Description
なお、NTC特性(Negative Temperature Coefficient)とは、温度上昇に伴う抵抗の減少を示す特性である。
(1)流体の流路となり流体の流入側の端面である流入端面から流体の流出側の端面である流出端面まで延びる複数のセルを区画形成する多孔質の隔壁と、最外周に位置する外周壁とを有する柱状のハニカム構造部、及び前記ハニカム構造部の側面に配設された一対の電極層を備え、
前記一対の電極層のそれぞれが、前記ハニカム構造部のセルの延びる方向に延びる帯状に形成され、
前記セルの延びる方向に直交する断面において、前記一対の電極層における一方の前記電極層が、前記一対の電極層における他方の前記電極層に対して、前記ハニカム構造部の中心を挟んで対向するように配設されるハニカム構造体であって、
前記ハニカム構造部は、前記流体の流入側が開口して前記流体の流出側の端面に目封止部を有する複数の第1セルと、前記流体の流出側が開口して前記流体の流入側の端面に目封止部を有する複数の第2セルとを有するハニカム構造体であって、
前記セルの延びる方向において、前記一対の電極層のそれぞれの長さの中央位置が、前記ハニカム構造部の長さの中央位置より、前記流出端面に近いことを特徴とするハニカム構造体。
(2)前記ハニカム構造部がセラミックス材料で形成される(1)に記載のハニカム構造体。
(3)前記ハニカム構造部の材料がNTC特性を有する(1)又は(2)に記載のハニカム構造体。
(4)前記セルの延びる方向における前記ハニカム構造部の長さをLとするとき、前記一対の電極層のそれぞれが、前記流体の流出側の端面から、前記ハニカム構造部のセルの延びる方向に0.9×Lの長さ以内まで延びる(1)~(3)のいずれかに記載のハニカム構造体。
図1は本発明におけるハニカム構造部の一例を示すものである。ハニカム構造部10は、例えば、流体の流路となり流体の流入側の端面である流入端面101から流体の流出側の端面である流出端面102まで延びる複数のセル12を区画形成する多孔質の隔壁11と、最外周に位置する外周壁とを有する。セル12の数、配置、形状等及び隔壁11の厚み等は制限されず、必要に応じて適宜設計することができる。
図4(a)(b)に示されるように、通常、ハニカム構造部の外周壁に一対の電極層21a、21bが配設され、各電極層21a、21bは、ハニカム構造部のセル12の延びる方向に延びる帯状に形成される。また、セル12の延びる方向に直交するハニカム構造部断面において、一対の電極層21a、21bはハニカム構造部の中心を挟んで対向するように配設される。当該構成により、ハニカム構造体は、電圧を印加した時に、ハニカム構造部10内を流れる電流の偏りを抑制することができ、ハニカム構造部内の温度分布の偏りを抑制することができる。
ここで中心角αとは、セル12の延びる方向に直交する断面において、電極層21a、21bの両端部とハニカム構造部の中心を結ぶ直線がなす角度をいう(図6参照)。なお、図3では、一対の電極層21a、21bのそれぞれの中心角αが同じ大きさである。
電極付きハニカム構造体の断面中心位置かつ入口端面から10mmの位置に熱電対(以下、上流側の熱電対という。)を設置した。また、該ハニカム断面中心位置かつ出口端面から10mmの位置に熱電対(以下、下流側の熱電対という。)を設置した。これらの熱電対の設置により、ハニカム構造部の温度が測定できる。
上記電極付きハニカム構造体に排気量1.4リットルのガソリンエンジンの排気管に設置し、電極付きハニカム構造体に4g/リットルのパティキュレートを堆積させた後、エンジンを止めて排気管が25℃になるまで放置した。次に、該ガソリンエンジンを稼働させるとともに、電極付きハニカム構造体に3kWの電気を30秒間通電した。エンジンは稼働後はアイドリング状態を600秒間維持させた。この間、堆積したパティキュレートの一部が燃焼し電極付きハニカム構造体のハニカム構造部温度が上昇する。前述の上流側の熱電対および下流側の熱電対によって電極付きハニカム構造体のハニカム構造部の温度を測定した。
表1によれば、本発明の実施例は、いずれも、比較例より、ハニカム構造部の上流部と下流部との温度差が小さかった。

- 流体の流路となり流体の流入側の端面である流入端面から流体の流出側の端面である流出端面まで延びる複数のセルを区画形成する多孔質の隔壁と、最外周に位置する外周壁とを有する柱状のハニカム構造部、及び前記ハニカム構造部の側面に配設された一対の電極層を備え、
前記一対の電極層のそれぞれが、前記ハニカム構造部のセルの延びる方向に延びる帯状に形成され、
前記セルの延びる方向に直交する断面において、前記一対の電極層における一方の前記電極層が、前記一対の電極層における他方の前記電極層に対して、前記ハニカム構造部の中心を挟んで対向するように配設されるハニカム構造体であって、
前記ハニカム構造部は、前記流体の流入側が開口して前記流体の流出側の端面に目封止部を有する複数の第1セルと、前記流体の流出側が開口して前記流体の流入側の端面に目封止部を有する複数の第2セルとを有するハニカム構造体であって、
前記セルの延びる方向において、前記一対の電極層のそれぞれの長さの中央位置が、前記ハニカム構造部の長さの中央位置より、前記流体の流出側の端面に近いことを特徴とするハニカム構造体。 - 前記ハニカム構造部がセラミックス材料で形成される請求項1に記載のハニカム構造体。
- 前記ハニカム構造部の材料がNTC特性を有する請求項1又は2に記載のハニカム構造体。
- 前記セルの延びる方向における前記ハニカム構造部の長さをLとするとき、前記一対の電極層のそれぞれが、前記流体の流出側の端面から、前記ハニカム構造部のセルの延びる方向に0.9×Lの長さ以内まで延びる請求項1~3のいずれかに記載のハニカム構造体。
