Description
本出願は、2005年7月11日出願の米国仮特許出願第60/698,106号に基づく優先権の利益を主張する。
本発明は、一般には、反応器に関する。より特定的には、本発明は、化学的プロセスおよび生物学的プロセスに使用するのに好適な充填床反応器に関する。
充填反応器は、化学工業、製薬工業、廃棄物処理工業、および発酵工業においてさまざまなプロセスに広く使用される。一般には、充填材は、選択された特定の充填材の表面積対体積比に基づいて反応器内部の表面積を増大させる。通常、充填材の表面積は、微生物のような反応促進剤を生物学的反応器内に結合させうる表面または化学触媒のような反応促進剤を化学反応器内に結合させうる表面を提供する。生物学的であるか化学的であるかにかかわらず、反応プロセスは、通常、反応物と反応促進剤との接触および接触時間に依存するので、反応器容積内でより大きい表面積を反応促進剤に提供すれば、反応器サイズの削減が促進されて経費節約につながる。したがって、表面積対体積比が大きくなるほど、特定のプロセスに必要とされる反応器容積は小さくなる。
特許文献8および特許文献9には、バイオレメディエーション用または有機混入物質用の固定床反応器が記載されている。この反応器は、ポリウレタンフォームのような基材(前記基材上、前記基材中、または前記基材全体に嫌気性微生物と汚染物質用の吸収剤とを有する)を有する微粒子から形成されたバイオマスを含む。
本発明は、化学工業、製薬工業、廃棄物減量処理工業、発酵工業、および関連工業においてさまざまな用途に好適な充填床反応器を提供する。充填床の実施形態は、交互充填材層により特徴付けられる。充填床反応器は、床を貫通する圧力低下の低減、床を貫通するチャネリングの減少、ひいては反応器滞留時間分布の改良を提供する。滞留時間分布の改良は、処理済みプロセスストリームの流出の品質管理に関してならびに反応器サイズの減少の可能性および経費の削減に関して顕著な効果を有する。

実施例
多孔性バイオマス支持体すなわちポリウレタンフォームと併用したときのオープンボディースペーサーの配置の影響を評価すべく、一連の実験を行った。
イエガー・プロダクツ社(Jaeger Products,Inc.)からハイフロー(HiFlow)という商品名で剛性オープンシリンダー(プラスチック)を入手した。このオープンシリンダーを生分解実験でオープンボディー充填材要素として使用した。生物学的活性ボディーは、フォーメックス社(Foamex,Inc.)からSIF IIという商品名で入手した疎水性ポリウレタンフォーム(PUF)であった。このフォームは、反応物を基準にして75重量%のポリオール含有率(約40重量%のエチレンオキシドおよび60重量%のプロピレンオキシド)ならびに約25〜35重量%のトルエンジイソシアネート含有率を有していた。フォームは、1インチあたり15〜20個の細孔を有し、細孔は、さまざまなサイズであった。
これらの3つのバイオリアクターに次の成分および濃度からなる同一のモデル廃水供給物を仕込んだ:ナトリウムN−コシル−N−メチルタウレート(sodium n−cocyl−n−methyltaurate)、100mg/L;イゲパル(Igepal)CO−630(ノニルフェノールエチレンオキシド)、100mg/L;ウレア、1000mg/L;クレアチニン、200mg/L;カプロラクタム、20mg/L;エタノール、50mg/L;ベンジルアルコール、20mg/L;およびリン酸二水素ナトリウム、25mg/L。
対照であるオープンボディー充填材要素と多孔性バイオマス支持体とのランダム分散系のバルク除去効率を、同一の支持体と同一の充填材要素との交互層を有する本発明の一実施形態に係る反応器床のバルク除去効率と比較するために、他の一連の廃水処理バイオレメディエーション試験を行った。
Claims (9)
- 一連の交互充填材層(116、120)を含む充填床反応器(100)であって、
前記交互充填材層が、
オープンボディー充填材要素を含む第1の充填材層(120)と、
1線インチあたり(ppi)15〜20(1線cmあたり6〜8)のサイズ範囲内の細孔を含む多孔性支持体要素に支持された微生物を含む第2の充填材層(116)と、
を含み、該多孔性支持体要素の表面積対体積比が該オープンボディー充填材要素の表面積対体積比より大きい、反応器。 - 前記第1の充填材層(120)のオープンボディー充填材が円筒状充填材を含む、請求項1に記載の反応器。
- 前記第1の充填材層(120)が70〜95%の範囲内のボイド空間を有する、請求項1に記載の反応器。
- 前記第1の層(120)がオープンボディー充填材要素の単層を含む、請求項1に記載の反応器。
- 前記第2の層(116)の多孔性支持体要素(110)が、35〜210ft2/ft3(115〜700m2/m3)の表面積対体積比を有するフォームを含む、請求項1に記載の反応器。
- 前記第2の層(116)の多孔性支持体要素(110)が、15〜25%のボイド空間を有するフォームを含む、請求項1に記載の反応器。
- 前記第2の層(116)の多孔性支持体要素(110)が疎水性フォームの多孔性支持体要素を含む、請求項1に記載の反応器。
- 前記第2の層(116)の多孔性支持体要素(110)がポリウレタンフォームの多孔性支持体要素を含む、請求項1に記載の反応器。
- 前記第2の層(116)の多孔性支持体要素(110)が前記オープンボディー充填材要素の表面積対体積比の5〜20倍の表面積対体積比を有する、請求項1に記載の反応器。
