Description
本出願は、参照により本明細書に組み込まれている、2009年11月11日に出願された米国特許仮出願第61/260324号の利益を主張するものである。
本明細書中において言及される全ての刊行物及び特許出願は、それぞれ個々の刊行物又は特許出願が参照により具体的且つ個別に示されて組み込まれる場合と同程度に、参照により本明細書に組み込まれる。
図1は、表層筋組織の収縮を引き起こすことなく深部筋組織の収縮を刺激するための既存技術を示している。この断面図に示すように、2つの別々の表面電極対又は表面電極群からのエネルギは、深部において協調的に結合される。各電極対又は電極群は、独自では収縮を引き起こすには弱すぎるとされるレベルのエネルギを与える。しかしながら、これら2つのエネルギは、目標領域において重なり合うと、その領域での筋収縮の閾値を超えるレベルのエネルギを作り出すように結合する。更に、表層感覚神経の領域において電流密度が低減されるため、この方法を用いることにより、不快さも低減できる。
Claims (15)
- 筋組織の収縮を刺激するためにエネルギの流れを対象者内に誘導するシステムであって、
前記対象者の表面の表面領域上に配置されるように適合され、且つ、前記対象者にエネルギを投与して、筋組織の収縮を刺激するように適合された第1及び第2の電極と、
前記第1及び第2の電極と通信していて、刺激エネルギを発生させることと、前記刺激エネルギを前記第1及び第2の電極に与えることと、を行うように構成された刺激制御ユニットと、
前記表面領域上において前記第1及び第2の電極を相互に仮想直線で連結する相互間領域を挟む2つの領域であり、前記表面領域上の2つの領域のうち、少なくとも一方の領域に配置される、かつ前記相互間領域に配置されることのないインピーダンス修正装置であって、当該配置された位置の前記対象者内の組織のインピーダンスを増やすことによって、前記第1及び第2の電極の間に与えられた刺激エネルギを、前記配置された位置から離れる方向であって、前記対象者内の刺激対象部へ向かう方向へと誘導するインピーダンス修正装置と、
を備えるシステム。 - 前記相互間領域を挟む2つの領域のうち、いずれか一方の領域側に前記刺激対象部が位置すると共に、いずれか他方の領域側に、前記インピーダンス修正装置を配置した、
請求項1に記載のシステム。 - 前記インピーダンス修正装置は、前記対象者内の前記組織の温度を下げることによって前記対象者内の前記組織のインピーダンスを増やすことに適合された冷却装置を備える、請求項1又は2に記載のシステム。
- 前記インピーダンス修正装置は、前記表面領域上の2つの領域であって、前記相互間領域を挟む2つの領域のうち両方の領域に配置され、当該配置されたいずれのインピーダンス修正装置も前記相互間領域に配置されていない、
請求項1から3のいずれか一項に記載のシステム。 - 前記インピーダンス修正装置は、前記表面領域上の2つの領域であって、前記相互間領域を挟む2つの領域のうち、いずれか一方の領域からいずれか他方の領域に至ることのないように配置されている、
請求項1から4のいずれか一項に記載のシステム。 - 前記インピーダンス修正装置は、前記表面領域上の2つの領域であって、前記相互間領域を挟む2つの領域のうちいずれか一方の領域に少なくとも一部が配置された第1のインピーダンス修正装置と、いずれか他方の領域に少なくとも一部が配置された第2のインピーダンス修正装置であって、前記第1のインピーダンス修正装置とは一体化していない第2のインピーダンス修正装置と、を備える、
請求項5に記載のシステム。 - 前記表面領域上に配置されるように適合されたハウジングであって、前記第1及び第2の電極を収容する前記ハウジングを更に含む、請求項1から6のいずれか一項に記載のシステム。
- 前記電極は、前記ハウジング内で、あらかじめ刺激パターンの形に構成されている、請求項7に記載のシステム。
- 前記ハウジングは更に、前記インピーダンス修正装置を備える、請求項7又は8に記載のシステム。
- 筋組織の収縮を刺激するためにエネルギの流れを対象者内に誘導するシステムであって、
前記対象者の表面の表面領域に配置されるように適合され、且つ、前記対象者にエネルギを投与して筋組織の収縮を刺激するための複数の電極をそれぞれ備える第1及び第2の電極セットと、
前記第1及び第2の電極セットと通信していて、刺激エネルギを発生させることと、前記刺激エネルギを前記第1及び第2の電極セットに与えることと、を行うように構成された刺激制御ユニットと、
当該インピーダンス修正装置が配置された位置の前記対象者内の組織のインピーダンスを増やすインピーダンス修正装置と、を備え、
前記表面領域上の2つの領域であって、前記表面領域上において前記第1の電極セットを相互に仮想直線で連結する第1相互間領域を挟む2つの領域のうち、いずれか一方の領域側に前記刺激対象部が位置すると共に、いずれか他方の領域側に前記インピーダンス修正装置を配置した、
又は、前記表面領域上の2つの領域であって、前記表面領域上において前記第2の電極セットを相互に仮想直線で連結する第2相互間領域を挟む2つの領域のうち、いずれか一方の領域側に前記刺激対象部が位置すると共に、いずれか他方の領域側に前記インピーダンス修正装置を配置した、
システム。 - 前記インピーダンス修正装置は、前記対象者内の前記組織の温度を下げることによって前記対象者内の前記組織のインピーダンスを増やすことに適合された冷却装置を備える、
請求項10に記載のシステム。 - 前記インピーダンス修正装置は、前記表面領域上の2つの領域であって、前記第1相互間領域を挟む2つの領域のうち、前記いずれか他方の領域側に配置された第1のインピーダンス修正装置と、前記表面領域上の2つの領域であって、前記第2相互間領域を挟む2つの領域のうち、前記いずれか他方の領域側に配置された第2のインピーダンス修正装置であって、前記第1のインピーダンス修正装置とは一体化していない第2のインピーダンス修正装置と、を備える、
請求項10又は11に記載のシステム。 - 前記対象者上に配置されるように適合されたハウジングであって、前記第1及び第2の電極セットを備える前記ハウジングを更に含む、請求項10から12のいずれか一項に記載のシステム。
- 前記電極セットは、前記ハウジング内で、あらかじめ刺激パターンの形に構成されている、請求項13に記載のシステム。
