Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a pet food for dogs and cats, excellent in palatability and edible by animals for pets such as the dogs and cats without cloying. CONSTITUTION:A pet food for dogs and cats is obtained by adding peptides, prepared by enzymically hydrolyzing animal proteins and containing >=80 wt.% thereof constructed from peptides composed of 3 to 20 amino acids and a butter to other ingredients. The aforementioned peptides may also be oligopeptides. Thereby, the pet food for dogs and cats, remarkably improved in palatability as compared with that of conventional products and edible by animals without cloying is provided.

[Prior Art and Problems to be Solved] Pet foods include dry food, semi-moist food, and canned wet food. Dry food is made by adding meat meal, chicken meal, soybean oil lees, brewer's yeast, etc. to grain flour such as corn or wheat flour, which is then pressurized, kneaded, and extruded using an extruder. In order to improve palatability, oils and fats, etc. are added to dry food. Obtained by coating with various extracts, flavors, etc. For semi-moist food, moisturizer,
There are some differences in the manufacturing method, as anti-mold agents are added.
The basic raw material composition is the same as for dry food.

Although these dry foods and semi-moist foods are easy to handle for pet owners, they have drawbacks such as being less palatable than wet foods or getting tired of eating them quickly. Therefore, in order to improve the palatability of dry foods and semi-moist foods, efforts have been made to add butter or its oil-soluble or water-soluble fractions (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 188350/1983), but the effects are still not satisfactory. It's not something you should do.

[Means for Solving the Problems] The present inventors have discovered that by adding peptides and butter to pet food, the palatability for pet animals is significantly improved, and the animals can eat it without getting bored. Completed the invention. That is, the present invention consists of a pet food for dogs and cats, which is made by adding butter and a peptide obtained by enzymatically decomposing animal protein, of which 80% by weight is a peptide consisting of 3 to 20 amino acids.

[0006] Animal proteins for obtaining the peptides used in the present invention include animal meat, poultry meat, fish and shellfish meat, and animal meat and poultry meat are preferred. This animal protein is decomposed into a peptide using a proteolytic enzyme such as protease. It is desirable that 80% by weight or more of this peptide is composed of a peptide consisting of 3 to 20 amino acids.

The pet food of the present invention can be obtained, for example, by coating the surface of a pet food produced by a conventional method with the peptide and butter. It can also be obtained by kneading it into feed ingredients in the final manufacturing process. For semi-moist food, the latter method is suitable. The above amount of peptide added varies depending on the type of pet animal, feed material type, feed form, and pet food type (dry, semi-moist), but when mixed with feed material, it is 3 to 10% by weight, or When coating the surface of dry food or semi-moist food produced by a conventional method, the amount is preferably 1 to 7% by weight.

[0009] The amount of butter added also varies depending on various factors, as with peptides, but when mixed with feed ingredients, it is 0.5 to 5% by weight, and when added to dry food or semi-moist food produced by conventional methods, it is 0.5 to 5% by weight. When coating the surface, the amount is preferably 0.1 to 10% by weight. If the amount of both peptide and butter added is less than the above-mentioned amount, the effect of improving palatability cannot be sufficiently obtained, and even if more amount is added, no increase in the effect can be expected.
