Further, the emergency storage units in each of the storage shelf units are arranged in a horizontal line at appropriate distances apart, and the conveying means arranged along the front side of each emergency storage unit is provided independently for each emergency storage unit. By forming parallel conveyance paths over appropriate sections, the file folders on the conveyance means will overlap even when an emergency command is given to take out the file folders almost simultaneously from each of a plurality of storage shelf units. The time required for taking out can be shortened. Furthermore, if the file folders can be transferred in an upright state for each transfer path on the transfer means, the width dimension in a direction substantially perpendicular to the transfer direction by the transfer means can be shortened, resulting in a compact size.
