Description
前記液晶パネルの外側に配置された一対の円偏光部材と、前記一対の円偏光部材の一方の円偏光部材の外側に配置されたバックライトと、を具備し、
前記反射領域は、前記液晶パネルのバックライト配置側と反対側からの外光を反射する反射部材を備えており、前記反射領域は、前記反射部材の前記バックライト側に位相差形成手段を備えていることを特徴とする。
図2は、本発明の実施の形態1に係る半透過型液晶表示装置の概略構成を示す断面図である。なお、図2においては、実際には、電極、カラーフィルター、配向膜などの電子素子や光学素子が存在するが、説明を簡単にするために、これらの記載を省略している。
本実施の形態においては、液晶パネルの反射領域に設けられた位相差形成手段の他の例について説明する。本実施の形態では、位相差形成手段にインセルリターダーを用いた場合について説明する。

Claims (4)
- 互いに対向させた一対の基体間に液晶材料が封入されており、前記一対の基体の一方の基体上に形成された画素がそれぞれ透過領域及び反射領域を有する液晶パネルを備えた半透過型液晶表示装置であって、
前記液晶パネルの外側に配置された一対の円偏光部材と、前記一対の円偏光部材の一方の円偏光部材の外側に配置されたバックライトとを具備し、
前記反射領域は、前記液晶パネルのバックライト配置側と反対側からの外光を反射する反射部材を備えており、前記反射領域は、前記反射領域のみに前記反射部材の前記バックライト側に位相差形成手段を備え、前記一対の基体のバックライト配置側の基体の前記液晶パネル内側の主面上に形成される段差部材と、前記バックライト配置側の基体の前記液晶パネル外側の主面の前記段差部材の形成領域に対応する領域上に形成されるリターダーとで構成されている位相差形成手段を備え、
前記位相差形成手段は、円偏光が反射により2度通過することにより通過する前の円偏光の方向と同じ方向となる機能を有していることを特徴とする半透過型液晶表示装置。 - 前記リターダーは、前記一対の基体のバックライト配置側の基体の前記液晶パネル外側の主面における前記反射領域上に設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記リターダーは、λ/ 4 分位相を遅らせるリターデーション膜又は位相差フィルムであることを特徴とする請求項2記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記一対の円偏光部材は、それぞれ逆向きの円偏光板であることを特徴とする請求項1から請求項3のいずれかに記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
