本発明は、テレビジョン番組情報データベースを用いる改善されたテレビジョンインターフェイスシステムに関するものである。

【従来の技術】
米国特許第5,047,867 号はユーザにそのユーザの気に入ったテレビジョン番組に関する情報を入れることを可能にしたテレビジョン−ビデオカセットレコーダシステム用のインターフェイスを記載していた。その情報は、番組名、放送チャネル、開始時刻、長さ、反復パターン及びユーザが記録された番組を希望したかどうかを含み得る。その特許は更にそのような情報が直観的な且つ容易な方法でテレビジョン受信機のディスプレーを通して与えられ得るインターフェイスシステムを記載している。この特許の技術はここに参考文献により組み込まれる。

本発明の目的は、連続的に更新され且つケーブル又は衛星送信通路により放送されるか又はその他の「高速データ」通路を与えられる装荷テレビジョン番組情報をアクセスできるユーザインターフェイスを提供することであり、且つこの情報をユーザの好みと自動的に相関させ、その相関の結果に基づいた少なくとも一つの番組情報データベースを創造することである。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明の一実施例は、テレビジョンプログラミングと一緒に、例えば来週用に予定されたテレビジョン番組の文書概要を含み得る、更新できるテレビジョン番組情報を与えるテレビジョン送信システムによって用いられ得るインターフェイスシステムを具えている。特に、このインターフェイスシステムは、テレビジョン受信機、ビデオカセットレコーダ、及びテレビジョン番組情報を含み得る多様なデータと同時に圧縮されたオーディオ／ビデオデータを運び得るディジタル送信システムと一緒に用いられ得るプロセッサを具え得る。好適な実施例においては、そのプロセッサはテレビジョン番組情報を聴視者の好みと相関させるために「自由文書」探索技術を使用する。

【実施例】
ここに記載される本発明の実施例は、本出願の譲り受け人により取得され、且つ本発明と共通の発明性を有する米国特許第5,047,867 号に最初に記載された多くの特徴を与える。この米国特許第5,047,867 号は、メモリの部分がプログラミング情報の種々の範疇を記憶するために用いられ得る方法を記載している。例えば、第１メモリ部分が、データベースの形態で、ユーザにより好まれる番組に関する情報と同時に、将来のテレビジョン番組に関する情報を記憶できる。このデータベースをアクセスすることにより、そのユーザは進歩したメニューとディスプレーとのシステム及び拡張されたチャネル環を用いて、「お気に入りの放送番組」と同時に「将来の番組」を表示できる。米国特許第5,047,867 号に記載された特定データベースからユーザへ情報を与えるための技術は、本発明の表示要求に容易に適合され得て、且つここに参考文献により組み込まれる。

選択されたテレビジョンプログラミング情報記録を観察するに際して、聴視者はその時表示された選択を「好む」か又は「嫌う」かどうかを記録できる（ステップ115)。聴視者が入力できる正又は負のフィードバックのどの種類でも表現するために「好む」及び「嫌う」の語を用いる。例えば、「好む」の応答は（米国特許第5,047,867 号に記載されたように）その番組が記録されねばならぬことを示すボタンを聴視者が押すことによりなされ得る。それはまた遠隔制御装置42上の「好む」ボタンのキー押圧により単純になされ得る。「好む」応答を入力することにより（ステップ125)、第２データベース内の（メモリ部分54内の）その記録と一緒に、フラグがその記録内に設定され且つそれから記憶される。聴視者による負の応答は「嫌う」と印を付けられた遠隔制御装置42上のボタンを押圧することにより同様になされ得て、それが第２データベース内の記録と共に記憶された記録内に相当するフラグを設定する（ステップ120)。その目的は第２データベースとして第１データベースから選択された記録（すなわちテレビジョン番組）のみを含んでいるデータベースを創造することであり、その第２データベースに対して聴視者は明瞭な好み又は嫌悪を有する。

表示された記録に対して「好む」または「嫌う」を記録した後に、ユーザは時刻(t) を増加又は減少し、且つチャネル(ch)を同じに維持することにより、異なる時刻において同じチャネルを有する記録を探索することを継続でき（ステップ130)、あるいは同じ時刻であるが異なるチャネルを有する全部の記録を（チャネル(ch)を増加又は減少し、且つ時刻(t) を同じに維持することにより）探索することができる。新しく選択されたチャネル(ch)と時刻(t) との双方又はいずれか一方がこの時第２記録を見つけ且つ聴視者にそれを表示するために用いられる。聴視者が意見を持たない（即ち「好む」でも「嫌う」でもない）場合には、前の（又は次の）記録を選択するために遠隔制御装置42上の「次／前」を単純に押圧できる。実時間に聴視者がテレビジョン番組を、観察と記録との双方又はいずれか一方をした時にも、「好まれた」が自動的に第２データベース内に記録され得る。言い換えれば、聴視者の意見において、所定の時間の量（例えば少なくとも15分）より長い間の、単にテレビジョン番組を観察することと記録することとの双方又はいずれか一方が、「好む」応答として自動的に記録され且つ選択された番組に相当する第１データベース内の記録を第２データベース内に記憶されるようにする。

第２データベースを発展させる目的は、メモリ部分56内に記憶された第３データベース内に個人専用化されたテレビジョン番組情報データベースをユーザが発展させることを可能にすることである。この第３データベースは、第２データベース内に記憶され且つ「好む」として指示された今後の番組か又は図５に記載された関心整合モードにおいて第１データベースから自動的に選択された番組かのいずれかに相当する好適な番組のみを観察するための選択を聴視者に許容するために、遠隔制御装置42を介して聴視者によりアクセスされ得る。

このユーザは遠隔制御装置42上のどちらかの適切なボタンを押圧することによりこの過程を始めることができ（ステップ200)、あるいはこのモードはテレビジョン受信機を単純にオンすることにより始められ得て、すなわち毎回装荷されるテレビジョン番組データベースが更新される。

第２データベース内に記憶された記録を選択した後に（ステップ210)、記録の文書概要を含んでいる分野が既述の「自由文書」探索技術と、ここに組み込まれた参考文献とに従って解析される（ステップ215)。“a", “the"その他のような重要でない語は除去される。残りの語はそれらの幹語に低減される（すなわち接頭辞及び接尾辞が除去される）。各「好む」記録内の各幹語は正の重みを与えられる。同時には「好む」ショー内の幹語ではない各「嫌う」ショー内の各幹語は負の重みを与えられる。これらの幹語と重みとによって、「単純な質問」が第１データベース、すなわち装荷されるテレビジョン番組データベースから与えられる全記録にわたって実行される。

「単純な質問」（ステップ220)において、第１データベース内のあらゆる記録がそれが含む幹語に対する重みを加算することにより（潜在的回復値に対して）採点される。全体得点がそれからそれぞれの文書記録の長さに対して正規化される。付加的な技術がこの質問、特にここに組み込まれたスタンフィル(Stanfill)及びカーレ(Kahle）による参考文献内に記載さた「代理符号化“surrogate cod- ing"」を加速するために用いられ得る。最高の回復値（すなわち重み）を有する記録は提案として取り上げられ、且つ第３データベース内で「好む」として聴視者により実際にフラグを付けられた記録と一緒に年代順に記憶される。この時第３データベースは、第１データベース内に最初に記憶された装荷されるテレビジョンデータベースの個人専有化改作として、聴視者によりアクセスされ得る。

かくして、本発明は装荷されるテレビジョン番組データベースの個人専有化改作を発生するために、例えば「自由文書」探索技術を用いる自動的仕方で、ユーザの好みを相関させることをユーザに許容するための方法を提供する。

双方向対話形システム（例えば双方向ケーブルテレビジョン、電話システムその他）の場合には、図３のプロセッサとデータベースとが頭部端（ケーブルテレビジョン会社又は電話会社）に置かれ得て、あるいは頭部端とテレビジョンセットとの間に分配される。

第１データベース52はテレビジョンショー以外のもの（例えば生の演技）を含むように拡張され得る。それらの書き上げがユーザの興味と整合する場合には、それらも（第３の）個人専有化されたデータベース56内に含まれ得る。

Claims (4)

  1. 今後のテレビジョン番組の概要情報データを含む電子的情報データベースを受信し、記憶し、表示する手段を具えるシステムにおいて用いる、個人専有化されたテレビジョン番組情報案内を提供する装置であって、
    前記概要情報データから第１概要情報データを選択し、この第１概要情報データに対して好むか嫌うかを指示する手段と、
    前記第１概要情報データを記憶する手段と、
    前記第１概要情報データを分析し、第１探索情報を決定する手段と、
    前記第１探索情報を使用し、前記概要情報データから第２概要情報データを選択する手段と、
    前記第２概要情報データを、前記個人専有化されたテレビジョン番組情報案内を形成するように記憶する手段とを具えることを特徴とする装置。
  2. 請求項１に記載の装置において、前記第１概要データを分析し、第１探索情報を決定する手段が、フリーテキストサーチを行うことを特徴とする装置。
  3. 今後のテレビジョン番組の概要情報データを含む電子情報データベースを受信し、記憶し、表示する手段を具えるシステムにおいて用いる、個人専有化されたテレビジョン番組情報を提供する方法であって、
    前記概要情報データから第１概要情報データを選択し、この第１概要情報データに対して好むか嫌うかを指示するステップと、
    前記第１概要情報データを記憶するステップと、
    前記第１概要情報データを分析し、第１探索情報を決定するステップと、
    前記第１探索情報を使用し、前記概要情報データから第２概要情報データを選択するステップと、
    前記第２概要情報データを、前記個人専有化されたテレビジョン番組情報案内を形成するように記憶するステップとを含むことを特徴とする方法。
  4. 請求項３に記載の方法において、前記第１概要データを分析し、第１探索情報を決定するステップが、フリーテキストサーチを行うステップを含むことを特徴とする方法。
