Description
観察側とその反対側とにそれぞれ偏光板を備えた液晶表示素子と、
光の出射面を有し、前記出射面から、予め定めた方向に偏光面を有する直線偏光と非偏光のそれぞれ予め定めた広がりの範囲を持った光を選択的に出射する光源部と、前記光源部の出射側に配置され、予め定めた形状に形成した複数の第1の位相差部と第2の位相差部とを少なくとも一方の方向に交互に並べて配列した一方の位相差層と、前記一方の位相差層に間隔をおいて対向配置され、前記第1及び第2の位相差部にそれぞれ対応する形状に形成した複数の第3の位相差部と第4の位相差部とを前記第3の位相差部を前記第1の位相差部に対応させ、前記第4の位相差部を前記第2の位相差部に対応させて配列した他方の位相差層とを有し、前記光源部から出射した前記直線偏光に対する前記第1と第3の位相差部の合計位相差及び前記第2と第4の位相差部の合計位相差をそれぞれ前記直線偏光の偏光面を実質的に90°回転させる値に設定し、前記直線偏光に対する前記第1と第4の位相差部の合計位相差及び前記第2と第3の位相差部の合計位相差をそれぞれ前記直線偏光の偏光面を実質的に180°回転させる値に設定した位相差素子とからなり、前記液晶表示素子の観察側とは反対側に、前記位相差素子を前記液晶表示素子に対向させ、且つ前記光源部から出射する前記直線偏光の偏光面を前記液晶表示素子の観察側とは反対側の偏光板の透過軸と実質的に直交にして配置され、前記光源部から前記位相差素子の法線方向に出射した前記直線偏光を、前記位相差素子の前記第1と第3の位相差部及び第2と第4の位相差部により、前記光源部から出射した前記直線偏光の偏光面に対して実質的に直交する偏光面を持った直線偏光からなる第1の照明光にして前記液晶表示素子に向けて出射し、前記光源部から前記第1と第4の位相差部を透過する方向、及び前記第2と第3の位相差部を透過する方向へそれぞれ斜めに出射した前記直線偏光を、前記第1と第4の位相差部及び前記第2と第3の位相差部により、前記光源部から出射した前記直線偏光の偏光面と実質的に平行な偏光面を持った直線偏光からなる第2の照明光にして前記液晶表示素子に向けて出射し、前記光源部から出射した非偏光の光を、前記予め定めた広がりの範囲を持った非偏光の光からなる第3の照明光として前記液晶表示素子に向けて出射することを特徴とする面光源と、
を備えたことを特徴とする。
Claims (4)
- 光の出射面を有し、前記出射面から、予め定めた方向に偏光面を有する直線偏光と非偏光のそれぞれ予め定めた広がりの範囲を持った光を選択的に出射する光源部と、
前記光源部の出射側に配置され、予め定めた形状に形成した複数の第1の位相差部と第2の位相差部とを少なくとも一方の方向に交互に並べて配列した一方の位相差層と、前記一方の位相差層に間隔をおいて対向配置され、前記第1及び第2の位相差部にそれぞれ対応する形状に形成した複数の第3の位相差部と第4の位相差部とを前記第3の位相差部を前記第1の位相差部に対応させ、前記第4の位相差部を前記第2の位相差部に対応させて配列した他方の位相差層とを有し、前記光源部から出射した前記直線偏光に対する前記第1と第3の位相差部の合計位相差及び前記第2と第4の位相差部の合計位相差をそれぞれ前記直線偏光の偏光面を実質的に90°回転させる値に設定し、前記直線偏光に対する前記第1と第4の位相差部の合計位相差及び前記第2と第3の位相差部の合計位相差をそれぞれ前記直線偏光の偏光面を実質的に180°回転させる値に設定した位相差素子とからなり、
前記光源部から前記位相差素子の法線方向に出射した前記直線偏光を、前記位相差素子の前記第1と第3の位相差部及び第2と第4の位相差部により、前記光源部から出射した前記直線偏光の偏光面に対して実質的に直交する偏光面を持った直線偏光からなる第1の照明光にして出射し、前記光源部から前記第1と第4の位相差部を透過する方向、及び前記第2と第3の位相差部を透過する方向へそれぞれ斜めに出射した前記直線偏光を、前記第1と第4の位相差部及び前記第2と第3の位相差部により、前記光源部から出射した前記直線偏光の偏光面と実質的に平行な偏光面を持った直線偏光からなる第2の照明光にして出射し、前記光源部から出射した非偏光の光を、前記予め定めた広がりの範囲を持った非偏光の光からなる第3の照明光として出射することを特徴とする面光源。 - 光源部は、光を入射させる入射部と前記入射部から入射した光を出射する出射面とを有し、前記入射部から入射した光を導いて前記出射面から出射する導光手段と、前記導光手段の前記入射部に対向させて配置され、選択的に点灯される第1と第2の発光素子と、前記第1と第2の発光素子のいずれか一方からの出射光の経路に配置された直線偏光素子とからなっていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の面光源。
- 観察側とその反対側とにそれぞれ偏光板を備えた液晶表示素子と、
光の出射面を有し、前記出射面から、予め定めた方向に偏光面を有する直線偏光と非偏光のそれぞれ予め定めた広がりの範囲を持った光を選択的に出射する光源部と、前記光源部の出射側に配置され、予め定めた形状に形成した複数の第1の位相差部と第2の位相差部とを少なくとも一方の方向に交互に並べて配列した一方の位相差層と、前記一方の位相差層に間隔をおいて対向配置され、前記第1及び第2の位相差部にそれぞれ対応する形状に形成した複数の第3の位相差部と第4の位相差部とを前記第3の位相差部を前記第1の位相差部に対応させ、前記第4の位相差部を前記第2の位相差部に対応させて配列した他方の位相差層とを有し、前記光源部から出射した前記直線偏光に対する前記第1と第3の位相差部の合計位相差及び前記第2と第4の位相差部の合計位相差をそれぞれ前記直線偏光の偏光面を実質的に90°回転させる値に設定し、前記直線偏光に対する前記第1と第4の位相差部の合計位相差及び前記第2と第3の位相差部の合計位相差をそれぞれ前記直線偏光の偏光面を実質的に180°回転させる値に設定した位相差素子とからなり、前記液晶表示素子の観察側とは反対側に、前記位相差素子を前記液晶表示素子に対向させ、且つ前記光源部から出射する前記直線偏光の偏光面を前記液晶表示素子の観察側とは反対側の偏光板の透過軸と実質的に直交にして配置され、前記光源部から前記位相差素子の法線方向に出射した前記直線偏光を、前記位相差素子の前記第1と第3の位相差部及び第2と第4の位相差部により、前記光源部から出射した前記直線偏光の偏光面に対して実質的に直交する偏光面を持った直線偏光からなる第1の照明光にして前記液晶表示素子に向けて出射し、前記光源部から前記第1と第4の位相差部を透過する方向、及び前記第2と第3の位相差部を透過する方向へそれぞれ斜めに出射した前記直線偏光を、前記第1と第4の位相差部及び前記第2と第3の位相差部により、前記光源部から出射した前記直線偏光の偏光面と実質的に平行な偏光面を持った直線偏光からなる第2の照明光にして前記液晶表示素子に向けて出射し、前記光源部から出射した非偏光の光を、前記予め定めた広がりの範囲を持った非偏光の光からなる第3の照明光として前記液晶表示素子に向けて出射することを特徴とする面光源と、
を備えたことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 面光源の位相差素子の第1と第2の位相差部及び第3と第4の位相差部は、液晶表示素子の画面の左右方向及び上下方向と実質的に平行な2つの方向に交互に並べて形成されていることを特徴する請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。
