Claims (9)
- 入力アクセス導波路(101;401)から第1の選択された出力アクセス導波路(101,102,103,104,105;401,402)への光信号の空間選択切り換え用のデバイスであって、
複数のアクセス導波路に接続するため第1の面にN個のアクセス部を有するマルチモード干渉(MMI)導波路(106;403;107)であって、前記MMI導波路は、Nが1より大きい整数であるとき、光伝播方向に、前記MMI導波路内に伝播するN以下のi番目のアクセス導波路でのイメージが、前記第1の面と対向する第2の面でN個の自己イメージを生成するような長さを有する、MMI導波路と、
前記MMI導波路内の前記第2の面の近くに位置決めされ、前記N個の自己イメージを前記MMI導波路の前記第1の面に向けて反射するように配置された反射手段(405;503;602)と、
前記第2の面に入射光の伝播方向と直交する直線に配置されているN個の独立した移相器を用いて前記第1の選択された出力アクセス導波路に単一の自己イメージを生成するように、前記N個の自己イメージそれぞれの位相を調整する手段(109,110,111,112,113;404;501;601)と、を備え、
前記反射手段が、前記N個の独立した移相器のそれぞれの光の伝播方向と対向する面上に配置され、
前記N個の独立した移相器が、該N個の独立した移相器の位置を、前記MMI導波路における光の伝播方向と平行な方向に調整する手段(504,505)を含むことを特徴とするデバイス。 - 前記MMI導波路にi番目のアクセス導波路で入る前記光信号に由来する、前記N個の自己イメージのそれぞれが、位相Pn,iを有し、該位相Pn,iは一つのセットPiにおける前記第2の面での前記N個の自己イメージの位相分布を示し、
前記自己イメージそれぞれの位相を調整する前記手段が、入力アクセス導波路iからの自己イメージの位相分布Piを、選択された出力アクセス導波路jの位相分布Pjに一致させるように、前記第2の面に配置されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のデバイス。 - 前記移相器それぞれが、前記移相器の少なくとも一部の屈折率を調整する手段を備えていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のデバイス。
- 前記屈折率が、温度を調整すること又は前記移相器の少なくとも一部に電圧を印加することによって調整されることを特徴とする請求項3に記載のデバイス。
- 前記移相器の少なくとも一部が前記MMI導波路における光の伝播方向と平行な方向に移動可能であり、前記位置を調整する手段が、前記移相器の前記少なくとも一部を前記光の伝播方向に移動させるように配置されたマイクロメカニカルデバイスであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のデバイス。
- 前記MMI導波路と前記移相器それぞれとの間に、屈折率整合手段(506)が設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のデバイス。
- 前記移相器のそれぞれが、間に所定の分離距離(406)だけおいて並んで配置されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のデバイス。
- 入力アクセス導波路から第1の選択された出力アクセス導波路への光信号の切り換えの方法であって、
前記入力アクセス導波路と前記第1の出力アクセス導波路とを含む複数のアクセス導波路に接続するためのN個のアクセス部を前記第1の面に有するMMI導波路を用いて、Nが1より大きい整数であるとき、光伝播方向に、前記MMI導波路内を伝播するN以下のi番目のアクセス導波路でのイメージにより第1の面と対向する第2の面にN個の自己イメージを生成する工程を有し、
前記第2の面の近傍で、前記N個の自己イメージを前記MMI導波路の前記第1の面に向けて反射する工程と、
前記第2の面への入射光の伝播方向と直交する直線に配置されているN個の独立した移相器を用いて、前記第1の選択された出力アクセス導波路に単一の自己イメージを生成するように、前記N個の自己イメージそれぞれの位相を調整する工程と、
前記N個の独立した移相器の位置を、前記MMI導波路における光の伝播方向と平行な方向に調整する工程と
を備えることを特徴とする方法。 - 前記N個の独立した移相器の屈折率を調整する工程を更に備えることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の方法。
