(57)【要約】 【構成】 電気融着継手10の接合面近傍には、その抵
抗値が温度に依存して変化する抵抗線18が設けられ
る。端子20に通電装置22を接続して、抵抗線18に
通電すると、抵抗線18が加熱され、それに伴って抵抗
線18の抵抗値が大きくなる。そして、通電中に、抵抗
線18の抵抗値が接合面の溶融が完了するときの抵抗値
に達すると、抵抗線18への通電を停止する。 【効果】 安価にして適正に融着できる。

【発明の詳細な説明】

【産業上の利用分野】この発明は電気融着継手の融着方
法に関し、特にたとえば継手本体に設けられた発熱体に
通電して被接合部材を融着接合する、電気融着継手の融
着方法に関する。

【従来の技術】電気融着継手の典型的な一例が図3に示
され、この電気融着継手1は、ポリエチレンやポリブテ
ン等の合成樹脂からなる略中空円筒状の本体2を含み、
本体2に埋め込まれた電熱線3の両端部には、本体2か
ら突出して通電端子4が形成されている。融着接合時に
は、継手1の受口5に接続すべき図示しないパイプを挿
入し、図示しない通電装置を通電端子4に接続する。そ
して、通電装置に記憶された継手毎の通電条件(通電時
間等)から適当な通電条件をスイッチ等によって選択
し、その通電条件に従って、電熱線3に通電する。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】従来の電気融着継手の
融着方法では、作業者がスイッチ等によって通電条件を
選択するため、誤って選択する可能性があり、そのよう
な場合には、適正な融着ができないという問題点があっ
た。そこで、継手毎に固有の抵抗値を設定してその抵抗
値を認識し、自動的に通電時間を設定するようにした融
着方法,継手に認識用抵抗を埋め込み、それを読み取る
ことによって通電時間を設定するようにした融着方法,
継手のインジケータとなる孔に設けられたリミットスイ
ッチが溶融樹脂によって押されたとき通電を停止するよ
うにした融着方法,あるいは継手の孔に設けられた熱電
対が所定の温度を検知すると通電を停止するようにした
融着方法等が知られている。
【0004】しかし、これらの融着方法においては、コ
スト面あるいは精度面で問題があった。それゆえに、こ
の発明の主たる目的は、安価にして適正に融着できる電
気融着継手の融着方法を提供することである。

【課題を解決するための手段】この発明は、その抵抗値
が温度に依存して変化する発熱体を含む電気融着継手で
被接合部材を融着する方法において、通電中に発熱体の
抵抗値が所定の値になったとき通電を停止するようにし
たことを特徴とする、電気融着継手の融着方法である。

【作用】発熱体に通電して発熱体を加熱すると、発熱体
の抵抗値Rが温度上昇に伴って大きくなる。接合面の溶
融が完了するときの発熱体の抵抗値R1 をたとえば通電
装置内のメモリに予め記憶しておき、発熱体の実際の抵
抗値Rをたとえば通電装置内の抵抗値検知回路で通電中
に検知し、R=R1 となったときに通電を停止する。

【発明の効果】この発明によれば、継手に圧力センサや
熱電対等の特別な部品を設ける必要がなく、安価にして
適正に融着できる。この発明の上述の目的,その他の目
的,特徴および利点は、図面を参照して行う以下の実施

【実施例】この発明が適用され得る電気融着継手の一例
が図1に示され、この電気融着継手10は、たとえばポ
リエチレン等の合成樹脂からなる略中空円筒状の本体1
2を含む。本体12の中空部は、後述するパイプ14を
受け入れる受口16となり、受口16の内表面近傍には
その抵抗値が温度に依存して変化する発熱体としての抵
抗線18が埋め込まれる。抵抗線18の両端部には、本
体12から突出して設けられた端子20が接続される。
【0009】図2を参照して、電気融着継手10に通電
するための通電装置22は、ケーシング24を含む。ケ
ーシング24の内部には、図示しないマイクロコンピュ
ータ等を有する通電制御回路26,通電制御回路26に
接続される通電回路28および抵抗値検知回路30等が
収納され、通電回路28および抵抗値検知回路30がケ
ーシング24に設けられた端子32に接続される。
【0010】図1に戻って、接合時には、まず、電気融
着継手10の左右の受口16にたとえばポリエチレン等
の合成樹脂からなるパイプ14を挿入し、通電装置22
の端子32から延びる線34を電気融着継手10の端子
20に接続する。そして、図2に示す通電装置22の電
源を投入する。すると、通電装置22では、まず、抵抗
値検知回路30が抵抗線18の初期抵抗値R0 を検知
し、その値R0 を通電制御回路26に与える。通電制御
回路26は、接合面の溶融が完了するときの温度から初
期温度を引いた抵抗線18の必要上昇温度と温度係数と
から抵抗値の変化率aを算出し、この変化率aを初期抵
抗値R0 に乗じた値すなわち接合面の溶融が完了すると
きの抵抗値R1 (=a×R0 )をメモリに記憶する。通
電回路28は、通電に必要な所定の電力を発生する。
【0011】通電回路28によって抵抗線18に通電す
ると、抵抗線18の温度が上昇し、それに伴って抵抗線
18の抵抗値Rが大きくなる。抵抗値検知回路30は、
抵抗線18の抵抗値Rを随時検知し、この値Rを通電制
御回路26へ与え、通電制御回路26は、抵抗値Rとメ
モリに記憶された値R1 とを比較し、R=R1 となった
ときに通電を停止する。
【0012】この実施例によれば、圧力センサや熱電対
等の特別な部品を設ける必要がないので、継手の製造コ
ストを低減できる。また、変化率aを変更することによ
って通電時間や電圧などの供給電力相関因子を容易に変
更できるので、種類の異なる継手や口径の異なる継手等
にも容易に対応することができる。
【0013】なお、この実施例では、通電制御回路26
において、抵抗線18の初期抵抗値R0 に変化率aを乗
じ、その値R1 (=a×R0 )をメモリに記憶するよう
にしているが、通電制御回路26における演算を省略し
て、実験によって値R1 を求め、それをそのままメモリ
に記憶するようにしてもよい。また、この実施例では、
発熱体として抵抗線18を用いるようにしているが、こ
れに代えて、円筒状や板状の発熱体等を用いるようにし
てもよい。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項1】その抵抗値が温度に依存して変化する発熱
    体を含む電気融着継手で被接合部材を融着する方法にお
    いて、 通電中に前記発熱体の抵抗値が所定の値になったとき通
    電を停止するようにしたことを特徴とする、電気融着継
    手の融着方法。
