Abstract
Description
【0001】
この点については、R.J.Good、J.Adhesion Sci.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The invention particularly relates to a lithographic printing layer for a blanket cylinder of any structure. The invention also relates to a blanket cylinder adapted to this layer.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In general, the offset printing process uses a cylinder and an offset plate that covers the cylinder, and the offset plate comes into contact with water and ink to form a latent image. Subsequently, the latent image is transferred to a blanket cylinder. The outer portion of the blanket cylinder has a lithographic printing layer that can transfer an image onto a medium such as paper.
[0003]
The transfer of water and ink from the offset plate to the lithographic printing layer, followed by the transfer from the lithographic printing layer to the paper, the affinity of the offset plate for water and ink, the affinity of the lithographic printing layer of the blanket cylinder and the paper Determined by affinity.
[0004]
These parameters are related to the surface energy, which is based on the dispersive component and the polar component . This point is described in RJGood, J. Adhesion Sci. Technol., Vol. 6, No. 12, p. 1269, 1992.
[0005]
In summary, polar surface energy is expressed in millijoules per square meter, which can characterize ink and water transfer capabilities and involves three factors:
-Polarity against water. This wetting ability and ink with water - using et al is to indicate a wetting ability of water emulsions.
-Polarity to formamide. This is used to show the basicity of the surface, i.e. the affinity with the acid wetting solution.
-Polarity relative to dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). This is used to show the acid value of the surface, that is, the affinity with an ink having a slightly basic polar component.
[0006]
Also, the surface energy of dispersion is specified for that dispersive component.
[0007]
If good transfer of ink to paper is desired, it is necessary to find an appropriate compromise between the values of each of the above components. As a result, good transferability of the ink-water emulsion from the offset plate to the lithographic printing layer and good transferability from the blanket cylinder to the paper can be obtained.
[0008]
Most of the lithographic printing layers for conventional blanket cylinders are made from nitrile rubber. Such conventional lithographic layers have a non-polar or weakly polar surface, so they are slightly wetted by polar water and the ink tends to accumulate in the layer and easily smudge the surface of the blanket cylinder It will be. Furthermore, the transferability of ink to paper is far from the ideal value, and the printability is poor.
[0009]
If dispersible components of the lithographic printing layer is rather small, if provided from the offset plate of the ink to the lithographic layer is small, it has been found to adversely affect the printing process.
[0010]
On the other hand, if the dispersion component of the lithographic layer is not large, but a large amount of ink is provided to the blanket cylinder, the release of the ink to the paper becomes difficult, and so that the blanket cylinder is stained.
[0011]
Therefore, it is necessary to frequently clean or replace the blanket cylinder, and printing with a blanket cylinder having a lithographic printing layer made of nitrile rubber requires a large amount of ink.
[0012]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The object of the present invention is to improve all the above-mentioned problems and problems. By using a lithographic printing layer having a remarkable polarity, substantially all of the ink taken up by the lithographic printing layer of the blanket cylinder is paper. To try to transcribe to.
[0013]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The subject of the present invention is a lithographic printing layer for a blanket cylinder, wherein the lithographic printing layer is a layer of thermoplastic material, thereby maximizing the transfer of printing ink from the blanket cylinder to the paper.
[0014]
According to another characteristic of the invention, the thermoplastic material mentioned is based on polyurethane or ethylene-propylene copolymer.
[0015]
For example, a thermoplastic material, individually or as a mixture, a polyurethane containing magnesium silicate, A Le amino silicates, inorganic and / or organic fillers such as metal oxides, and a plasticizer such as ester or polymeric type.
[0016]
According to yet another feature, the lithographic printing layer of the invention is characterized in that the thermoplastic material comprises an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer.
[0017]
According to still another feature, the lithographic printing layer of the present invention comprises a polyurethane containing about 0 to 30 parts by weight of filler and about 0 to 10 parts by weight of plasticizer with respect to 100 parts by weight of polyurethane. .
[0018]
According to the present invention, the lithographic printing layer may contain 0 to 20 parts by weight of EVA copolymer with respect to 100 parts by weight of polyurethane.
[0019]
According to a preferred embodiment, lithographic layer is greater than 0 to 20 parts by weight of EVA copolymer to 100 parts by weight of the polyurethane, 0 to 30 parts by weight of an inorganic filler and those containing a plasticizer 0-10 parts by weight.
[0020]
The lithographic printing layer of the present invention may have 0 to 2 parts by weight of at least one pigment based on 100 parts by weight of polyurethane.
[0021]
According to yet another feature, the lithographic printing layer of the present invention has a polar surface, a polar component having a value of 0-20 mJ / m 2 with respect to water, and 0-20 mJ with respect to formamide. / m has a polar component having a value of 2, have the same polarity component as the polarity for approximately formamide respect dimethyl sulfoxide. Preferably, the polar component has a value of 5~15mJ / m 2 with respect to water, may have a value of 0~10mJ / m 2 relative to formamide.
[0022]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Other features and advantages of the invention are further described below.
The polar lithographic printing layer of the present invention can be made from a thermoplastic polyurethane to which polarity has been imparted, for example by adding an ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer, an inorganic filler, a plasticizer and optionally a pigment. Polyurethane has strong chemical resistance. For example, trade names such as Laripur 7025, Uceflex PS4075, Resamine P1078, Estane58206 can be used.
[0023]
For example, ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer can be a type of copolymer known under the trade name Lavapren, which acts not only as a polar component but also as a polymer plasticizer. Also, various known plastomers such as chlorosulfurized polyethylene, carboxylated nitrile, hydrogenated nitrile, polyether known under the trade name Pebax can be substituted for ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer without departing from the subject matter of the present invention. Amides, polyamide powders known under the trade name Orgasol and other similar products can also be used to impart the desired surface properties to the lithographic printing layer.
[0024]
As the inorganic filler, for example, magnesium silicate known by the trade name Mistrom Vapor, aluminosilicate known by the trade name Sillitin, and metal oxides can be used.
[0025]
As explained above, plasticity is obtained by the special properties of Levapren EVA, but other plasticizers can be used without departing from the scope of the present invention. Plasticizers may be necessary to adjust the torsional modulus of the lithographic layer to mechanically match the paper non-uniformity and to provide the flexibility required for the printing process. is there.
[0026]
The pigment introduced into the thermoplastic polyurethane can be an inorganic pigment or a suitable organic pigment.
[0027]
In a preferred embodiment, the lithographic printing layer comprises the above components as shown below:
[0028]
[Table 1]
[0029]
By employing a specific value within the above range, the surface of the lithographic printing layer of the present invention is advantageously polar. More particularly, it has a polar component having a value of 0~20mJ / m 2 relative to water, have a polar component having a value of 0~20mJ / m 2 relative formamide, pairs dimethylsulfoxide It has a polar component whose value is the same as formamide.
[0030]
Further, polar components having values of 5 to 15 mJ / m 2 with respect to water and 0 to 10 mJ / m 2 with respect to formamide are preferable.
[0031]
In order to show the effect provided by the polar lithographic printing layer according to the invention, two known types of lithographic printing layers are formed, ie part of a blanket cylinder as described in US Pat. No. 4,303,721. The lithographic printing layer of the present invention comprises the acrylonitrile-based A layer (commercially available by the applicants under the trade name Polycell) and the B layer which is the composition described in Example 3 of US Pat. No. 5,294,481. Compared with.
[0032]
The compounding ratio of the component for preparing the lithographic printing layer of this invention used for the test is shown.
[0033]
[Table 2]
[0034]
In the following Table 1, the surface energy was calculated by the drop angle with a Kruss G10 apparatus. The comparative test with layer A and layer B consists of measuring the polarity for water (a), the polarity for formamide (b) and the polarity for dimethyl sulfoxide (c).
[0035]
[Table 3]
[0036]
It can be seen that the values of a, b and c are clearly higher in the polyurethanes according to the invention than in conventional lithographic printing layers A and B.
[0037]
The polarity of the lithographic printing layer of the present invention is clearly more pronounced than that of the conventional type, so that it has excellent cleaning properties and ink-to-paper transfer.
[0038]
The polarity of the surface facilitates the water-ink balance, which is important for offset printing, and the polarity of the surface can easily deposit the ink on the blanket cylinder, simplifying the ink transfer and cleaning processes.
[0039]
In addition, a test for ink transferability was also conducted. This test measures the amount of ink X (g / m 2 ) required to transfer the ink Y (g / m 2 ) to the paper. The test was conducted as follows. The test was carried out using an IGT AE type ink device, an IGT A2 type laboratory press and a balance for precision weighing on the order of 10 −4 g measurement accuracy. The lithographic printing layer was fixed to the disk of the IGT press with double-sided adhesive tape. The printing layer and the printing medium have a constant thickness (± 0.05 mm) and a thickness of less than 2.5 mm. The Sb of the surface of the sample is measured (sample area of blanket cylinder. 20 × 210 in the line direction for a 20 mm IGT disc). The weight of the disc with the lithographic printing layer attached was measured before (m0) and after (m1) inking. The amount of ink X (g / m 2 ) adhering to the sample is:
[0040]
[Expression 1]
[0041]
It is. The selected magenta ink is Skinnex number 2X76K + E. Since this ink is for drawing, printing is difficult.
[0042]
A paper strip was placed on the rotating part of the IGT press (sample paper dimensions are 25 × 290 mm). Two types of paper with different capillarity were selected. One is intended matte finish uncoated basis weight of 87 g / m 2, the other is intended gloss finish which is coated with a basis weight of 91g / m 2. The former has a porous and absorbent surface (sponge-like) while the latter is smooth and closed. Paper that was very sensitive to moisture in the air was stored in the test room and did not touch the paper during this time. Also, the paper strip was always printed in the same direction and the same surface (optionally selected). This is because the influence of the orientation of the paper fiber is ignored.
[0043]
The printing conditions were constant for pressure (250 N / cm) and speed (3.5 m / sec), and also for temperature (22 ° C.) and relative humidity (0%).
The weight of the disc was measured again (m2).
Since the thickness of the tested sample determines the circumference of the printing disk, it also determines the sample / paper contact area. Note that the print area may be different from the printed area. The transferred ink amount Y is obtained from the difference in weight between before printing (m4) and after printing (m3), and the printed region Sp. The amount of ink Y (g / m 2 ) transferred to the paper is:
[0044]
[Expression 2]
[0045]
It is.
[0046]
For example, by increasing the ink amount X to the printing disk to 1 to about 5 g / m 2 , leaving the ink in the ink device for a long time, or increasing the amount of ink in the ink device, multiple tests. It is necessary to do. In the test, a straight line Y = f (X) was obtained, and the slope and length thereof were obtained from a regression line. This straight line was used to determine the amount of ink X required for the blanket cylinder to obtain Y of 1.0 and 1.5 g / m 2 for the paper. The results of the test, i.e. the amount of ink X required to obtain the desired result, are shown in the following table. The test results describe two types of paper and two types of ink amount Y.
[0047]
[Table 4]
[0048]
It can be seen that these test results were performed on the polyurethane of the present invention, the conventional lithographic printing layer A, and other conventional lithographic printing layers B, as in Table 1. The test was performed on a blanket cylinder provided with each of the above-described layers (that is, polyurethane of the present invention, layer A and layer B) in the circumferential direction. The test determines the amount of ink X required for transfer of ink amounts of 1.0 and 1.5 g / m 2 on coated or uncoated paper as described above.
[0049]
From the above table it can be seen that the value of the lithographic printing layer comprising the polar polyurethane according to the invention is lower than the others. This indicates that the lithographic printing layer according to the present invention requires less ink on the blanket cylinder to achieve the desired result on the paper.
In other words, the ink consumption of the blanket cylinder is significantly reduced since the proportion of ink in the lithographic printing layer is relatively small, and the clogging of the lithographic printing layer is also reduced.
In addition, water consumption is reduced and paper deformation due to water is prevented. In addition, the surface of the lithographic printing layer of the blanket cylinder is likely to get wet.
[0050]
The lithographic printing layer of the present invention can be introduced into an offset blanket cylinder for attachment to an offset printer or a sleeve that is removable from the offset printer.
[0051]
Further, since the lithographic printing layer is thermoplastic, if the lithographic printing layer is damaged, it can be regenerated by, for example, locally applying heat to the damaged portion of the blanket cylinder or sleeve.
[0052]
Further, since the lithographic printing layer of the present invention is polar, unlike a blanket cylinder having a conventional lithographic printing layer, it is not necessary to use a dispersant for improving the transferability and antifouling property of the layer.
[0053]
The gist of the present invention is to provide a lithographic printing layer having a polarity excellent in ink consumption, antifouling property, and transferability to paper, which can be introduced into a blanket cylinder or a removable sleeve. There is no need for frequent exchanges.
[0054]
The above is for explaining the present invention by way of examples, and the present invention is not limited to the above description. Accordingly, those skilled in the art can employ ethylene-propylene copolymers or other thermoplastic elastomers instead of polyurethane without departing from the scope of the present invention.
The present invention includes techniques equivalent to those described above without departing from the scope of the present invention.
