Japanese Patent Publication No. 2006-225892

Even if there were no problems with the existing fence itself, there were requests to install a new fence while leaving the existing fence as is, such as installing flat panels for privacy or installing a fence taller than the existing one.

This disclosure relates to a fence mounting structure for attaching a new fence to an existing fence constructed of vertical and horizontal reinforcement arranged in a grid pattern, comprising: a pair of fence connection surfaces facing each other at a predetermined interval; a connecting portion connecting the pair of fence connection surfaces; an existing fence support portion that sandwiches and supports the existing fence between one of the pair of fence connection surfaces; and a pair of fixing portions arranged to sandwich the horizontal reinforcement from above and below, passing through the existing fence support portion and fixed to at least one of the fence connection surfaces.

The first embodiment of this disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the drawings. As shown in Figure 1, in the fence mounting structure 1 of the first embodiment, the new fence 3 is positioned outside the site where the existing fence 2 is installed. The new fence is attached to the existing fence 2 to form the fence 10. In Figure 1, the foreground indicates the outside of the site, and the background indicates the inside. In this specification, the area on the site side and the area opposite the site side are referred to as the outside, with the boundary between the site and the outside of the site separated by the fence 10 being referred to as the inside. Outside the site, for example, there may be a road surface or the site of another owner. The thickness direction of the fence 10 refers to the direction of the inside and outside of the site. The fence mounting structure 1 includes the existing fence 2, the new fence 3, and the connecting part 4.

The existing fence 2 is installed to demarcate an outdoor area and has support posts 21, vertical reinforcement bars 22, and horizontal reinforcement bars 23. The support posts 21 are long, rectangular, cylindrical members fixed to the installation surface 24 and extending vertically. The installation surface 24 is the upper surface of the fence foundation to which the support posts 21 are fixed. In this embodiment, the installation surface 24 is formed above ground level. The vertical reinforcement bars 22 and horizontal reinforcement bars 23 are metal strips with outer diameters smaller than those of the support posts 21. The vertical reinforcement bars 22 extend vertically, and the horizontal reinforcement bars 23 extend horizontally in the front view of the fence 10, intersecting each other. The vertical reinforcement bars 22 and horizontal reinforcement bars 23 are arranged in a grid pattern and supported by the support posts 21.

The newly installed fence 3 is a separate component from the existing fence 2. The newly installed fence 3 has a frame section 31 and a panel section 32. The frame section 31 has a pair of vertical frames 311 extending vertically at both ends in the left-right direction when viewed from the front of the newly installed fence 3, and horizontal frames 312 connecting the pair of vertical frames 311 at their upper and lower ends, forming a roughly rectangular edge overall. The lower horizontal frame 312 constitutes the lower end of the newly installed fence 3, which is supported by the installation surface 24 of the existing fence 2. The panel section 32 is formed by arranging thin rectangular plates 321, whose longitudinal direction extends horizontally, in a vertical arrangement. Gaps 322 are formed between the plates 321. Because the panel section 32 is formed by arranging plates 321, when the newly installed fence 3 is attached to the lattice-shaped existing fence 2, it becomes difficult to see inside the site from the outside.

The connecting portion 4 is a fitting that connects and secures the existing fence 2 and the new fence 3. The connecting portion 4 includes a concave member 41, an existing fence support portion 42, a first fixing portion 431, and a second fixing portion 432.

As shown in Figure 2, the concave member 41 opens toward the left and right ends of the newly installed fence 3 in a front view. The concave member 41 has a pair of fence connecting surfaces 411 and a connecting portion 412.

As shown in Figure 2, the pair of fence connecting surfaces 411 are arranged facing each other with a predetermined distance between them. One extends along the surface 3a of the new fence 3, and the other extends along the surface 3b of the new fence 3. The surface 3a faces the outside of the site, and the back surface 3b faces the inside of the site. The new fence 3 is positioned between the pair of fence connecting surfaces 411. The pair of fence connecting surfaces 411 have a roughly rectangular, plate-like shape. Screw holes for inserting screws are formed in the pair of fence connecting surfaces 411.

The connecting portion 412 connects the pair of fence connection surfaces 411. Specifically, the connecting portion 412 extends along the thickness direction of the fence 10 and connects the left and right outer ends of the fence 10 on the pair of fence connection surfaces. The connecting portion 412 has a roughly rectangular, plate-like shape, with dimensions larger in both length and width than each of the fence connection surfaces 411. The thickness dimension of the connecting portion 412 is greater than the thickness dimension of the vertical frame 311 of the newly installed fence 3. As shown in Figure 2, the left and right ends of the newly installed fence 3, i.e., the pair of vertical frames 311, are positioned within the opening of the concave member 41.

As shown in Figure 4B, the existing fence support portion 42 is a vertically elongated plate, and its vertical and horizontal dimensions are smaller than the fence connection surface 411 of the concave member 41. As shown in Figure 2, the existing fence support portion 42 supports the existing fence 2 by sandwiching it between one of the pair of fence connection surfaces 411. Specifically, the existing fence support portion 42 is fixed in contact with the existing fence 2 at a position facing one of the pair of fence connection surfaces 411. Here, the one fence connection surface 411 is the fence connection surface 411 located on the back surface 3b side of the existing fence 2. The existing fence support portion 42 has screw holes through which a pair of fixing portions 43 are inserted.

The pair of fixing parts 43 are composed of bolts having a shaft head and a shaft portion. Each pair of fixing parts 43 has a first fixing part 431 and a second fixing part 432. As shown in Figure 3, the pair of fixing parts 43 are positioned to sandwich the horizontal reinforcement bar 23 from above and below. The pair of fixing parts 43 penetrate the existing fence support part 42 and both of the pair of fence connection surfaces 411. By penetrating both fence connection surfaces 411, they also penetrate the vertical frame 311 of the new fence 3, firmly fixing the existing fence 2 and the new fence 3 together.

The first fixing portion 431 penetrates and fixes the existing fence 2, the new fence 3, the pair of fence connection surfaces 411 of the concave member 41, and the existing fence support portion 42. As shown in Figure 3, the first fixing portion 431 rests on the horizontal reinforcement bars 23 of the existing fence 2 and is locked and fixed in place.

The second fixing portion 432 penetrates and fixes the existing fence 2, the new fence 3, the pair of fence connection surfaces 411 of the concave member 41, and the existing fence support portion 42. The second fixing portion 432 has the same shape as the first fixing portion 431 and is positioned below the first fixing portion 431. The second fixing portion 432 is fixed with a horizontal reinforcement bar 23 positioned between it and the first fixing portion 431.

Figure 4A shows the fence connection surface 411 as viewed from the front surface 3a side of the newly installed fence 3. The shaft heads of the first fixing part 431 and the second fixing part 432, described later, are positioned on the fence connection surface 411 on the front surface 3a side. Figure 4B shows the fence connection surface 411 as viewed from the back surface 3b side of the newly installed fence 3. The existing fence support part 42 is positioned on the site side of the fence connection surface 411 on the back surface 3b side. The ends of the shafts of the first fixing part 431 and the second fixing part 432 pass through the fence connection surface 411 and the existing fence support part 42 and are fastened with nuts 46. Figure 4C shows the concave member 41, the existing fence support part 42, and the first fixing part 431 and the second fixing part 432 as viewed from the side.

The number of horizontal bars 23 positioned between the first fixing part 431 and the second fixing part 432 only needs to be at least one. For example, as shown in Figure 3, in this embodiment, the existing fence 2 has curved portions at its upper and lower ends that curve outward toward the outside of the site. At the upper end of the existing fence 2, two horizontal bars 23 are positioned between the first fixing part 431 and the second fixing part 432. The two horizontal bars 23 are sandwiched between the first fixing part 431 and the second fixing part 432. On the other hand, at the lower end of the existing fence 2, one horizontal bar 23 is positioned between the first fixing part 431 and the second fixing part 432. As long as the horizontal bars 23 are positioned so that they are sandwiched between the upper and lower parts of the pair of fixing parts 43, the pair of fixing parts 43 and the horizontal bars 23 do not need to be in contact and sandwiched together. The first fixing part 431 is secured to the horizontal reinforcement bar 23, thereby fixing the concave member 41 and the existing fence support part 42 while sandwiching the existing fence 2. Since the connection is made by fixing the first fixing part 431 and the second fixing part 432 at two points, the connection becomes robust.

According to the first embodiment, the following effects are achieved. The fence mounting structure 1 is configured to attach a new fence 3 to an existing fence 2 which is composed of vertical bars 22 and horizontal bars 23 arranged in a grid pattern. The fence mounting structure 1 is composed of a pair of fence connection surfaces 411 facing each other with a predetermined interval between them, a connecting part 412 that connects the pair of fence connection surfaces 411, an existing fence support part 42 that supports the existing fence 2 by sandwiching it between one of the pair of fence connection surfaces 411, and a pair of fixing parts 43 that are arranged to sandwich the horizontal bars 23 from above and below, and that penetrate the existing fence support part 42 and are fixed to the pair of fence connection surfaces 411. The pair of fixing parts 43 and the fence connection surfaces 411 are fixed to the existing fence 2 via the existing fence support part 42. Therefore, by fixing the fence connection surfaces 411 to the new fence 3, the existing fence 2 and the new fence 3 can be connected and the fence 10 can be installed without removing or partially replacing the existing fence. Therefore, it is possible to easily add a new fence 3 without large-scale construction or significant costs. By adding the new fence 3 to the existing fence 2, it becomes possible to create a screen with panel-like elements to obscure the view within the property, or to surround the property with a new fence 3 of your preferred design, thereby increasing convenience.

According to this embodiment, the newly installed fence 3 is positioned outside the site where the existing fence 2 is installed, and between a pair of fence connection surfaces 411. By positioning the newly installed fence 3 outside the existing fence 2, the aesthetic appearance when viewed from the outside is improved. In this case, since the newly installed fence 3 is positioned between the pair of fence connection surfaces 411, it becomes possible to reduce the gap between the existing fence 2 and the newly installed fence 3. Since the area outside the existing fence 2 is often the road surface or someone else's property, reducing the gap between the existing fence 2 and the newly installed fence 3 reduces the area where the structure extends outside the site.

According to this embodiment, the lower end of the newly installed fence 3 is supported on the installation surface 24 where the existing fence 2 is installed. By simply connecting the newly installed fence 3 to the existing fence 2 in the thickness direction of the fence 10, the load of the newly installed fence 3 itself is supported by the installation surface 24, thus ensuring sufficient structural strength of the fence mounting structure 1. Therefore, it is possible to facilitate the installation of the newly installed fence 3 to the existing fence while also ensuring safety and durability.

This disclosure is not limited to the embodiments described above, and modifications, improvements, etc., to the extent that they can achieve the objectives of this disclosure are included. In the fence mounting structure 1A of the second embodiment shown in Figure 5, the fence 10A is configured by positioning the new fence 3 inside the site where the existing fence 2 is installed. As shown in Figure 6, the concave member 41 is connected such that one of the pair of fence connection surfaces 411 abuts against the existing fence 2, and the other abuts against the vertical frame 311 of the new fence 3. In this state, the first fixing part 431 and the second fixing part 432 have their shaft heads positioned on the site side, and their shafts extending from the site side to the outside of the site. The first fixing part 431 and the second fixing part 432 penetrate the existing fence 2, the new fence 3, the pair of fence connection surfaces 411, and the existing fence support part 42, connecting and fixing the new fence 3 to the existing fence 2.

As shown in Figures 6 and 7, when a new fence 3 is installed inside an existing fence 2, the posts 21 of the existing fence 2 protrude, resulting in areas where the new fence 3 cannot be directly attached to the grid of vertical and horizontal reinforcement bars 22 and 23 of the existing fence 2. Here, the thickness dimension T1 connecting the outer surfaces of the pair of fence connection surfaces 411 is larger than the thickness dimension T2 of the post 21. Note that the imaginary lines around the post 21 shown in Figure 6 represent the lines of the end caps located at the top of the posts. With this configuration, by fixing one of the fence connection surfaces 411 inside the existing fence 2 and fixing the other of the fence connection surface 411 to the new fence 3 via the connecting part 412, the new fence 3 is positioned at a distance of the thickness dimension T1 connecting the outer surfaces of the pair of fence connection surfaces 411 from the existing fence 2. Furthermore, the thickness dimension T2 of the post 21 is smaller than the dimension T1 connecting the outer surfaces of the pair of fence connection surfaces 411. Therefore, the new fence 3 can be positioned inside the existing fence without the need for any additional parts besides the connecting section 4.

According to the second embodiment, the newly installed fence 3 is visible when looking outwards from a building on the site, thus improving the view from people on the site. Furthermore, even if the new fence 3 is installed while avoiding the posts 21 of the existing fence 2, there is no concern that the structure will extend outside the site because the new fence 3 remains within the site.

In the above embodiment, a configuration was described in which a pair of fixing parts 43 are fixed to both of a pair of fence connection surfaces 411. However, the pair of fixing parts 43 only need to be fixed to at least one of the fence connection surfaces 411 by passing through the existing fence support part 42. Fixing to the other fence connection surface may be done by other means, such as engagement or fitting, or by using another bolt or the like.
