Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an improvement of a wet grinding apparatus that grinds the surface of a flat member made of a material such as metal, glass, quartz, or ceramics in the presence of a coolant, and a grinding wheel segment used in such an apparatus. is there.
In flatly grinding the surface of a flat plate member made of materials such as metal, glass, quartz, ceramics, etc., the workpiece (grinding object) must be placed between the grinding wheels attached to the upper and lower surface plates. This is done by sandwiching and rotating the surface plate in the opposite direction with a predetermined load applied. As the grindstone used at this time, a so-called resin bond grindstone obtained by bonding abrasive grains such as alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) or silicon carbide (SiC) with a resin is used. As the abrasive grains, oxides such as ZrO and TiO 2 and fine powders such as diamond may be used in addition to the above.
In the grinding process as described above, since both surfaces of the workpiece are ground at the same time, not only high flatness can be realized, but also the thickness uniformity is high.
The grinding process as described above is generally performed in a wet manner while continuously supplying a solution called a coolant containing a surfactant and a lubricant (hereinafter referred to as “coolant”) to the processing region. is there. The main roles of this coolant are (a) removing heat generated by machining, (b) maintaining the quality of the machined surface by controlling the friction between the grinding wheel and the workpiece, and (c) grinding debris and dropping off. By efficiently removing the abrasive grains from the processing location, it is possible to control the generation of wrinkles and clogging of the grindstone to prevent the processing speed from decreasing.
A configuration of an apparatus (wet grinding apparatus) for performing the above grinding process will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a schematic explanatory view showing a configuration example of a wet grinding apparatus, in which 1 is an upper surface plate, 2 is a lower surface plate, 3 is a surface plate rotating shaft, 4 is a workpiece, and 5 is a workpiece. 6 and 7 are called sun gears and ring gears, respectively, have rotation centers that coincide with the surface
In the apparatus configuration as described above, a pair of upper and lower surface plates (
The

As shown in FIG. 2, the
In this way, after the
Since grinding using the apparatus as described above is performed while supplying the
For this reason, there has been proposed a related technique for efficiently discharging grinding scraps and detached abrasive grains from the surface of the grinding wheel segment by devising the shape and arrangement of the grinding wheel segment (for example, Patent Document 1). reference). In addition, a technique has been proposed in which a grinding wheel segment that extends obliquely in the width direction is formed on the grinding wheel segment so that grinding scraps and falling abrasive grains dispersed in the
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a wet grinding apparatus capable of efficiently discharging the grinding scraps and falling abrasive grains dispersed in the coolant to the outside and avoiding clogging on the surface of the grindstone, and such It is to provide a grinding wheel segment used in a wet grinding apparatus.

According to the present invention, there is also provided a grinding wheel segment having:
A first surface plate having a first surface and rotatable about a rotation axis in a first direction, the first surface plate communicating with the first surface, and having at least one first hole capable of supplying a coolant. A second surface plate having a second surface opposite to the first surface and rotatable about the rotation axis in a second direction opposite to the first direction; and each having a substantially fan shape A grinding wheel segment provided in a wet grinding apparatus having a first grinding wheel segment arranged in a disk shape and attached to the first surface, wherein:

It has a substantially fan shape, is a part of a disk-shaped grinding wheel, and extends between both end edges in the second direction along a circle centered on the rotation axis including a position facing the first hole A grinding wheel segment in which at least one groove is formed.
In the present invention, in the substantially fan-shaped grinding wheel segment arranged in a disk shape and attached to the lower surface plate, the area corresponding to the rotation trajectory of the coolant supply hole in the grinding wheel segment is centered on the surface plate rotation axis. Or a tangential coolant outflow groove that contacts the arc in the same segment, or a coolant outflow groove in which a plurality of tangent lines are continuous in a polygonal line is formed over the entire width of the grinding wheel segment, thereby being dispersed in the coolant. Grinding scraps and falling abrasive grains can be efficiently discharged to the outside, and a wet grinding apparatus capable of avoiding clogging on the grinding wheel segment surface is realized.
The inventors have studied in detail the mechanism of clogging of grinding wheels when wet grinding of an aluminum substrate for magnetic disks is performed. As a result, it has been found that clogging does not occur in the entire grinding wheel, and clogging does not occur irregularly, but clogging is likely to occur at a specific portion of the grinding wheel. It was also found that clogging of the grinding wheel occurs more frequently on the lower grinding wheel than on the upper side, and has a good correlation with the coolant supply position. Such a situation will be described with reference to the drawings. In addition, the same code | symbol is attached | subjected to the structure same as the related technology mentioned above, and description is abbreviate | omitted.
FIG. 4A is a schematic plan view seen from above the
A hole 15 (see FIG. 2) is formed in the
In such a configuration, clogging of the grinding wheel corresponds to the
When the present inventors examined the cause of such a phenomenon, the following knowledge was obtained. First, the coolant flows from the top to the bottom under the influence of gravity, so it is considered that clogging of the grinding wheel due to grinding scraps and falling abrasive grains is likely to occur in the
Specifically, since the
In view of this situation, a configuration for preventing clogging of the grinding wheel based on the above-described mechanism was examined from various angles. As a result, if an arc-shaped groove (hereinafter referred to as “coolant outflow groove”) around the rotation axis of the upper surface plate is formed in the entire width of the grinding wheel segment in the region corresponding to the coolant supply hole, We found that the objective was achieved.
FIG. 5 is a plan view showing a configuration example of a grinding wheel segment used in the present invention. In the
The coolant flow when the coolant outflow groove 18 (or 18a, 18b) is formed in the
As shown in FIG. 8, arc-shaped or tangential
With the above operation, fresh coolant is efficiently supplied to the surface of the grinding wheel, and the
The
The groove width of the
It is preferable that the distance between the grinding
Regarding the positional relationship between the
