(a)圧力反応容器中で、含水率が6重量%〜20重量%の木材をアセチル化液中に10℃〜120℃の温度で浸漬するステップ、
(b)上記容器中の圧力を上昇させて、10〜300分の間、2〜20バールとするステップ、
(c)過剰のアセチル化液を上記容器から除去するステップ、
(d)上記容器中に不活性流体を導入して、木材の内部温度が発熱(exotherm)を示し始めるまで該流体を循環および加熱し、発熱が完了するまで木材への熱の供給を制御して、木材の内部温度を170℃未満に保つステップ、
(e)上記循環流体を85℃〜150℃の温度に10〜30分の間加熱して2度目の発熱反応を開始させ、発熱が完了するまで木材への熱の供給を制御して、木材の内部温度を170℃未満に保つステップ、
(f)上記循環流体を除去して、アセチル化された木材を周囲温度まで冷ますステップを含む、木材をアセチル化する方法を提供する。

1級は、「高耐久性」と称され、すなわち、25年以上大地に接しても強度または質量の減少が微少である。例:チーク、ニセアカシア。
2級は、「耐久性」と称され、すなわち、15年を超えるが25年未満大地に接しても強度または質量の減少が微少である。例:アメリカンホワイトオーク、ベイスギ。
3級は「中程度に耐久性」と称され、すなわち、10年を超えるが15年未満大地に接しても強度または質量の減少が微少である。例:ヨーロッパカラマツ、サペリ。

水分11%の約0.4M3の粗く鋸引きされた複数のチリ産ニュージーランドマツ板を、15mmの支え棒(sticker)で垂直および水平に分離した。板は、長さが3.9メートル、厚さが55mm、幅が130mmであり、少しの心材と大半を占める辺材とで構成されていた。木材を、2.5立方メートルの液体の入る圧力反応容器中に充填した。この容器はガス循環ループを備えていた。
およそ0.4M3の粗く鋸引きされた12%の水分を含有する複数の南部イエローパインの板を、15mmの支え棒により垂直および水平に分離した。板は、長さ3.9メートル、厚さ40mm、幅140mmであり、少しの心材と辺材とで構成されていた。木材を、2.5M3の液体が入る圧力反応容器中に充填した。この反応容器はガス循環ループを備えていた。
Claims (5)
- a)0.27〜0.64の半径方向の収縮比R2/R1(R2はアセチル化後の半径方向の収縮であり、R1はアセチル化前の収縮である)、および
b)0.26〜0.48の接線方向の収縮比T2/T1(T2はアセチル化後の接線方向の収縮であり、T 1はアセチル化後の収縮である)
を有し、
幅が2cm〜30cm、厚さが2cm〜16cm、および長さが1.5メートル〜6.0メートルであり、
幾何学的中心において14重量%〜22重量%までアセチル化された、アセチル化された固形の木材。 - 前記比R2/R1が0.30〜0.58であり、かつ前記比T2/T1が0.29〜0.44である、請求項1に記載のアセチル化された固形の木材。
- 幅が2cm〜10cm、厚さが2cm〜10cm、および長さが1.5メートル〜4.0メートルである、請求項1に記載のアセチル化された固形の木材。
- 湿潤後の乾燥剛性の減少が10%未満である、アセチル化された固形の木材。
- 前記乾燥剛性の減少が8.6%以上である、請求項4に記載のアセチル化された固形の木材。
