Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明は、ウッド、アイアンおよびパターなどのゴルフ
クラブの打球部分に用いられるゴルフクラブ用のヘッド
に関するものである。
〔従来の技術〕
従来、ゴルフクラブ用のヘッドは、主に炭素鋼やステン
レス鋼などの鉄合金またはパーシモンにより形成されて
おり、さらに近年では、銅合金、特にベリリウム銅から
なるヘッドも製造されるようになってきた。
上記材料がゴルフクラブ用のヘッドに用いられている理
由としては、前者の鉄合金やパーシモンは、いずれも適
度な比重と強度とを有し、しかもコスト的にも安価に製
造できるからであり、後者のベリリウム銅は外観上の美
しさと共に、耐摩耗性、耐蝕性に優れ、強靱で弾性に富
むからである。
〔発明が解決しようとする課題〕
しかしながら、前者の材料は後者と比較した場合、反発
力の点における材料特性が劣り、飛距離が短く、また、
外観上の美しさという点においても見劣りすることがい
なめないため、ゴルフクラブ用のヘッドとしては物足り
なさがあった。他方、後者は有毒金属のベリリウムを含
むため、衛生上好ましくないという問題点があり、国内
では現在生産されておらず、粗悪品が僅かに輸入されて
いるのみであった。
そこで本発明者は前記事情に基づき、毒性の全くない銅
合金として知られている銅−チタン合金に着目し、その
材料特性を改良するために研究実験を重ねてきた結果、
炭素鋼やステンレス鋼から成形した製品より美麗な外観
を呈し、またベリリウム銅のものと同等の機械的性質を
備え、しかも衛生上も全く問題のないゴルフクラブ用の
ヘッドを開発したものである。
〔課題を解決するための手段〕
本発明は、銅に4.5〜6.0％のチタンと0.05〜0.15％のボ
ロンを含有し、さらにクロム、鉄、ニオブ、バナジウム
のうち１種類以上の元素を合計0.5〜1.5％の範囲内で添
加した銅合金によりゴルフクラブ用ヘッドを形成するも
のである。
〔作用〕
本発明によるゴルフクラブ用ヘッドを形成する銅−チタ
ン合金は、銅に4.5〜6.0％のチタンと0.05〜0.15％のボ
ロンを加えて最大の時効硬化と最適の美観とを得るよう
にし、さらにクロム、鉄、ニオブ、バナジウムのうち１
種類以上の元素を合計0.5〜1.5％の範囲内で添加するこ
とによって強靱性を高めている。
〔実施例〕
以下本発明によるゴルフクラブ用ヘッドの実施例につい
て説明する。本発明ヘッドは、形状的には従来品と同様
であるが、第１表に示す各化学組成の銅合金で形成した
ことを特徴としている。
本発明ヘッドの製造方法について簡単に述べると、まず
高周波誘導溶解炉等を用いた真空溶解鋳造法により、第
１表に示す化学組成の合金の溶解と精密鋳造とを、溶湯
の酸化やガス吸収を避けるため真空中で行ない、それか
ら溶体化処理および常温での時効処理を施すものであ
る。こうして製造した各実施例のヘッドにシャフトをつ
けてゴルフクラブに組み立て、市販のゴルフクラブと共
にロボットによるゴルフボールの飛距離テストを行なっ
たところ、第２表に示す成績を得た。
第２表の実験結果で明らかなように、本発明ヘッドを備
えたゴルフクラブは、第２表中上三段の従来市販品に比
して、その飛距離が大きく伸びている。又、本発明ヘッ
ドは、いずれの実施例でもその素地が純銅に似た赤色を
呈しており、製品化に際して施される塗膜の色調と相ま
って従来市販品にはない美しさを醸し出す。
〔発明の効果〕
本発明によるゴルフクラブ用ヘッドは、上記の如く、銅
にチタンとボロンを加え、さらに少量のクロム、鉄、ニ
オブ、バナジウムを単独で又は複合して添加した合金に
より形成したものであるから、有毒なベリリウムを含ま
ず衛生的であることは勿論、良質のベリリウム銅製ヘッ
ドに匹敵する良好な美観と機械的性質とを兼ね備えてお
り、従って本発明ヘッドを用いたゴルフクラブは、従来
市販品に比して打球の飛距離が著しく伸び、スコアメイ
クに大きく寄与し得る。

  1. 【請求項１】銅に4.5〜6.0％のチタンと0.05〜0.15％の
    ボロンを含有し、さらにクロム、鉄、ニオブ、バナジウ
    ムのうち１種類以上の元素を合計0.5〜1.5％の範囲内で
    添加した銅合金によって形成したことを特徴とするゴル
    フクラブ用ヘッド
