Since the first folding portion 4A is formed in a flat tongue shape and the width of the gusset portion S is wide, it cannot fit within the resin cover 5 as it is, for example, the width of the inflator 3 is not uniform. The upper and lower arc-shaped portions A 1 and A 2 protruding to both sides than the width of the inflator 3 are pushed further inward so as to overlap the folding line of the gusset portion S, and
The folded portion 4A is aligned with the second folded portion 4B and folded to the width of the inflator 3 (procedures b and c).

In this first folding portion 4A, the width of the gusset portion S and the upper and lower arc-shaped portions A 1 and A 2 folded inward is wide, and the arc-shaped folding point P is directed inward. Therefore, in order to further improve the lateral deployability, each arcuate folding point P is pulled outward within the folding width La corresponding to the width of the inflator 3, and each arcuate folding point P is moved outside. The width of the inward folding is narrowed from Lb to Lc (procedure d).

When the bag 4 is inflated and deployed, the second folding portion 4B comes into contact with the inclined guide surface 5b reinforced by the guide plate 6 as described above, so that the bag 4 as a whole is inflated. Since the directivity is given along the inclination of the vehicle, the first folding portion 4A does not catch the guide surface 5b or the edge of the opening 5c at all, and the opening 2a of the instrument panel 2 from the opening 2a rearward in the vehicle compartment. In particular, the deployment door has a double door structure in which the first door and the second door open vertically in two directions, and one of the openings is formed in the instrument panel by integrally molding it with the instrument panel. It is possible to reduce the actual area of the door and further improve the assembling property and the matching property of the deployment door.

On the other hand, in the bag, both the first folding portion and the second folding portion are once folded so that the side wall portions are folded inward so that they can be accommodated in the resin cover, and then each is folded in a bellows shape on the inflator. Therefore, when the bag is inflated and unfolded, the folded portions of the first folding portion and the second folding portion are not caught, and the folding is gradually unraveled from the side closer to the inflator, so that the bag can be further deployed. It can be done smoothly.
