Description
感圧接着剤付きフィルムは、装飾の目的で画像形成され、基材に接合される。例えば、大きなグラフィックスや小さなデカールが車両に配置されたり、識別、宣伝や装飾の目的でサインとして用いられている。しかしながら、これらの用途に用いられる粘性の攻撃的な感圧接着剤には、取扱い上および適用上、かなりの問題がある。フィルムはコンフォーマルに、そして均一に適用基材へ接合されるのが理想的である。僅かに接触させて接合する、接着剤付き物品は、基材の所望でない位置に接合してしまった場合に、再適用するのが特に難しいことが多い。さらに、接着剤付き物品の一部分が基材に適切に配置され、フィルムがしっかりと接合していた場合であっても、空気その他流体が物品にトラップされる場合がある。トラップされた空気は物品中に泡を形成し、剥脱したり、物品に穿孔することなしに容易に除去することができない。
ナイフまたはバーコーティングプロセスを用いる接着剤付き物品の製造中に接着剤を構造化剥離ライナに適用すると、接着剤は、剥離ライナ表面の構造に流れ、構造間のランドエリアを埋める。このプロセスにおいて、コーティング速度を制御して、剥離ライナの構造間のランドエリアにおいて、個々のセル状領域に流れると接着剤に気泡がトラップまたは凝集するのを防がなければならない。トラップされた空気は、コートされた接着層の性能を下げ、特に高解像度の画像についてはフィルム層の外観および印刷性を減じる恐れがある。これらの欠陥は、接着剤付き物品に基づく製品の全体の外観を損なう。さらに、コーティング速度が減じると経済的ではなく、製造コストが増大する。
図4を参照すると、図3のコーティングプロセス中のランドエリア23により分離された突条状構造28を含む図2の剥離ライナ26の一部を示す。液体接着剤溶液75が方向Dへ進み、ライナ26の全表面をコートして、実質的に連続した接着層を作製する。コーティング速度が速いと、液体接着剤75の前縁91が突条状構造28に進むにつれて、気泡が構造28の前の領域90にトラップされる恐れがある。さらに、前縁91が構造28に進み、ランドエリア23を埋め始めると、気泡が構造28背後の領域92でトラップされる恐れもある。
ライナおよび接着剤試料を、JENA JENAVERT(Jena、ドイツ)入射光顕微鏡またはBausch and Lomb立体顕微鏡(Bausch&Lomb、Rochester、NY)による光学顕微鏡、またはWYKO RST表面型彫機(WYKO Corp.,Tucson、AZ)を用いたインターフェロメトリー顕微鏡を用いて評価した。
泡係数試験:ライナにコートされ乾燥された接着層を、3.8mm×3.8mm平方の切抜き領域を有するテンプレートを通して低倍率で可視光顕微鏡で見る。泡の数を数え、サイズを評価する。少なくとも3箇所の代表的な領域において試験を繰り返し、泡の平均数を計算する。この試験はまた、フィルムを接着層にラミネーションし、ライナを除去した後でも行うことができる。
0:試料はトラップされた空気に対してほとんどインデントに沿っていない。
1:試料は約50%の範囲でインデントに押し付けられる。
2:試料は小さな気泡を残してインデントの大半に沿うように押し付けられる。
3:試料は、徐々に(5秒以上かかる)そして完全にインデントに沿うように押し付けられる。
4:試料は、即時に(5秒未満で)そして完全にインデントに沿うように押し付けられる。
剥離ライナにマイクロエンボス加工して、前側表面に突出する突条のパターンを形成した。ライナは約125c cm紙芯、裏側がマット仕上げの約25c cmポリエチレン、前側が光沢仕上げの25c cmポリエチレン、光沢ポリエチレン側に市販のシリコーンコーティングを有していた。パターンの各組は、銅版刷エンボス加工ツールを用いて、熱および圧力をかけて形成された。各銅版刷パターンは、2組の交差する平行溝の配列であり、ツールの軸から45度で配向した正方形格子配列を形成している。マイクロエンボス加工突条のない比較試料もまた評価した。平均寸法を以下の表1に示す。断面の顕微鏡検査により側壁傾きを求めた。
Claims (3)
- 表面に接着剤を適用することを含むコーティング方法において、
前記表面に構造群が配置され、該構造群が、約250μm〜約1300μmのピッチで該表面の平面から上方に延びて該表面に実質的に連続するパターンを形成するとともに、選択されたレオロジーのコーティング溶液に対する気泡の形成を減じるために選択された角度であって、約30°〜約50°の角度を、該表面の該平面に対して成す、少なくとも1つの側壁を有すること、
を特徴とするコーティング方法。
- 前記構造群が、実質的に連続する実質的に規則的なパターンを前記表面に形成する複数の突状である、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記複数の突状が、実質的平坦な上面を備えた実質的台形の断面形状を有する、請求項2に記載の方法。
