Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a display device, and more particularly to a flat panel type display device in which an internal sealed space has a lower pressure than the outside.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, a color cathode ray tube has been widely used as a display device excellent in high luminance and high definition. However, with the recent increase in image quality of information processing apparatuses and television broadcasting, there is an increasing demand for a flat display (panel display) that has high luminance and high definition characteristics and is lightweight and space-saving.
[0003]
As typical examples, liquid crystal display devices, plasma display devices and the like have been put into practical use. In particular, various types of panel display devices such as field emission displays (hereinafter also referred to as FEDs) and organic EL displays characterized by low power consumption are expected to be put to practical use as those capable of achieving high brightness. .
[0004]
Among such panel-type display devices, in a display device in which the sealed space between the two panels, the front panel and the rear panel, is lower than the atmospheric pressure or vacuum, the gap between the two panels is a predetermined value. It is necessary to maintain the airtightness of the sealed space. In order to form a sealed space in the facing gap between the two panels, it is necessary to insert a spacer on the inner peripheral wall of both panels. This spacer can be obtained by applying an adhesive (such as frit glass) by a dispenser or multiple printing. However, when the distance between the two panels is large, it is difficult for the spacer by such means to maintain a desired gap due to the flow and deformation of the adhesive, and it takes time for multiple printing.
[0005]
For example, in an FED in which the distance between both substrates is large, a glass plate is used as a panel material, and the gap between the sealed spaces formed between these glass plates (front panel and back panel) is about 1 mm or more. The gap is formed by fixing an outer frame made of a glass material having a necessary thickness to the front panel and the rear panel with an adhesive.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the above prior art, in the case where the two glass plates are bonded and fixed using the outer frame, when the display device is enlarged, it is easily damaged during handling, and the material is wasted, resulting in high costs. Become.
[0012]
In order to avoid this, it is conceivable to divide the outer frame into a plurality of members and combine and bond them together. However, the joined portions of the divided members after the adhesion are likely to leak, making it difficult to maintain airtightness. Resolving this has become one of the problems in the technical field.
[0013]
The object of the present invention is to solve the above-mentioned problems of the prior art and maintain the gap at a predetermined value even when the gap between the two glass plates is relatively large, and maintain the hermeticity of the sealed space. It is to provide a display device.
[0014]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention comprises a front panel, a back panel, and an outer frame, and the front panel, the back panel, and the outer frame are fixed by a bonding material, and the front panel, the back panel, A display device in which the sealed space inside the panel and the outer frame is lower than the outside,
The outer frame is constituted by a plurality of wall members, and has at least a part of inclined surfaces in each of the parts of the adjacent wall members that are engaged with each other.
The intersection angle between the normal line of the slope and the normal line of the front panel or the back panel is an acute angle,
The slope portions engaged with each other are fixed with the bonding material interposed therebetween.
[0015]
With this configuration, in the sealing process, a bonding material is applied to the inclined surfaces of the outer frame that engage with each other, pressure is applied from the direction of the front panel and the rear panel, and the bonding material is melted by heating to a high temperature. In this case, since the intersecting angle between the normal line of the slope and the normal line of the front panel or the back panel is an acute angle, pressure is applied to the slope portions, and the bonding material in between tends to spread throughout. Therefore, it can be surely sealed, it is difficult for internal pressure to leak, and airtightness of the sealed space can be maintained. On the other hand, when the engaging portions of the outer frame do not have slopes and are perpendicular to the front panel and the back panel, the direction of the front panel and the back panel when a bonding material is applied therebetween Even if pressure is applied, the joint and the joining material between them are not pressurized, so that they do not spread well and there is a possibility that a gap is formed in the joint.
[0016]
In addition, when the sealed space is set to a lower pressure or vacuum than the external atmosphere, the engaging slopes receive pressure from the back panel and the front panel, respectively, so that the engagement portion is less likely to leak, Airtightness is maintained.
[0017]
Furthermore, it is more preferable that the bonding material protrudes from between the slope portions engaged with each other because leakage hardly occurs.
[0018]
The low-pressure sealed space may be a vacuum.
[0019]
The wall member is preferably made of the same material as the front panel or the back panel, the wall member is preferably a glass material, and the bonding material is preferably frit glass.
[0020]
The present invention is particularly effective when applied to an FED in which a field emission element is formed on the back panel and the gap between the front panel and the back panel is 1 mm or more.
[0021]
Further, the wall member has the slopes at both ends thereof, one of the slopes at the both ends is a slope facing the front panel, and the other of the slopes at the both ends is toward the back panel. It is preferable that the slope be facing.
[0022]
The wall member has the inclined surfaces at both ends thereof, and both the inclined surfaces are inclined toward the front panel, or the inclined surfaces at both ends are both facing the back panel. It may be a facing slope.
[0023]
The slope portions that engage with each other may have irregularities that mesh with each other at least partially.
[0024]
Note that the present invention is not limited to the above-described configuration and the configuration of the embodiments described later, and it goes without saying that various modifications can be made without departing from the technical idea of the present invention.
[0025]
