[Industrial Application Field] The present invention relates to a method for adjusting the surface hardness of metal rolling rolls such as steel by tempering. [Prior Art] In order to obtain a surface hardness suitable for use conditions, most rolling rolls are subjected to quenching and tempering treatments during the manufacturing process. For example, in the case of a working roll for cold rolling, after quenching, a tempering method is usually adopted in which the entire roll is heated to a uniform temperature in order to obtain a surface hardness suitable for the usage conditions. [Problems to be Solved by the Invention] According to the conventional tempering method of heating and tempering the entire roll to a uniform temperature, as shown by the dashed line b in FIG. Almost the same hardness reduction phenomenon occurs inside and outside. Therefore, this method has the problem that the depth at which shore hardness Hs90 can be ensured is 30 mm as-is, but becomes 18 mm after tempering, that is, the hardening depth is impaired. It was hot. The present invention has been made to solve the above problems. [Means for Solving the Problems] The present invention provides a tempering method that allows desired hardness to be obtained after tempering without impairing hardening depth, as shown by curve c in Fig. 1. This is an attempt to solve the problems of the above-mentioned conventional methods. That is, the means for solving the above problem is that when a hardened rolling roll is tempered, the surface layer of the body of the hardened rolling roll is heated using a moving coil induction heating device. This is a method for manufacturing a rolling roll, which comprises instantaneously heating to a desired tempering temperature and tempering. [Function] In the present invention, by utilizing the rapid heating ability unique to induction heating and transmitting an arbitrary frequency, it is possible to temper only the required depth. That is, by increasing the frequency and performing induction heating, only a very shallow surface layer can be tempered. On the other hand, if the frequency is lowered and induction heating is performed at a low frequency, for example, 50 to 60 Hz, the material will be tempered to a deeper extent and the hardening depth will be shallower. Therefore, by selecting the frequency according to the diameter, material, and desired hardness of the roll and performing tempering using an induction heating device, the tempering effect can be applied only to the roll surface layer, and the desired hardness can be achieved without impairing the hardening depth. Able to obtain surface hardness. [Example] An example of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Two cold rolling rolls with a body diameter of 600 mm having the chemical composition shown in Table 1 were fountain quenched, one of them was subjected to the tempering treatment of the present invention, and the other was subjected to the conventional tempering treatment for comparison. That is, a tempering treatment was performed in which the entire roll was heated to a temperature of 140°C.

By employing the method of the present invention in manufacturing a roll, the hardness of the surface layer of the roll can be adjusted without impairing the hardening depth of the roll.
Therefore, since the hardening depth was deeper than that of conventional rolls, the number of rolling tons per 1 mmφ grinding of the roll was clearly increased, which could contribute to improving the roll unit performance.
