Description
Claims (9)
- パネル面の法線上の輝度と法線外の輝度とが非線形の関係を有し、空間光変調によって画像を表示する液晶表示パネルを含む表示装置であって、
上記法線を中心とする制限された視野角範囲から鑑賞する鑑賞者用の画像を主画像、上記法線を中心とする上記制限された視野角範囲外に位置する鑑賞者用の、上記主画像とは異なる画像を副画像、上記主画像および上記副画像の輝度に関するデータ値をそれぞれ主画像データ値および副画像データ値、上記液晶表示パネルの画素に含まれる色成分それぞれを画像要素、複数の上記画像要素から構成される一群の画像要素を画像要素グループとしたときに、
複数の上記画像要素はそれぞれ、上記主画像データ値、上記副画像データ値、および、上記液晶表示パネル内における上記画像要素の空間的な位置に関する情報を示す空間位置データ値を有し、
上記画像要素それぞれに対して、当該画像要素が有する上記主画像データ値、上記副画像データ値、および上記空間位置データ値から、上記画像要素に印加する信号電圧を示す出力データ値へのマッピングを行う表示制御手段を備えることを特徴とする表示装置。 - 上記副画像データ値は、上記主画像データ値が有する輝度と上記マッピングにより得られる上記出力データ値が有する輝度との差を制御する値であって、
上記画像要素グループの上記画像要素それぞれの有する上記主画像データ値が等しい場合に、
上記マッピングによって、上記画像要素グループ内の複数の上記画像要素において増加する輝度の量と、上記画像要素グループ内の他の画像要素において減少する輝度の量が略同一となり、
上記マッピングによりマッピングされた上記出力データ値が示す輝度を上記画像要素グループ内で空間的に平均化した輝度が、上記副画像データ値にかかわらず上記法線上において略同一となることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 上記副画像データ値は、上記主画像データ値が有する輝度と上記マッピングにより得られる出力データ値が有する輝度との差を制御する値であって、
上記画像要素グループの上記画像要素それぞれの有する上記主画像データ値が等しい場合に、
上記マッピングによって、上記画像要素グループ内の複数の上記画像要素において増加する輝度の量と、上記画像要素グループ内の他の画像要素において減少する輝度の量が略同一となり、
上記マッピングにより決定された上記出力データ値が示す輝度を、上記法線外の視野角において上記画像要素グループ内で空間的に平均化した輝度が、上記副画像データ値に依存することを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の表示装置。 - 上記法線外の視野角は、少なくとも50°を含むことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の表示装置。
- 上記表示制御手段によってマッピングされた上記出力データ値の示す輝度が、上記画像要素グループ内の少なくとも2つの隣接する上記画像要素間においてそれぞれ異なることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 上記画像要素グループに含まれる上記画像要素の数は可変であることを特徴とする請求項2から5のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 上記表示制御手段によるマッピングに用いられる上記主画像データ値に対して、当該主画像データ値に含まれる高周波成分にぼけを付加するフィルターをかけることを特徴とする請求項1から6のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 上記表示制御手段は、上記マッピングを行うためのメモリを備えることを特徴とする請求項1から7のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- パネル面の法線上の輝度と法線外の輝度とが非線形の関係を有し、空間光変調によって画像を表示する液晶表示パネルを含む表示装置の制御方法であって、
上記法線を中心とする制限された視野角範囲から鑑賞する鑑賞者用の画像を主画像、上記法線を中心とする上記制限された視野角範囲外に位置する鑑賞者用の、上記主画像とは異なる画像を副画像、上記主画像および上記副画像の輝度に関するデータ値をそれぞれ主画像データ値および副画像データ値、上記液晶表示パネルの画素に含まれる色成分それぞれを画像要素、複数の上記画像要素から構成される一群の画像要素を画像要素グループとしたときに、
複数の上記画像要素はそれぞれ、上記主画像データ値、上記副画像データ値、および、上記液晶表示パネル内における上記画像要素の空間的な位置に関する情報を示す空間位置データ値を有し、
上記画像要素それぞれに対して、当該画像要素が有する上記主画像データ値、上記副画像データ値、および上記空間位置データ値から、上記画像要素に印加する信号電圧を示す出力データ値へのマッピングを行うマッピングステップを含むことを特徴とする制御方法。
