Claims (14)
- 4つ以上の原色を用いて垂直配向モードで表示を行う多原色液晶表示装置に用いられ、入力された映像信号を4つ以上の原色に対応した多原色信号に変換する信号変換回路であって、
多原色液晶表示装置の画素がマクベスチャートにおけるダークスキンを表示するための多原色信号を生成する際には、ダークスキンを表示するためのサブ画素の輝度の複数の組み合わせのうちから1つの組み合わせを選択することによって、画素を正面方向から見たときの色度を示すCIE1976色度座標(u', v')と、画素を斜め60°方向から見たときの色度を示すCIE1976色度座標(u60', v60')とによって規定される色差Δu'v'=((u'-u60')2+(v'-v60')2)が0.03以下となるように映像信号の変換を行う、信号変換回路。 - 多原色液晶表示装置の画素がマクベスチャートにおけるダークスキンを表示するための多原色信号を生成する際には、前記色差Δu'v'が0.008以下となるように映像信号の変換を行う、請求項1に記載の信号変換回路。
- 多原色液晶表示装置の画素がマクベスチャートにおけるライトスキンを表示するための多原色信号を生成する際には、前記色差Δu'v'が0.01以下となるように映像信号の変換を行う、請求項1または2に記載の信号変換回路。
- 4つ以上の原色を用いて垂直配向モードで表示を行う多原色液晶表示装置に用いられ、入力された映像信号を4つ以上の原色に対応した多原色信号に変換する信号変換回路であって、
多原色液晶表示装置の画素がマクベスチャートにおけるライトスキンを表示するための多原色信号を生成する際には、ライトスキンを表示するためのサブ画素の輝度の複数の組み合わせのうちから1つの組み合わせを選択することによって、画素を正面方向から見たときの色度を示すCIE1976色度座標(u', v')と、画素を斜め60°方向から見たときの色度を示すCIE1976色度座標(u60', v60')とによって規定される色差Δu'v'=((u'-u60')2+(v'-v60')2)が0.01以下となるように映像信号の変換を行う、信号変換回路。 - 多原色液晶表示装置の画素がマクベスチャートにおけるライトスキンを表示するための多原色信号を生成する際には、前記色差Δu'v'が0.008以下となるように映像信号の変換を行う、請求項3または4に記載の信号変換回路。
- 表示に用いられる原色の数をnとしたとき、入力された映像信号に基づいてルックアップテーブルを参照することによって、n個の原色のうちの(n−3)個の原色の輝度を得て、前記(n−3)個の原色の輝度を用いた演算を行うことによって前記n個の原色のうちの残りの3個の原色の輝度を算出する、請求項1から5のいずれかに記載の信号変換回路。
- 前記ルックアップテーブルを格納するルックアップテーブルメモリと、
前記演算を行う演算部と、を備える請求項6に記載の信号変換回路。 - 請求項1から7のいずれかに記載の信号変換回路と、前記信号変換回路によって生成された多原色信号が入力される液晶表示パネルと、を備える多原色液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶表示パネルは、第1基板と、前記第1基板に対向する第2基板と、前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に設けられた垂直配向型の液晶層と、を備え、それぞれが前記4つ以上の原色のそれぞれを表示する複数のサブ画素を有し、
前記複数のサブ画素のそれぞれは、前記第1基板の液晶層側に設けられた第1電極と、前記第2基板に設けられ前記液晶層を介して前記第1電極に対向する第2電極と、を含み、
前記複数のサブ画素のそれぞれにおいて、前記液晶層に所定の電圧が印加されたとき、液晶分子が傾斜する方位が互いに異なる複数の領域が形成される請求項8に記載の多原色液晶表示装置。 - 前記液晶表示パネルは、
前記液晶層の前記第1電極側に設けられた第1配向規制手段と、
前記液晶層の前記第2電極側に設けられた第2配向規制手段と、を備える請求項9に記載の多原色液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1配向規制手段がリブであり、前記第2配向規制手段は前記第2電極に設けられたスリットである請求項10に記載の多原色液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1配向規制手段が第1リブであり、前記第2配向規制手段は第2リブである請求項10に記載の多原色液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1配向規制手段が前記第1電極に設けられた第1スリットであり、前記第2配向規制手段は前記第2電極に設けられた第2スリットである請求項10に記載の多原色液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1電極は、所定の位置に形成された少なくとも1つの開口部または切欠き部を有し、
前記複数のサブ画素のそれぞれにおいて、前記液晶層に所定の電圧が印加されたとき、それぞれが軸対称配向を呈する複数の液晶ドメインが形成される請求項9に記載の多原色液晶表示装置。
