本発明は、機器の消耗品を管理する消耗品管理システムに関し、特にネットワークを利用した機器の消耗品の消耗品管理システムに関する。

【従来の技術】
機器の各種消耗品(例えばプリンタ等の画像形成装置に使用されるトナー等)には劣化するまでに所定の寿命があるが、利用者の使用状態によってはこの所定の寿命よりも少ない使用で各種消耗品が早期に劣化することがある。これに関して消耗品自体の寿命を検知する技術や、消耗品の交換があったことを判断する技術が知られている(特開平10-198236)。また、消耗品の寿命が近づいたことを検知し、交換の必要性をセンターシステムに知らせる技術も知られている。これら従来技術において示されているように、機器が消耗品の寿命が近づいたことを検知し、消耗品の交換の必要性をセンターシステムに送信する。そしてセンターシステムに送信された情報を受け、各サービス拠点からCE(カスタマーエンジニア)が派遣され、消耗品交換等の保守作業を行うということが一般的に行われている。

しかしながら、上述のように従来技術においては各消耗品が所定の寿命だけ使用されたのか否かの判断の手段がなく、また機器の使用状態の詳細な情報が記録されていないため、所定の使用度より少ない使用度で交換された原因の調査を行うことができないという問題がある。

本発明は、上記の点に鑑みてなされたものであって、各種消耗品が所定の使用度より少ない使用度で交換されたことを検知することができ、またその場合には、早期劣化原因の究明を効率的に行うことができる消耗品管理システムの提供を目的とする。

そこで上記課題を解決するため、本発明は、機器と前記機器の消耗品を管理する消耗品管理サーバがネットワークを介して接続される消耗品管理システムであって、前記機器は、前記機器の使用状態を示す使用状態情報を記憶する使用状態記憶手段と、前記消耗品が所定の使用度より少ない使用度で交換されたことを検知する使用度検知手段と、前記使用度検知手段が検知した前記消耗品の消耗品識別情報と当該消耗品に関する使用状態情報を前記使用状態記憶手段から読み出して前記消耗品管理サーバに送信する送信手段とを有し、前記消耗品管理サーバは、前記機器から前記使用状態情報を受信する受信手段と、受信した前記使用状態情報を蓄積する蓄積手段とを有することを特徴とする。

次に、本発明の実施の形態について図面に基づいて説明する。

図1は、本発明による消耗品管理システムの一例の構成図を示す。本実施例においては、機器としてプリンタ、消耗品としてプリンタのトナーを具体例として説明する。図1の消耗品管理システム1は、トナー50を有するプリンタ10と消耗品管理サーバ20とが例えばインターネットや専用線等のネットワーク30を介して接続されている。

次に、プリンタ10について本発明に関する構成について説明する。図2は、本発明によるプリンタの一実施例のハードウェア構成図を示す。図2のプリンタ10は、それぞれバスBで相互に接続されている補助記憶装置100と、メモリ装置101と、演算処理装置102と、インタフェース装置103とを有する。またトナー50をプリンタ10に取り付けることにより、バスBにはトナー50に付けられているトナーメモリ装置104も接続される。

ここで、トナー50の現在の使用度、また寿命を示す使用度は後述するように両者の値を比較することによりトナーの早期劣化の検知に利用するものである。本実施例においてはそれぞれの使用度のパラメータの一つとしてプリント枚数を利用している。例えば寿命を示す使用度としてのプリント枚数が1000だとして、トナー50が交換された際にトナー50の現在の使用度としてのプリント枚数が700だった場合には、トナーが早期劣化したと判断する。なお、この使用度を示すパラメータは対象となる消耗品の劣化に密接に関係するものを消耗品の種類ごとに選択し、寿命を示す値は例えばプリント枚数の例でいうと、通常の使用をした場合に一つのトナーで印刷可能な枚数の平均値等を利用すると良い。

次に、消耗品管理サーバ20の詳細について説明する。図3は、本発明による消耗品管理サーバの一実施例のハードウェア構成図を示す。図3の消耗品管理サーバ20は、それぞれバスB2で相互に接続されているドライブ装置200と、記憶媒体201と、補助記憶装置202と、メモリ装置203と、演算処理装置204と、インタフェース装置205と、表示装置206とを有するように構成される。

図8はトナー使用度テーブルの一例の構成図を示す。トナー使用度テーブルは現在のトナー50の使用度を管理しているテーブルであり、トナー50が交換されてからの累積のプリント枚数を示すプリント枚数と、同じく累積の感光体の回転度を示す感光体回転度をデータ項目として有している。従って、ステップS106においては、新たに実行された印刷の枚数と、その際の感光体の回転度をこれまでのプリント枚数、感光体回転度に追加することになる。なお、ここで感光体回転度とは、感光体の回転数そのものや、10秒を一単位として何単位回転したかのように時間を尺度として使うことも考えられる。なお、トナー使用度テーブルはトナーメモリ装置104とプリンタの補助記憶装置100にそれぞれ格納され、トナー50が交換された直後を除いて両者には常に同期がとられ同じ値が格納されている。従ってステップS106では両者の値が更新される。
