Claims (9)
- 外観変更装置であって、該外観変更装置によって覆われる表面の視覚的外観を変更するための外観変更装置であり、
第一及び第二の向かい合って配置される光学的に透明な基板と、
前記第一及び第二の基板の間の空間が複数のセルに分割されるように前記第一及び第二の基板を相隔てるスペーサ構造と、
各セルにおける、複数の粒子が中に分散した光学的に透明な流体であって、前記粒子は電場の印加を通して前記流体中で移動可能である、光学的に透明な流体と、
第一及び第二の電極であって、前記電極への電圧の印加によって、複数のセルの各々の中の前記粒子の分布を、前記外観変更装置によって覆われる前記表面の外観が前記粒子の光学特性によって決定される第一の分散状態から、前記外観変更装置が光学的に透明になるように前記第一及び第二の電極の少なくとも一方の近傍に前記粒子が集められる第二の状態へと、同時に制御するように配置される、第一及び第二の電極と、
を有し、
前記第一及び第二の電極が前記第一の基板上に配置され、
前記第一の電極が、前記第一の基板上に形成される透明導電層として設けられるとともに、誘電体層によって覆われ、
各セルにおいて前記誘電体層は中に形成される凹部を持ち、
前記凹部は、前記第一の電極が露出される、又は少なくとも非常に薄い誘電体の残存層によってのみ覆われるように設けられる、外観変更装置。 - 各セルに対して、前記第二の状態における透明な部分の面積と、前記セルの総面積との比が70%よりも大きくなるように構成される、請求項1に記載の外観変更装置。
- 各セルの総面積が0.01mm2よりも大きい、請求項2に記載の外観変更装置。
- 前記第一及び第二の電極が少なくとも100のセルを同時に制御するように配置される、請求項1乃至3のいずれか一項に記載の外観変更装置。
- 前記第一及び第二の電極の少なくとも一方が、前記電極によって制御可能な前記セルの各々の周辺の部分に沿って前記スペーサ構造によって少なくとも部分的に覆われる、請求項1乃至4のいずれか一項に記載の外観変更装置。
- 前記スペーサ構造の少なくとも一部分が導電性であり、前記第二の電極を形成する、請求項1乃至4のいずれか一項に記載の外観変更装置。
- 前記凹部が前記セルの中央に位置する、請求項1乃至6のいずれか1項に記載の外観変更装置。
- 前記第一の電極の複数の部分を露出するために、各セルにおいて前記誘電体層は中に形成される複数の凹部を持つ、請求項1乃至7のいずれか1項に記載の外観変更装置。
- 外観変更装置であって、該外観変更装置によって覆われる表面の視覚的外観を変更するための外観変更装置を製造するための方法であって、
第一及び第二の電極が上に形成される第一の光学的に透明な基板を設けるステップと、
各セルによって占められる領域が前記第一及び第二の電極の一部分を含むように、前記基板上に複数のセルを形成するスペーサ構造を設けるステップと、
前記基板上に、前記第一の電極を誘電体層によって覆われた透明導電層として配置するとともに、前記第二の電極を配置するステップと、
前記各セルにおいて前記誘電体層中に凹部を形成するステップと、
前記セルの各々において、複数の粒子が中に分散した光学的に透明な流体であって、前記粒子は電場の印加を通して前記流体中で移動可能である、光学的に透明な流体を設けるステップと、
前記セルを覆う第二の光学的に透明な基板を配置するステップと、
前記第一の電極が露出される、又は少なくとも非常に薄い誘電体の残存層によってのみ覆われるように、各セルにおいて前記誘電体層の中に凹部を形成するステップと、
を有する方法。
