Description
図4bでは、制御チャネルをワイヤレスコンピューティングデバイス220の低電力トランシーバ100とホストトランシーバ212の間に存在するように示し、これを稲妻形の矢印222によって表現する。この状態では、ホストトランシーバ212は、低電力トランシーバ100のプレゼンス、および、これら2つがデータおよび制御信号を互いに交換できることを承知している。制御チャネル222は、ワイヤレスコンピューティングデバイス220の電源が主としてオフにされているかオンにされているかにかかわらず、アクティブのまま残り、あるいは代わりに、このデバイスが非アイドルである、すなわち、電源が主としてオンにされているとき、上で論じたように電源を落とすことができる。一般に、コンピューティングデバイス220は、ネットワークを介したアクティビティに従事していないとき、またはユーザによる動作中でないとき、オフである。このワイヤレスコンピューティングデバイスの動作状態では、ネットワークまたはユーザのアクティビティがないためにデバイスの電源が著しく落とされるか、あるいは完全に停止され、この状態がアイドル状態として知られる。
図6aでは、低電力トランシーバ302を動作する第1のワイヤレスコンピューティングデバイス300を、ホストトランシーバ308を動作するホストコンピュータ306との通信をサポートするために適切な直接範囲の外にあるように示す。そういうものとして、低電力トランシーバ302は、以前に記載したように、サーバ304に登録してそのプレゼンス情報を、ネットワーク310を介して他のデバイスに搬送可能にすることができない。しかし、本発明の一実施形態によれば、第1のワイヤレスコンピューティングデバイス300は、図6bおよび対応する図7の流れ図に例示するように、マルチホップネットワーキングを使用してサーバ304と通信することができる。具体的には、低電力トランシーバデバイス314を動作する第2のワイヤレスコンピューティングデバイス312が、ホストトランシーバ308を動作するホストコンピュータ306の範囲内であるとき、デバイス312がブリックサーバ305に登録される(図7のイベント400)。続いて、低電力制御チャネル316が、第2のコンピューティングデバイス312とホストトランシーバ使用可能デバイス306の間で確立される。

Claims (1)
- 通信ネットワークにアクセス可能なワイヤレスの第1のコンピュータデバイスをウェイクアップする方法であって、
(a)前記ワイヤレスの第1のコンピュータデバイスは高電力モードで前記通信ネットワークの直接的にアクセス可能であり、低電力モードではスリープモードに入り、
(b)第2のコンピュータデバイスが1つのアクセスポイントで前記通信ネットワークに接続されており、前記第2のコンピュータデバイスは前記低電力モードにあるワイヤレスの第1のコンピュータの存在およびID情報を検出し、
(c)サーバが前記通信ネットワークに接続されており、該サーバは、前記第2のコンピュータデバイスにより検出されたワイヤレスの第1のコンピュータデバイスの存在情報およびID情報と、前記第2のコンピュータデバイスのID情報を保存しており、
(d)第3のコンピュータデバイスが前記通信ネットワークに接続されており、
(e)前記第3のコンピュータデバイスにより、前記サーバから、前記ワイヤレスの第1のコンピュータデバイスの存在情報および当該ワイヤレスの第1のコンピュータデバイスの存在を検出した第2のコンピュータデバイスのID情報を、取得するステップと、
(f)当該取得したID情報の示す第2のコンピュータデバイスに対して、前記第3のコンピュータデバイスにより、当該第2のコンピュータデバイスがその存在を検出したワイヤレスの第1のコンピュータデバイスをウェイクアップするように要求するステップと、
(g)当該要求を受信した第2のコンピュータデバイスにより、該第2のコンピュータデバイスがその存在を検出したワイヤレスの第1のコンピュータデバイスを、ウェイクアップ信号を低電力モードの第1のコンピュータデバイスに転送することにより、ウェイクアップするステップと、
(h)前記ワイヤレスの第1のコンピュータデバイスにより、前記ウェイクアップ信号の受信に応答して前記低電力モードから前記高電力モードに切り替えるステップとを備え、
(i)前記第1のコンピュータデバイスが前記第2のコンピュータデバイスの直接無線範囲外である場合に、第4のコンピュータデバイスが前記前記第2のコンピュータデバイスの直接無線範囲内であるとき、前記第4のコンピュータデバイスにより、低電力モードの前記第1のコンピュータデバイスと前記第2のコンピュータデバイスとの通信をおこなうことを特徴とする方法。
