As shown in FIG. 1, such a photoreceptor 1 has a stepped surface 2 at both ends or at one end. This step is for inserting a pawl to separate the paper from the photoreceptor surface after the image is transferred to the paper surface. However, as shown in FIG. 2, when using a developing device 3 that is longer than the length L of the photosensitive layer of this photoreceptor 1 and applying a bias to this developing device, the surface 2 of the stepped portion of the conductive substrate is insulated. If not, the bias will drop and the copier will lose its functionality. In the case of an aluminum base, an alumite treatment or the like may be considered to provide insulation, but this increases the number of steps and causes various problems.

The object of the present invention is to eliminate the above-mentioned drawbacks and provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor that does not require insulation treatment on the stepped portion at the end of the photoreceptor substrate in order to prevent bias drop during copying. do.

In the present invention, a photosensitive layer is also formed on the surface of the stepped portion at the end of the photoreceptor base to serve as insulation.
In this case, if the step is provided at a right angle, the photosensitive layer at the corner part becomes thinner and easily peels off, so an inclined surface is formed between the step and the surface of the center of the photoreceptor, and the step surface and its inclined surface are included. The above object is achieved by covering the entire cylindrical surface of the element with a photosensitive layer.

FIG. 3 shows an embodiment of the present invention, in which a photoreceptor 1 has inclined surfaces 4 at both ends and between stepped portions 2. As shown in FIG. This photoreceptor 1 is provided with a photosensitive layer, for example, a selenium vapor deposited layer, as indicated by diagonal lines, including the surface 2 of the stepped portion and the inclined surface 4. FIG. 4 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of part A in FIG.
2. The entire surface including the inclined surface 4 and the step surface 2 is coated with the photosensitive layer 1.
3 is covered. By providing such a tapered shape, the photosensitive layer 13 can be formed to have a uniform thickness, and since there is no right-angled portion, the photosensitive layer 13 is not easily damaged even if the corners come into contact with other objects, so that the photosensitive layer 13 does not peel off. The smaller the angle θ of the sloped surface 4, the better for peeling, but if it is too small, the width of the sloped surface will become too large, and if it is too large, the effect will be lost, so the slope is preferably about 30 to 60°. Further, as shown in FIG. 5, if a roundness 14 is provided between the inclined surface 4 and the main surface 12 of the photoreceptor, the effect will be further improved.

In this invention, an inclined surface is provided between the stepped surface of an electrophotographic photoreceptor that has a step at the end for inserting a pawl for paper separation and the main surface in the center, and the photoreceptor including the stepped surface and the inclined surface is exposed. It is a durable photoreceptor because it has a layered structure that can prevent bias drop during development without insulating the stepped parts, and there is no peeling of the photosensitive layer from the corners that occur at the boundaries of the surfaces. Can be used effectively. Since the photosensitive layer can be formed at the same time as the main surface, there is no increase in the number of man-hours and it is economically advantageous, and can be similarly applied to photoformed bodies having photosensitive layers other than the selenium vapor deposited layer.
