に対する前記 最大安全温度を越えることがないと同時に、前記マイクロ波アンテナ装置からよ り遠位の前立腺組織をより高い温度まで加熱するように、最大マイクロ波パワー を増すことができる、 請求の範囲3に記載したカテーテル。
- 5.前記開口が前記患者の直腸であり、前記マイクロ波アンテナ装置を有する前 記装置は、前記患者の前立腺と反対方向で前記患者の組織を加熱するより多く、 前記患者の前立腺ので前記患者の組織を優先的に加熱するマイクロ波の場の強度 の分布を提供するための分配装置を備えている、 請求の範囲1に記載したカテーテル。
- 6.前記マイクロ波アンテナ手段は、前記カテーテルが前記患者の直腸に完全に 挿入されたとき、前記患者の前立腺に向けて配向されるようになった方向に、前 記カテーテルの軸線から片寄せられている、請求の範囲5に記載したカテーテル 。
- 7.前記マイクロ波アンテナ装置は、前記カテーテルが前記患者の直腸に完全に 挿入されたとき、マイクロ波の場の強度の前記分布を提供するように配向される ようになった反射板を有している、 請求の範囲5に記載したカテーテル。
- 8.前記マイクロ波アンテナ装置は、前記カテーテルが前記患者の直腸に完全に 挿入されたとき、マイクロ波の場の強度の前記分布を提供するようになった整相 列を有している、 請求の範囲5に記載したカテーテル。
- 9.前記バルーンは、完全に挿入され、膨らんだときに、肥大した前立腺によっ て生じた患者の直腸のふくらみに実質的に一致するように形成されている、請求 の範囲5に記載したカテーテル。
- 10.前記カテーテルは、マイクロ波パワーによって発生した熱を取除くための 冷却剤を循環させるための第2のルーメンを有する装置を更に、備え、これによ って、マイクロ波アンテナ装置に最も近い、患者の加熱される組織に対する前記 最大安全温度を越えることがないと同時に、前記マイクロ波アンテナ装置からよ り遠い前立腺組織をより高い温度まで加熱するように、最大マイクロ波パワーを 増すことができる、 請求の範囲5に記載したカテーテル。
- 11.前記バルーンをX線不透過性液体で膨らませ、これにより、前記カテーテ ルを前記患者の開口に完全に挿入したとき、前記患者の前立腺に対する前記バル ーンの位置がモニターできる、 請求の範囲1に記載したカテーテル。
- 12.患者の前立腺近傍で患者の開口を囲う非前立腺組織に圧迫圧力を加え、こ れにより前立腺を圧縮し、 前記圧力が加えられている間、患者のいかなる非前立腺組織をも最大安全温度よ り高く加熱することなく、前記開口からより遠位の前立腺組織を第1の治療温度 まで加熱するのに十分なマイクロ波パワーで前記前立腺を照射する、患者の前立 腺疾患を治療するための方法。
- 13.圧迫圧力を加える工程が、患者の尿道を囲う非前立腺組織に圧迫圧力を加 え、尿道の直径を大きくすることを備え、 前記前立腺を照射する工程が、尿道から前記前立腺を照射する工程を有する、請 求の範囲12に記載した方法。
- 14.前記圧力を前記患者の尿道を囲う前記組織に加えて、前記患者の尿道から マイクロ波パワーで前記前立腺を照射している間、前記患者の尿道の外側位置と 前記前立腺組織との間に位置する第2の非前立腺組織を通して、前記外側位置か らマイクロ波パワーで前記患者の前立腺を照射し、前記追加のマイクロ波パワー は、第2の非前立腺組織を最大安全温度より高く加熱することなく、前記尿道か らより遠位でありかつ前記患者の尿道と前記第2の非前立腺組織との間に位置す る前立腺組織を第2の治療温度まで加熱するのに十分なパワーである、請求の範 囲13に記載した方法。
- 15.患者の尿道を囲む前記組織に前記圧力を加えている間、患者の前立腺の近 傍で患者の直腸の組織に追加の圧迫圧力を加え、前記前立腺を前記患者の尿道か らマイクロ波パワーで照射している間、前記患者の直腸の近位の非前立腺組織を 最大安全温度より高く加熱することなく、前記尿道からより遠位であり、かつ、 前記患者の尿道と直腸との間に位置する前立腺組織を、前記第1の治療温度より 高い第2の治療温度まで加熱するのに十分なマイクロ波パワーで患者の面腸から 照射する、請求の範囲13に記載した方法。
