PURPOSE:To easily form an ornamental film having multicolored film by forming plural films dissimilar in color tone on the surface of an ornament, etc., and simultaneously carrying out the etching and diffusion of the films by means of laser light irradiation. CONSTITUTION:An ornament, such as a watchcase 1 made of stainless steel, is set in an ion plating apparatus, and, after the inside of this apparatus is evacuated, N2 gas is introduced and Ti is evaporated by means of an electron gun evaporation source and then a voltage is impressed on an ionization electrode to ionize Ti vapor. The ionized Ti is allowed to react with N2 to form a gold-colored TiN film 2. Subsequently, a gray TiC film 3 is formed by changing the atmosphere from N2 gas to C2H2 gas. Part of these films are removed by different depths while changing the position, and also, a diffusion layer 4 of different color tone where the TiN 2 is diffused into part of the base material 1 made of stainless steel and a diffusion layer 5 of another color tone where the TiC layer 3 is diffused into the TiN layer 2 are formed, by which the watchcase on which patterns of multicolor tone are formed can be obtained.

により、精度良く一定の深さで被膜を除去できることを
利用し、エツチング深さを被膜の境界層付近の深さにす
ることにより、境界層付近の上層被膜の一部を下層また
は基体表面へ拡散させて、上層と下層または基体との混
合された色を出現させて、他の手段では得られなかった
多色被膜を容易に得るものである。境界層より更に深く
エツチングすれば、前記混合層は出現せず下層が現れる
