Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent differences of optical characteristics from appearing on the liquid crystal display device owing to differences of characteristics of a driving IC. CONSTITUTION:A display by a liquid crystal display substrate 1 have line defects 31-35 which can be viewed owing to a difference in contrast at the borders of display areas 21-26 put in partial charge of horizontal-side driving ICs 11-16 because of differences of characteristics among the ICs 11-16. For prevention against said defects, a horizontal driving circuit substrate 2 where a driving IC which is not sealed by molding is mounted is connected to the liquid crystal display substrate 1 and display characteristics are optically inspected. Then the resistance parts in the ICs 11-16 are trimmed with laser light according to the inspection result and an output voltage is adjusted. If an undesirable result is obtained finally by the optical inspection of the display characteristics, the ICs 11-16 are sealed by molding.

[Prior Art] Conventionally, a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device involves connecting a horizontal signal driving substrate and a vertical signal driving substrate on which ICs with uniform characteristics are mounted on a liquid crystal display substrate, or After mounting the signal drive IC, connecting the LCD display board and the IC, and sealing the IC with a mold,
It is customary to optically inspect a liquid crystal display device to determine whether it is good or bad.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] In the conventional method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device described above, a plurality of signal driving ICs of the same type are used in parallel on a signal driving substrate, etc., so that the characteristics within the chip are uniform. It is easy to obtain ICs with similar characteristics, but it is difficult to obtain ICs with many chips that have the same characteristics. As a result, when ICs with uneven characteristics are used, the optical characteristics of the liquid crystal display device will differ from those of the adjacent IC. This has the disadvantage that a difference in contrast appears at the boundary with the display area that is in charge of the display area, causing problems.

[Means for Solving the Problems] A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes a step of connecting a signal driving substrate to a liquid crystal display substrate, a step of inspecting display characteristics of the liquid crystal display device, and a step of inspecting the display characteristics. According to the result, the resistance of the IC on the signal driving substrate is trimmed with a laser beam, and the output voltage of the IC is corrected.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Next, the present invention will be explained with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is an embodiment of the present invention, and is a diagram showing the display state before the characteristics of the IC are trimmed.
Due to the difference in the characteristics of the ICs 11-16, visible line defects 31-35 occur due to contrast differences at the boundaries of the display areas 21-26 handled by the ICs 11-16. FIG. 2 is a diagram showing the display state after the characteristics of the IC have been trimmed.
Since there is no difference in characteristics between 11 and 16, IC11 to 16
The contrast difference disappears at the boundaries between the display areas 21 to 26 which are in charge of the display areas 21 to 26, resulting in invisible line defects 41 to 45.

Next, one embodiment of the present invention will be described. First, drive ICs 11 to 16 that are not molded.
The horizontal drive circuit board 2 mounted with the horizontal drive circuit board 2 is connected to the liquid crystal display board 1, and the display characteristics are optically inspected. Next, based on this test result, the resistors in the ICs 11 to 16 are trimmed using a laser beam, and the output voltages of the ICs 11 to 16 are adjusted. Next, the display characteristics are optically inspected and the trimming results are confirmed. Next, the ICs 11 to 16 are molded and sealed.

As explained above, the present invention completely corrects the deterioration in display characteristics due to the difference in output voltage of the signal driving IC by trimming the signal driving IC based on the results of a liquid crystal characteristic test. There is an effect that can be done. Furthermore, it goes without saying that even if there is no difference in the characteristics of the signal driving ICs but there is a difference in the characteristics of the liquid crystal display substrate itself, the display characteristics can be corrected by the above method.
