センサ装置は、検体の電気化学的酸化または還元反応を通して発生する電流を計測することにより検体の濃度を計測する電気化学のアンペロメトリセンサであり得る。検体はセンサの作用電極に拡散し、作用電極に吸収される。その後、電気化学的反応が発生する。還元反応は電子が作用電極から検体へ移動する時に生じ、一方酸化反応は電子が検体から作用電極に移動する時に生じる。電子の移動方向は作用電極に付着する電位に依存する。センサの反応(即ち、解析信号)は作用電極と対電極および/または基準電極との間に流れ、作用電極と共に回路を完成させるのに使用される生成電流である。作用電極に適切にバイアスがかけられている時、生成電流は反応速度に比例し得、その結果作用電極を取り囲む検体の濃度の計測を提供できる。

電源140は周囲のエネルギーを収穫してコントローラ150と生体相互作用電子回路160に電力を供給するように構成され、エネルギー収穫アンテナ142および/または太陽電池144を含み得る。エネルギー収穫アンテナ142は入射する無線放射からエネルギーを捕獲し得る。太陽電池144は入射する紫外線、可視、および/または赤外線放射からエネルギーを捕獲するように構成された光電池を含み得る。
整流器/調整器146が捕獲したエネルギーを、コントローラを操作するのに適切なレベルで安定した直流供給電圧141へ調整し、電圧をコントローラ150に供給するのに使用され得る。整流器/調整器146は、周囲エネルギー集積アンテナ142および/または太陽電池144の高い周波数変動を緩和するために1つまたは複数のエネルギー蓄積デバイスを含み得る。例えば、1つまたは複数のエネルギー蓄積デバイス(例えば、コンデンサまたはインダクタ)が直流供給電圧141を調節するために整流器146の出力を超えて平行に連結され得、低域フィルタとして機能するように構成され得る。
コントローラ150はまた、画素配列164を操作するための表示ドライバモジュール154を含んでもよい。画素配列164は別々にプログラム可能な行と列に配置された光透過、光反射および/または発光画素の配列である。個々の画素回路は表示ドライバモジュール154からの情報に従い選択的に光を透過、反射および/または発信するための液晶技術、微小電気機械技術、放射性ダイオード技術等を含んでもよい。そのような画素配列164はまた、ビジュアルコンテンツをカラーにするために1色以上の画素(例えば赤、緑および青の画素)を含んでもよい。表示ドライバモジュール154は、例えばプログラミング情報を画素配列164の別個にプログラムされたピクセルに提供する1つまたは複数のデータ回線およびそのようなプログラミング情報を受信するための画素の群を設定する1つまたは複数のアドレス回線を含み得る。眼に位置するそのような画素配列64はまた、光を画素配列から眼で感知可能な焦点面へ向ける1つまたは複数のレンズを含み得る。
コントローラ150は相互接点151を経由して生体相互作用電子回路160およびアンテナ170に連結される。相互接点151はパターンのある導体材料(例えば金、プラチナ、パラジウム、チタン、銅、アルミニウム、銀、金属、それらの組合せ等)を含んでもよい。
外部リーダー120は、スマートフォン、デジタル補助装置またはワイヤレス通信リンク171を提供するのに十分な無線接続性を有する他の可搬のコンピュータデバイスであってもよい。外部リーダー120はまた、例えば通信リンク171が可搬のコンピュータデバイスに通常用いられない搬送周波数で動作する例のように可搬のコンピュータデバイスに接続され得るアンテナモジュールとして実行されてもよい。いくつかの例において、外部リーダー120はワイヤレス通信リンク171にほとんどないまたは低い電力で動作させるために着用者の眼の比較的近くで着用されるよう構成された特殊用途のデバイスである。例えば、外部リーダー120は例えばネックレス、イヤリング等の宝石への組み込み、または例えば帽子、ヘッドバンド等の頭部の近くで着用される衣料品に組み込まれることができる。
コンタクトの装着を容易にするため、眼に装着可能なデバイス210は、(例えば角膜表面を覆う涙液膜を使用した毛細血管の力により)湿らせた角膜表面に接着する(「取り付ける」)ように構成された凹面226を含み得る。図2Aの底面図は凹面226に対向する。眼に対する凹面と共に取り付けられる一方、眼に装着可能なデバイス210の凸面224が、眼に装着可能なデバイス210が眼に取り付けられる間の目蓋の動きに干渉しないように形成される。図2Aに示される底面図から、眼に装着可能なデバイス210の外周近くの外周222は凹曲形を有し、一方眼に装着可能なデバイス210の中心付近の中心領域221は凸曲形を有する。
図2Aに示すように、生体相互作用電子回路モジュール260は凸面224に対向する感知プラットフォーム230の一側に位置する。例えば生体相互作用電子回路モジュール260が検体バイオセンサを含む場合、そのようなバイオセンサを凸面224の近くになるように感知プラットフォーム230に取り付けることはバイオセンサに凸面224を通して拡散された、または凸面224内のチャネルを通してバイオセンサに到達した検体を感知することを可能にする(図2Cおよび2Dはチャネル272を示す)。
涙液膜は眼の構造の毛細血管を通して血液供給に接触し、個人の健康状態を診断するために分析される血液に見られる多くの生体指標を含む。例えば、涙液膜はブドウ糖、カルシウム、ナトリウム、コレステロール、カリウム、他の生体指標等を含む。涙液膜の生体指標濃度は血液中の対応する生体指標の濃度と体系的に異なり得るが、2つの濃度レベルの関係は血液の濃度レベルに対する涙液膜の生体指標濃度を描くために確立され得る。例えば、ブドウ糖の涙液膜濃度は対応する血液ブドウ糖濃度のおよそ10分の1になるよう確立(例えば実験的に決定)され得る。しかし、他の比率の関係および/または比率でない関係も使用され得る。よって、涙液膜の検体濃度レベルの計測はある体積の血液をランセットで開き人体の外で分析することにより実行される採血技術と比較して生体指標のレベルを監視するための非侵襲性の技術を提供する。
図2Cおよび図2Dにおける断面図に示されるように、感知プラットフォーム230は凸面224の隣接する部分にほぼ平行になるように傾斜され得る。上述の通り、感知プラットフォーム230は内側に向く面232(ポリマー材料220の凹面226に近い)および外側に向く面234(凸面224に近い)を有する平らなリングである。感知プラットフォーム230は面232、234の一方または両方に隣接する電子部品および/またはパターン化された導体材料を含み得る。
図3A〜図3Kは、例えば感知プラットフォーム230等の生体適合構造を製造するプロセスの段階を例示する。図3A〜3Kに示された例は全体として、電子回路を封入する生体適合構造を生成するために開発された、連続形成された層を例示する断面図として示される。層は、例えば電気めっき、フォトリソグラフィー、堆積および/または蒸発製造プロセス等の微細加工および/または製造技術により成長され得る。様々な材料が、例えば電線、電極、連結パッド等を形成する目的で、特定の配置における材料のパターン化のためフォトレジストおよび/またはマスクを使用したパターンにより形成され得る。更に、電気めっき技術はまた、電極の配置を金属めっきで被覆するために使用され得る。例えば、堆積および/またはフォトリソグラフィープロセスにより形成された導体材料の配置は金属材料でめっきされ得、望ましい厚さの導電性構造を生成する。しかし、封入された電子回路構造を生成するための図3A〜図3Kに関連して例示され記載された様々な層の相対的な厚さを含む寸法は、拡大されて示されていない。代わりに、図3A〜図3Kの図面は説明の目的のみで、様々な層の順番を概略的に示す。
図3Aは生体適合材料の第1の層310に覆われた加工基板302を示す。加工基板302は封入された電子構造の層が組み立てられる如何なる平坦な面でもよい。例えば、加工基板302は半導体装置および/またはミクロ電子工学の製造に使用されるのと同じウェハ(例えばシリコンウェハ)であってもよい。
生体適合材料の第1の層310は例えば加工基板302の上部の蒸着等の微細加工プロセスにより形成され得、封入された電子構造が形成され得る表面を提供する。生体適合材料の第1の層310は加工基板302に対向する生体適合材料310の表面が平坦な面を形成するようほぼ均一な厚さを有する加工基板302に堆積され得る。1つの例としての実施形態において、生体適合材料の第1の層310は1〜50マイクロメートルの範囲の厚さを有し得る。
シリコンウェハおよびウェハの上の材料はその後プラズマに曝される。プラズマはプラズマアッシャー、反応性イオンエッチャー、誘導結合プラズマ等を含み得る。プラズマは生体適合材料の任意の露出された層を通してエッチングし、そのような層を通して加工基板302に到達する。しかし、プラズマはマスキング層またはチップ320をエッチングしない。よってマスキング層は、付与されたプラズマがマスキング層の真下にあるものをエッチングすることを阻止する役割をする。例えばチップ320のような様々な他の要素もマスクの役割をし、プラズマが要素の真下の生体適合材料の層をエッチングすることを阻止する。よって、図3Eに示すように、プラズマは生体適合材料の第2の層330の一部332をエッチングし、チップ320に到達する。生体適合材料の第2の層330の残りの部分はマスキング層によりプラズマエッチングから保護される。
プラズマの付与の後、図3Fに示すようにマスキング層が除去される。マスキング層はいくつもの数の方法によって除去され得る。例えば、マスキング層が金属マスクであれば、除去はウェットエッチングを付与することを含み得る。プラズマの付与およびマスキング層の除去の後に残るものが図3Fに示される。それは、チップ320の露出された第2の表面324と同じ高さの上部表面334を有する生体適合材料の第2の層330である。
アンテナ350は電子回路に電力供給を行うために収穫された無線周波数放射を受信するのに適切なループアンテナであり得る。アンテナ350は、例えば、上記の図1および図2Aから図2Dに関連して例示されかつ記載されたアンテナと同様、眼に装着可能なデバイスの周辺に配置されるのに適した約5ミリメートルの半径を有するループであってもよい。センサ電極340、相互接点352、354およびアンテナ350はそれぞれ、例えば約5マイクロメートルの厚さで形成され得る。
いくつかの例としての実施形態において、生体適合材料の第1の層310の上にパターン化された1つまたは複数の要素は、生体適合材料の第2の層330の真上にパターン化されたシード層(または接着層)を含む多層配置であってもよい。そのようなシード層は、生体適合材料およびシード層に亘ってパターン化された金属構造の大部分の両方に接着するように使用され得る。例えば、そのようなシード層は、生体適合材料に良好に接着し、かつ要素を形成する金属構造の残りを電気めっきするためのガイドの役割を果たす材料であってもよい。
生体適合材料の第3の層360は生体適合材料の第1の層310および第2の層330と同じまたはほぼ類似する材料から形成され得、生体適合性かつ電気的絶縁性の両方を有する異なるポリマー材料であってもよい。
好ましくは生体適合材料の第3の層360は堆積されて組み立てられた電子回路の全体に及ぶ連続した層を生成する。生体適合材料の第3の層360は組み立てられた電子回路の設置面積を超えて延伸する領域におよび得る。その結果、組み立てられた電子回路は生体適合材料の第2の層330の真上に存在する生体適合材料の第3の層360の一部により囲まれ得る。
図3Aから3Kに特に示されていないが、いくつかの作製プロセスはセンサ電極340の近位にある試薬層を形成する(例えばセンサ電極340の少なくとも作用電極を被覆する)ことを含み得る。試薬層はセンサ電極340の電極を特定の検体に敏感にさせるのに使用される物質を含み得る。例えば、ブドウ糖酸化酵素を含む層がブドウ糖の検知のためにセンサ電極340に付与されてもよい。
公開された生体適合構造は、例えば眼に装着可能なデバイスまたは植え込み可能な医療デバイス内等の生物環境に組み込むのに適している。生体適合可能な材料を封入することにより、周囲環境は埋め込まれた電子回路からシールされる。例えば、構造が生物学的宿主に植え込まれる、または眼に装着可能なデバイスに配置されて涙液膜に曝される場合、構造は生物学的宿主の流体(例えば涙液、血液等)に曝されることができる。その理由は、センサ電極340が露出されて流体内の1つまたは複数の検体を検知できることを除いて、外部表面の全体が生体適合材料で被覆されているからである。
図4Aは装着可能なデバイスを製造するための例としての方法400のフローチャートである。装着可能なデバイスは、例えば図1に示した眼に装着可能なデバイス110または図2A〜図2Dに示した眼に装着可能なデバイス210等の眼に装着可能なデバイスであり得る。
例としての方法400は電子部品および導電パターンを含む生体適合構造を作製することを含む(ブロック402)。生体適合構造は図3A〜図3Kを参照して上記のように、または図4Bを参照して以下のように製造され得る。
生体適合構造は様々な方法でポリマーにより囲まれ得る。1つの例では、2段階の射出成形プロセスが使用され得る。第1の段階において、ポリマーの第1の層が型に形成され、生体適合構造が第1のポリマー層に配置される。第2の段階において、第1のポリマー層の生体適合構造を被覆するためにポリマーの第2の層が型に形成される。生体適合構造をポリマーで囲む他の方法も可能である。
例としての方法410において、生体適合構造は電子部品と導電パターンを含む。電子部品は集積回路、個別の要素(例えばトランジスタ、抵抗器またはコンデンサ等)、またはいくつかの他の種類の電子部品であり得る。電子部品は、例えば図1を参照して記載されたコントローラ150であってもよい。この例において、電子部品は第1の表面および第1の表面と反対の第2の表面を有し、例えば図3Bから図3Kを参照して記載されたチップ320等の1つまたは複数の電子接点を第2の表面に含む。
方法410は更に、電子部品の第1の表面を生体適合材料の第1の層に配置すること(ブロック414)と、生体適合材料の第2の層を生体適合材料の第1の層および電子部品の第2の表面に亘って形成すること(ブロック416)を含む。生体適合材料の第2の層は、例えば図3Cから図3Kを参照して記載された生体適合材料の第2の層330と同様に形成され得る。
方法は生体適合材料の第3の層を導電パターンに亘って形成すること(ブロック422)を含む。生体適合材料の第3の層は図3Hから図3Kを参照して記載された生体適合材料の層360と同様であってもよい。
方法410は更に生体適合材料の第3の層の一部を除去することによりセンサ電極を露出すること(ブロック426)を含む。第3の層の一部は、例えば図3Jから3Kを参照して記載されるようにプラズマの一部を露出することにより除去されてもよい。
アニール処理するプロセスは、上記のように生体適合構造を完全に封入するために、生体適合材料の3つの層をシールしてもよい。
更に、組み立てられた封入された構造は、図3I〜図3Kを参照して記載されたように、金属マスクを経由してリング形状の構造を形成しその後プラズマを付与するためエッチングされてもよい。例えば、封入された構造は上記の図2A〜図2Dに関連して示されかつ記載されたリング形状の感知プラットフォーム230と同様の平坦なリング形状を形成するためにエッチングされてもよい。封入された構造はまた、組み立てられた電子回路がシールされた生体適合材料により封入される全体が平坦な構造を形成するために例えば矩形、円形(例えばディスク)、楕円形等の他の形状にエッチングされてもよい。
他の実施形態において、解放された封入された構造は、例えば皮膚または口腔内等の体の他の部分に取り付けられる装着可能なデバイスに埋め込まれ得る。例として、生体適合構造は、例えば腹部または上腕部の中等の皮膚の下、口腔内の組織または電気信号を読み取るために脳の中に取り付けられまたは植え付けられてもよい。上記に記載した生体適合構造は生体指標を検知する如何なる植え付け可能なデバイスに適用されてもよい。
1つの実施形態において、例としてのコンピュータプログラム製品500が信号搬送媒体502を使用して提供される。信号搬送媒体502は、1つまたは複数のプロセッサにより実行された時、図1〜図4Bに関して上記に記載された機能または機能の一部を提供し得る1つまたは複数のプログラミング命令504を含み得る。いくつかの例では、信号搬送媒体502は、例えばこれに限らないが、ハードディスクドライブ、コンパクトディスク(CD)、デジタルビデオディスク(DVD)、デジタルテープ、メモリ等の非一時的コンピュータ可読媒体506を含み得る。いくつかの実施において、信号搬送媒体502は、例えばこれに限らないが、メモリ、読み出し/書き込み(R/W)CD、R/W DVD等のコンピュータ記録可能媒体508であり得る。いくつかの実施において、信号搬送媒体502は、例えばこれに限らないが、デジタルおよび/またはアナログ通信媒体(例えば光ファイバケーブル、導波管、有線通信リンク、ワイヤレス通信リンク等)等の通信媒体510であり得る。よって、例えば、信号搬送媒体502はワイヤレスの形態の通信媒体510により搬送され得る。
非一時的コンピュータ可読媒体506はまた、互いに離れて配置され得る多数のデータ記憶要素間で分配され得る。記憶された命令のいくつかまたは全てを実行するコンピュータデバイスは微細加工コントローラまたは他のコンピュータプラットフォームであり得る。代替的に、記憶された命令のいくつかまたは全てを実行するコンピュータデバイスは、例えばサーバ等の、離れて配置されたコンピュータシステムであり得る。
Claims (20)
- 装着可能なデバイスを作製する方法であって、
電子部品および導電パターンを含む生体適合構造を作製することであって、前記電子部品は、第1の表面および前記第1の表面と反対の第2の表面を有し、前記第2の表面に電気接点を含む、前記作製することを備え、
前記生体適合構造を作製することは、
生体適合材料の第1の層を形成すること、
前記電子部品の前記第1の表面を前記生体適合材料の前記第1の層に配置すること、
前記生体適合材料の第2の層を前記生体適合材料の前記第1の層および前記電子部品の前記第2の表面に亘って形成すること、
前記生体適合材料の前記第2の層の一部を除去することにより前記電気接点を前記電子部品の前記第2の表面に露出させること、
前記電気接点を露出させた後、前記導電パターンを形成することであって、前記導電パターンは前記生体適合材料の前記第2の層上のセンサ電極および前記センサ電極と前記電気接点との間の電気的相互接点を規定する、前記形成すること、
前記生体適合材料の第3の層を前記導電パターンに亘って形成すること、ならびに
前記生体適合材料の前記第3の層の一部を除去することにより前記センサ電極を露出させることを備え、
