Claims (4)
- スライダの磁気記録媒体と対向する記録媒体対向面のトレーリング側端部に薄膜磁気素子を有する薄膜磁気ヘッドスライダを製造する方法において、
スライダの母材となる基板のトレーリング側端部に、記録媒体対向面に臨む多数の薄膜磁気素子を整列させて形成する工程と;
一つの薄膜磁気素子を有するスライダを規定する領域間の、上記記録媒体対向面側の基板表面に位置する切断領域の中央に、先細の砥石によってV溝を形成する工程と;
上記V溝とV溝の間の基板表面に、記録媒体対向面をパターニングするためのレジスト層を設ける工程と;
上記レジスト層に覆われていない基板表面を、イオンミリングでエッチングして記録媒体対向面をパターニングする工程と;
上記V溝の最大幅よりも幅狭の砥石によって上記V溝の中央位置から切断して各スライダに分割する工程と;を有することを特徴とする磁気ヘッドの製造方法。 - 上記V溝を形成する工程は、先端部が先細の等脚台形または二等辺三角形形状の回転砥石で研削する工程を含む請求項1記載の磁気ヘッドの製造方法。
- 上記V溝を形成する工程は、2種以上のV溝砥石を使用する複数工程を含み、上記スライダの傾斜面は、上記記録媒体対向面と成す角度が段階的に大きくなる二面以上で形成する請求項1または2記載の磁気ヘッドの製造方法。
- 上記記録媒体対向面及び側面に鈍角で交わる傾斜面の角度が、それぞれ135°に設定されていることを特徴とする請求項1または2項記載の磁気ヘッドの製造方法。
