Description
媒体繊維は、調整可能な細孔径、透過性、効率等の主要な濾過性を媒体に付与する繊維である。媒体繊維は、例えば、ガラス繊維、炭素繊維、セラミック繊維、ポリエステル、またはセルロースであり得る。本発明の粒子濾過層の幾つかの例示的な実施においては、ガラス繊維をかなり高い比率で用いることができる。ガラス繊維は、細孔径を調整すると共に、媒体中で他の繊維と協力して媒体に十分な流量、高い能力、十分な効率、および高い湿潤強度を付与する。
結合剤繊維は一般的に、媒体繊維の支持体となり、また媒体繊維に改善された取扱い性、強度、および耐圧縮性を付与できるように構成される。特定の実施においては、結合剤繊維はまた、完成紙料の形成、シートまたは層の形成、および後段の加工(厚み調整、乾燥、裁断、およびフィルタエレメントの形成を含む)における加工性も改善する。
粒子濾過層の性能特性は、粒子濾過層の繊維のサイズ、細孔構造、中実性、および圧縮率に関する属性の調整に影響される。一般に、中実性が比較的低くかつ圧縮率が低いと同時に、平均流量細孔径が比較的小さいが最大流量細孔径が比較的大きい媒体を使用すると、早期目詰まりを起こすことなく粒子を除去することができる例示的な媒体構成が得られる。いくつかの実施形態において、粒子濾過層は空気中で親水性であり、これは、First Ten Angstroms接触角計測器などの標準的な接触角測定デバイスを使用して測定する場合、空気中の水液滴が、90度未満の濾過層の表面との接触角を有することを意味する。粒子濾過層110の親水性は、空気中で疎水性となる傾向がある、燃料中での粒子濾過のために使用することができる従来のメルトブローン材料から区別することができる。「空気中で疎水性」とは、一般に、空気中の水液滴が、90度より大きい、媒体の表面との接触角を有することを意味する。
圧縮率(パーセント)=x/t1
(式中、t1は、荷重が0.5グラムのときの積み重ねた試料の底面からの厚みであり、t2は、荷重が4,800グラムのときの積み重ねた試料の底面からの厚みであり、xは、試験中のプローブの移動距離に等しく、これは距離t1−t2である)
この試験を実施するのに適した装置としては、例えば、Texture Expert Exceedソフトウェア(バージョン2.64)を用いたStable Micro SystemsからのTA.XT2i Texture Analyzerが挙げられる。
機械的に安定な粒子濾過層中に、媒体繊維および場合により結合剤繊維を結合させるのを助けるために非繊維結合剤樹脂を使用することができる。この種の熱可塑性結合剤樹脂材料は乾燥粉末としてまたは溶剤系として使用することができるが、典型的には、熱可塑性ビニル樹脂の水性分散液である。非繊維樹脂系結合剤成分は、粒子濾過層に十分な強度を得るという目的には必ずしも必要ではないが、使用することは可能である。
粒子濾過層の作製における特定の実施形態においては、湿式または乾式加工のいずれかを用いて繊維マットが形成される。このマットを加熱することにより熱可塑性材料が溶融され、繊維が内部で接着することによって媒体が形成される。2成分繊維を、繊維に融合して機械的に安定な媒体を得ることが可能になる。2成分繊維が外側に熱的に結合する鞘部を有することによって、媒体層の内部で2成分繊維が他の繊維と結合する。
図1に戻ると、合体層120は、粒子濾過層110の下流に位置し、かつ粒子濾過層110に連結している。合体層120は、一般に、それを通過する燃料流における遊離水を合体させるように構成される。粒子濾過層110は、一般に、燃料流から微粒子汚染を捕捉するために構成され、それによって、捕捉された粒子が、合体層120の合体機能を妨害することが阻止される。しかしながら、いくつかの実施形態において、合体層は、燃料流中の微粒子を濾過するためにも構成されることができる。合体層120は、種々の形状を有することができる。
本明細書に開示される技術と一貫する濾過材のフラットシートを、当該技術において既知の比較濾過材に対して試験した。特に、本明細書に開示される技術と一貫する実施例濾過材は、ガラス繊維およびに成分ポリエステル結合剤繊維の上流粒子濾過層を有した。粒子濾過層は、上流媒体層が下流媒体層より高い空気透過性を有する、2つの媒体層から構成される。粒子濾過層の全空気量透過性は、約120cfmであった。比較濾過材は、燃料濾過に関する微粒子濾過のために最適化されると広く考えられる従来のメルトブローンポリエステルの粒子濾過層を有した。メルトブローンポリエステルは、約25cfmの空気透過性を有した。実施例濾過材(試料B)および比較濾過材(試料A)は、両方とも同一の合体および支持層を有した。合体層は、約10cfmの空気透過性を有する、アクリル樹脂と結合した極小ガラス媒体であった。支持層は、ナイロンシースによって実質的に連続的なポリエステル繊維を有した。媒体の層は両試料において結合していなかった。
Claims (4)
- 結合剤繊維および媒体繊維を実質的に含んでなる粒子濾過層と、
前記粒子濾過層の下流にあり、かつ前記粒子濾過層と連結し、少なくとも70重量%のガラス繊維を含んでなる合体層であって、ガラス繊維と、アクリル樹脂と、を実質的に含む合体層と、
を含んでなり、
燃料流中の粒子を濾去し、かつ遊離水を合体させるために構成され、前記粒子濾過層と前記合体層の各々は空気透過性を有し、前記合体層に対する前記粒子濾過層の前記空気透過性の比率は3:1から15:1の範囲である、燃料−水分離において使用するための濾過材。 - 前記媒体繊維が、ガラス繊維を含んでなる、請求項1に記載の濾過材。
- 前記結合剤繊維が、2成分繊維である、請求項1および2のいずれか一項に記載の濾過材。
- 前記合体層の下流にあり、かつ前記合体層と連結する支持層をさらに含んでなる、請求項1から3のいずれか一項に記載の濾過材。
