Description
湿式法で製造された保持材を準備した。すなわち、アルミナ繊維(アルミナ96質量%、シリカ4質量%)を主成分として含有し、有機バインダー(アクリル樹脂)及び無機バインダー(アルミナゾル、シリカゾル等)が添加された水性スラリーを調製し、当該水性スラリーを脱水成形することにより、無機繊維体である保持材を製造した。この保持材は、坪量が1400g/m2、嵩密度が0.15g/cm3であるマット状(375mm×90mm、厚さ9.3mm)であった。
外径110mmの円筒状であるセラミックス製の処理構造体と、上述のようにして準備した保持材と、内径118mmの円筒状であるステンレス製のケーシングと、を備えた気体処理装置を製造した。
図8に示すような試験装置50を使用して、キャニング後の押出力を評価した。この試験装置50は、処理構造体20の長手方向(気体が流通する方向)の一方側の端面に載置されたステンレス製の円板である押出用治具51と、当該押出用治具51を介して当該処理構造体20を当該長手方向の他方側(図8における下方)に押す棒状の押し棒52と、を備えていた。この試験装置50において、有機高分子40は、図8に示すように、ケーシング30の内表面31と接する保持材10の外表面11の一部に配置されていた。また、処理構造体20の外表面21及びケーシング30の外表面32に温度センサー(不図示)を取り付けた。
図9には、測定結果を示す。図9において、「ギャップ」欄の数値は、保持材とケーシングとの間隔(保持材の外表面とケーシングの内表面との距離)(mm)を示し、「ケーシング温度」欄の数値は、処理構造体の温度が「処理構造体温度」欄の温度(℃)である場合におけるケーシングの温度(℃)を示す。また、「冷却操作」欄における「あり」との記載は、送風装置を使用して、ケーシングの外表面の周囲に空気を流通させる強制対流による冷却操作を行ったことを示し、「なし」との記載は、当該冷却操作を行わなかったことを示す。なお、冷却操作を行わない条件は、エンジンにおいて排気ガス処理用に設けられた触媒コンバータの従来一般の使用条件に対応するものとして用いた。
有機高分子として、ポリエチレンに代えて、ポリ塩化ビニル(PVC)(軟化温度70℃、分解温度250℃)、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)(軟化温度250℃、分解温度300℃)、ポリ酢酸ビニル(PVAc)(軟化温度60℃、分解温度300℃)、ポリプロピレン(PP)(軟化温度170℃、分解温度400℃)又はポリイミド(PI)(軟化温度210℃、分解温度500℃)を使用した以外は、上述の実施例1と同様にして、当該有機高分子が外表面に配置された保持材及び当該保持材を備えた気体処理装置を製造した。
そして、図10に示すように、上述の実施例1と同様に、12種類の条件で押出荷重(N)を測定した。図10に示すように、5種類の有機高分子のいずれを使用した場合(実施例2−1〜2−6)においても、ケーシングの温度が当該有機高分子の軟化温度以上、分解温度未満であることによって、当該有機高分子を使用しない場合(比較例2−1〜2−6)に比べて押出荷重は大きかった。
図11に示すように、5種類の保持材を準備した。すなわち、実施例3−1では、上述の実施例1と同様に湿式法にて製造され有機高分子(PE)が外表面に配置された保持材を基部材として使用して、当該外表面に、さらにPET(軟化温度250℃、分解温度300℃)繊維製の不織布を積層することにより、図7に示すような、当該基部材及び繊維シートからなる保持材を製造した。なお、この保持材の外表面においては、有機高分子と不織布とを熱溶着により接着した。
上述のようにして準備した5種類の保持材を使用して、上述の実施例1と同様に気体処理装置を製造した。
そして、図11に示すように、上述の実施例1と同様に、5種類の条件で押出荷重(N)を測定した。図11に示すように、有機高分子及び/又は有機繊維製の繊維シートを使用した実施例3−1〜3−4の押出荷重は、当該有機高分子及び繊維シートを使用しなかった比較例3のそれに比べて高かった。特に、外表面に有機高分子(PE)が配置された保持材を使用した実施例3−1、実施例3−2及び実施例3−4の押出荷重は、比較例3のそれに比べて顕著に高かった。なお、実施例3−1及び実施例3−2においては、基部材の外表面に配置された有機高分子(PE)が加熱により軟化して、当該外表面から、繊維シートを構成する繊維の間を抜けてケーシング側に露出し、当該ケーシングの内面に接着していた。
Claims (2)
- 処理構造体と、前記処理構造体を収容する金属製のケーシングと、前記処理構造体と前記ケーシングとの間に配置される無機繊維製の保持材と、を備えた気体処理装置を使用して、600℃〜900℃の気体に含まれる有害物質及び/又は粒子を除去することにより前記気体を処理する方法であって、
前記保持材と前記ケーシングとの間に、有機高分子を、前記気体の処理中に前記保持材の外表面及び前記ケーシングの内表面と接するように配置し、
前記ケーシングを冷却することによって、前記気体の処理中における前記ケーシングの温度が、前記有機高分子のJIS K7206に準拠した方法により測定されるビカット軟化温度以上、前記有機高分子の分解温度未満であって、600℃以上、900℃以下の前記処理構造体の外表面の温度より400℃以上低く調節されることにより、前記有機高分子を分解することなく軟化させ前記保持材の前記外表面及び前記ケーシングの前記内表面に接着させて、前記気体を処理する
ことを特徴とする気体処理方法。 - 前記気体の処理中における前記ケーシングの温度は、60℃以上、500℃以下である
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の気体処理方法。
