Description
一方、対向基板1aに対しても、配向膜を塗布成膜したのち、同様な分割配向の工程を経た後、2つの基板1,1aを貼り合わせた。このとき、Aの領域およびBの領域の配向は図9のようにそれぞれ、アンチパラレルラビングになるように貼り合わせられた。このような構成の液晶表示装置では、電圧を印加したときの散乱強度の方向依存性が少なくなったことが確認できた。
Claims (4)
- 一対の基板の間に液晶層を挟持してなる散乱型の液晶装置において、
前記一対の基板のうち一方の基板の前記液晶層側にある面にフリンジフィールドを発生させるよう共通電極と櫛歯状の画素電極とを互いに絶縁状態で配置し、
前記一対の基板のそれぞれにて前記液晶層側の面に形成された配向膜に前記櫛歯状の画素電極の延設方向に対して垂直方向にアンチパラレルラビングが施され、
前記液晶層を正の誘電異方性を有するものにして電圧無印加時の液晶の配向方向を電圧印加時に発生する横電界と平行とし、
前記横電界を印加しない状態で前記液晶層が光透過状態を呈する一方、前記横電界を印加した状態では、前記櫛歯状の画素電極間に現れるドメインの間に屈折率の境界ができて光を強く散乱することにより前記液晶層が光散乱状態を呈する液晶装置。
- 前記一対の基板のうち一方の基板の前記液晶層と接していない面に光反射板もしくは黒色板を配置した請求項1記載の液晶装置。
- 前記一対の基板のうち一方の基板の前記液晶層側にある面に、光反射体もしくは黒色体を配置した請求項1記載の液晶装置。
- 前記共通電極が光反射性もしくは低反射性である請求項1記載の液晶装置。
