本発明は、兎耳草又は小檗皮の抽出物からなることを特徴とする抗酸化剤、及び該抽出物を含有する皮膚外用剤を提供することにより上記目的を達成するものである。

【発明の実施の形態】
本発明に用いられる兎耳草とは、兔耳草とも表記し、短筒兎耳草(Lagotis brevituba Maxim.)、大萼兎耳草(Lagotis clarkei Hook. f.)、大筒兎耳草(Lagotis maerosiphon Tsoong et. H.P.Yang)及び円穂兎耳草(Lagotis ramalana Batalin)を示す総称でありいずれも単独でも組み合わせてでも用いることができ、小檗皮は、学名をCortex Berberidisといい、甘粛小檗(Berneris Kansuensis Schneid.)から得られるものであり、チベットで生薬として用いられてきた。兎耳草は抗脂血の作用があり、小檗皮は眼精疲労に効果があるとされてきた。

兎耳草又は小檗皮の抽出物を得るための抽出溶媒は、例えば、水、エタノール、プロパノール、ブタノール等の低級アルコール、1,3−ブチレングリコール、プロピレングリコール、グリセリン、ジプロピレングリコール等の多価アルコール類、又はこれらの混合物等が挙げられる。これらのうち、水単独、水とエタノールとの混液、水と1,3−ブチレングリコールとの混液が好ましく、エタノール又は1,3−ブチレングリコールと水との比率が1:1〜1:99(体積比)のものが更に好ましい。抽出は、低温、常温でも加熱して行なっても良い。考課の面より低音での抽出が好ましい。得られた抽出物は、適宜、精製、ろ過しても良く、また常法により濃縮、乾固して用いても良い。
