ここで、RDC、HDCはそれぞれ投薬チャンバの半径と高さ、RP1、HP1はそれぞれ第1の温度におけるペレットの半径と高さ、RP2、HP2はそれぞれ第2の温度におけるペレットの半径と高さである。本実施例では、投薬チャンバの容積は既知で不変とする。ペレットは相転移化合物からなるため、その体積は、温度の関数として変化する。ペレットが相転移化合物/薬物の混合物(プレシロール(Precirol:登録商標)/医薬)で、第1の温度が摂氏20度ないし23度、第2の温度が摂氏75度であれば、VP2=1.2・VP1(ここで、1.2は、摂氏23度に対する摂氏75度での熱膨張係数値の一例)となることがわかっている。すなわち、ペレットの体積は、室温から摂氏75度に加熱されると20%増大する。従って、空隙の体積は、VP2とVP1との差をとることで求められる(VP2−VP1=空隙の体積)。空隙の体積は、ペレットを体積VP1に形成することにより投薬チャンバ内で保たれる。この体積のペレット(いずれの形状でもよい)が、投薬チャンバ内のプランジャ上部に取り付けられる。
Claims (7)
- 混合物を眼内に注射するために注入装置を準備する方法であって、
前記混合物と投薬チャンバ容器とが室温付近にあるときに、前記混合物を前記混合物と投薬チャンバ容器内面との間に空隙を有するようにして投薬チャンバ内に供給し、
前記投薬チャンバ容器と混合物とを、前記混合物が膨張して液体状態となる、室温付近以外の温度範囲とし、
前記混合物の膨張後かつ前記装置を注射に用いる前に、針内部の空気と前記混合物とが眼内に注射可能なように前記針の内部に空気を保持し、
特定の薬物放出速度に対応する特定の表面積を有するように予め決定された注射時の前記混合物のボーラス形状に基づいて、薬物放出速度を選択し、
前記選択された薬物放出速度をもたらす表面積を有する形状を形成し得るように、前記注入装置を前記混合物の注射が可能な状態に維持する、
ことを特徴とする注入装置の準備方法。 - 前記供給される混合物は、親油性化合物と医薬との混合物である、ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の注入装置の準備方法。
- さらに、前記選択された薬物放出速度をもたらす表面積を有する形状を形成するためにプランジャの駆動速度を選択する、ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の注入装置の準備方法。
- 前記プランジャの駆動速度は、毎分15−36cmの速度とされる、ことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の注入装置の準備方法。
- 前記プランジャの駆動速度は、使用中、眼内に略球形状のボーラスが沈着するように毎分約20cmの速度とされる、ことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の注入装置の準備方法。
- 前記注入装置は、25ゲージ以下の針を備える、ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の注入装置の準備方法。
- 前記混合物と投薬チャンバ容器とを前記混合物が膨張してより液体状となる温度範囲に加熱する工程において、さらに、前記投薬チャンバ容器と混合物とをおよそ摂氏75度に加熱する、ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の注入装置の準備方法。
