【発明の詳細な説明】
リチウム電池を不活性化する装置
技術分野
本発明は、電池の放電回路に関し、さらに詳しくはリチウム電池を放電させる回
路に関する。
背景技術
携幇用無線装置の電源として電池が広く使用されている。
しかし、リチウム電池の出現と共に、新しい問題が生じてきた。リチウムを水に
さらすと燃焼し、場合によっては、爆発することもあり得るので、リチウム電池
を安全に処分できる方法が必要である。通常、リチウム電池が装置に電力を供給
できなくなった時点で、電池内には若干の潜在的な起電力が残存している。従っ
て、リチウム電池を処分する前に、電池内に残留しているリチウムを充分に消費
させるための方法が必要となる。
発明の開示
従って、本発明の目的は、リチウム電池内のリチウムを消費させてしまうことに
ある。
手短に言って、本発明によれば、リチウム電池に放電回路とその放電回路を電池
に結合させるように動作するスイッチを設けておき、リチウムを予め消費させる
ことにより電池を安全に処分できる。

第1図は、本発明によるリチウム電池の電気的接続図である。
第2図は、第1図に示される機械的スイッチの側面図である。
発明を実施するための最良の形態
第1図は、抵抗器18とスイッチ22を含む放電手段に接続している複数のリチ
ウム・セル12.14および16がら成るリチウム電池10を示す。スイッチ2
2を閉じると、リチウム電池10からの電流11抵抗器18を経て接地される。
この放電プロセスの所要時間は、抵抗器18の抵抗値に応じて、数分または数時
間となる。とにかく、電池が実質的に完全に放電してしまうと、リチウムは、も
はや水に触れても、燃焼または爆発のように激しく反応しない。従って、リチウ
ム電池を、火災または爆発の心配なしに、処分できる。
オプションとして、電圧センサ24をリチウム電池1oと主列に接続できる。こ
の場合、所定の電圧レベルを検知すると、電圧センサ24から出る制御ライン2
6により、スイッチ22は自動的かつ電気的に閉じる。また、さらに安全性を高
めるために、一旦スイッチ22が閉じた場合、電池が完全に放電するように、ス
イッチ22が再度開放状態に復帰しないよう (例えば、−回だけ動作するスイ
ッチ[one−timeswitchJの使用)にすることができる。
第2図は、第1図に於けるスイッチ22の機械的な実施例を示す。゛電池10を
収納する容器32には、電池の陽極コンタクト36と陰極コンタクト38との間
に開口部34を設ける。周知のように、抵抗器18をスイッチ22の前部または
後部に設け、抵抗器18とスイッチ22の直列結合回路を電池10と並列に接続
する。第2図に於て、抵抗器18は、電池容器32内の陰極コンタクト38の部
分に取付けである。
機械的スイッチ22”の第一の端部44が電池の陰極コンタクト38に接続し、
その第二の端部42は開口部34の内部に浮いている状態に保持されている。こ
のスイッチは、開口部34を通してスイッチの第二の端部42を内側に押し込め
得るような物体(例えば、開口部34を通して突き出せるほど充分に細くて長い
ペンあるいはベーパ・クリップ)を利用して、手で動作させる。結果として、第
一の端部44のばねの伸張により、第二の端部42が上向きとなり、電池の陽極
コンタクト36と永続的に(もし望むならば)接触する。
この機械的スイッチによる実施例は、本発明のスイッチを手で操作する場合の一
例にすぎない。もちろん、さらに変形と改良を行なうことができる。

Claims (5)
- 1.少なくとも一個のリチウム・セル;前記の少なくとも一個のリチウム・セル を放電させる放電手段; リチウム電池を安全に処分するためリチウムを不活性化できるように、前記放電 手段を前記の少なくとも一個のリチウム・セルに結合させるように動作するスイ ッチ手段;前記リチウム電池の所定の電圧レベルを検知する手段;および 前記電池を放電させるため、前記所定の電圧レベルの検知に伴い、前記スイッチ 手段を作動させる手段;によって構成されるリチウム電池。
- 2.前記スイッチ手段が手で作動させるスイッチ手段であることを特徴とする請 求項1記載の電池。
- 3.使用済みリチウム電源を安全に処分するため使用する安全装置に於て: 少なくとも一個のリチウム・セルを有する電池;前記の少なくとも一個のリチウ ム・セルを放電させるための放電手段; 前記の少なくとも一個のセルの放電を実質的に完了させるため、前記放電手段を 前記の少なくとも一個のリチウム・セルに選択的に結合させる手段;および前記 電池、前記放電手段および前記選択的結合手段を収容する電池容器; によって構成される安全装置。
- 4.前記選択的結合手段が前記放電手段を作動させるため一回だけ操作可能なス イッチであることを特徴とする請求項3記載の安全装置。
- 5.リチウム電池に放電手段を結合する工程;前記リチウム電池を実質的に起電 力ゼロとなるように放電させる工程; 前記リチウム電池の所定の電圧レベルを検知する工程;および 前記電池を放電させるため、前記所定の電圧レベルの検知に伴い、前記放電手段 にスイッチを入れる工程;によって構成されるリチウム電池の処分方法。
