洗車機本体内に被洗浄車両の前後面と側面を洗浄する一対の側面洗浄ブラシを設け、前記一対の側面洗浄ブラシにそれぞれ前記被洗浄車両の側面形状に応じて側面外方へ揺動する揺動機構を備え、前記被洗浄車両と前記洗車機本体を相対移動させながら前記一対の側面洗浄ブラシにより前記被洗浄車両の前後面と側面を洗浄する洗車機における洗浄方法であって、
前記一対の側面洗浄ブラシをそれぞれ、前記被洗浄車両の前面または後面の中心部から側部へ接触する方向へ回転させながら、共に、前記被洗浄車両の前面または後面の中心部から前記被洗浄車両の前面または後面に沿って一方の方向に移動させて前記被洗浄車両の前面または後面の一方の面を洗浄し、
前記一対の側面洗浄ブラシが前記被洗浄車両の前面または後面の一方の端部に到達すると、前記被洗浄車両の中心側に位置する側面洗浄ブラシのみを車両の中心方向へ移動させ、
