Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明は、熱可塑性のプラスチックシートの積層体を
連続的に線状ないし帯状に溶着するとともに、その溶着
部と平行して切断を行うプラスチックシートの連続溶着
・切断の方法に関するものである。
〔発明の概要〕
本発明は、回転軸を有する円柱状の受治具と、該受治
具外周面に対向して近接して設けた超音波ホーンによ
り、プラスチックシートの積層体を、前記超音波ホーン
の超音波振動により連続的に、線状ないし帯状に溶着す
るとともに、その溶着部と平行して切断を行うプラスチ
ックシートの連続溶着・切断の方法において、前記受治
具には少なくとも回転軸に略垂直な受治具垂直面を受治
具の外周面に沿って設け、一方、超音波ホーンの先端部
には、受治具外周面に対向して近接する面をもつ外周面
対向部と、前記受治具垂直面に対向して接する平行面を
もつ垂直面対向部を設けて、溶着は前記受治具外周面と
前記外周面対向部の作用で行われ、切断は前記受治具垂
直面と垂直面対向部の作用で行われるようにして、超音
波振動停止時の前記受治具外周面と前記外周面対向部と
の間隙を印加される超音波振動の振幅の1/2より大き
く、また印加される超音波周期の中で、最近接時の間隙
を溶着されるプラスチックシート1枚の厚さよりも小さ
くなるように設定することによって、超音波ホーンの先
端部および受治具の磨耗が少なく、かつ安定した溶着強
度および確実な切断を行うことができるプラスチックシ
ートの連続溶着・切断方法である。
〔従来の技術〕
熱可塑性のプラスチックシートの積層体を連続的に線
状ないし帯状に溶着するとともにその溶着部と平行して
切断を行うプラスチックシート(以下、単にシートを記
す)の連続溶着・切断の方法としては、超音波振動を用
いる方法、高周波の電磁波を用いる方法などがあるが、
作業性の良さなどの理由から、最近では超音波振動を用
いる方法がより多く用いられる。
次に、超音波振動を用いたシートの連続溶着・切断方
法の従来例を第7図ないし第11図を参照して説明する。
第7図は、従来例を示した全体構成図である。2枚の
シート25a、25bは第1のガイドローラ23で積層された後
に、回転軸を有する円柱状の受治具22と該受治具外周面
22aに対向して近接する面をもつ超音波ホーン(以下、
単にホーンと記す)先端部21の間隙に導かれ、そこで溶
着および切断が連続的に行われ、切断された端切れ27は
除かれて端部を溶着された積層シート26は第2のガイド
ローラ24を通して回収される。ここで用いられるホーン
先端部21と受治具外周面22aの近傍の模式的な拡大正面
図を第8図に示す。また、第9図、第10図はその模式的
拡大側面図であって、第9図は、シートの溶着、切断位
置を模式的に示し(28は溶着部を示す)、第10図では超
音波振動停止時の位置におけるホーン先端部21を実線
で、また超音波振動(振幅P)印加時の振動周期の中で
最近接時および最遠離時におけるホーン先端部21の位置
をいずれも破線で示している。第7図ないし第9図で示
すように、ホーン先端部21は先端が丸みをもっており、
第9図で示すようにその最先端部で切断が生じ、その周
辺部で溶着が生じるのである。第10図に示すように超音
波振動停止時のホーン先端部21と受治具外周面22aとの
間隙をSとすると、切断が生じるためにはS≦P/2でな
ければならない。つまり切断のためにはホーン先端部21
を受治具外周面22aに押し当てて接触させなければなら
ない。
第11図は、別の従来例として示したもので、受治具32
の外周面32aに垂直面32bをもつ溝部32cを円周方向に設
け、溝部の角に丸みをもつホーンの先端部31を押し当て
て切断を行うとともに、溶着をその周辺で行う(例え
ば、特開昭63−145013を参照)。
〔発明が解決しようとする課題〕
しかしながら、いずれの場合においても、ホーンの先
端部を受治具外周面に押し当てて接触させる必要があ
り、必然的にホーン先端部を受治具の一方ないし両方が
磨耗し易い。そのためにホーン先端部と受治具外周面の
間隙の調整やホーン先端部や受治具の交換の頻度が高く
なり、生産性の低下、コストアップを招き、また溶着強
度が安定しなかったり、切断の確実性に欠けるなどの問
題があった。
〔課題を解決するための手段〕
本発明は、回転軸を有する円柱状の受治具と、該受治
具外周面に対向して近接して設けたホーンによりシート
積層体を前記ホーンの超音波振動により、連続的に線状
ないし帯状に溶着するとともに、その溶着部と平行して
切断を行うシートの連続溶着・切断の方法において、前
述した問題を解決するために、前記受治具には受治具の
回転軸に垂直な受治具垂直面を受治具の端面に設け、一
方、ホーン先端部には受治具外周面に対向して近接する
面をもつ外周面対向部と、前記受治具垂直面に接する平
行面をもつ垂直面対向部を設け、超音波振動停止時の外
周面対向部と受治具外周面との間隙は印加される超音波
振動の振幅の1/2より大きく、(従って、外周面対向部
は受治具外周面に接触しない)また、超音波振動の周期
の中で、前記受治具外周面と前記外周面対向部の最近接
時の間隙は、溶着されるシート1枚の厚さよりも小さく
なるように設定して行うシートの連続溶着・切断の方法
である。
〔作用〕
前述した方法では、超音波振動によるシートの溶着は
ホーン先端部の中の外周面対向部と受治具外周面からシ
ートに加えられる振動による発熱作用で生じ、一方、シ
ートの切断はホーン先端部の中の垂直面対向部と受治具
垂直面からシートに加えられる振動による発熱作用で溶
融することによって生ずる(溶断)。シートの溶着にお
いては、外周面対向部と受治具外周面は直接接触しない
ので、直接接触する場合に比べて、それらの磨耗は著し
く少ない。また、超音波振動の周期の中で、外周面対向
部と受治具外周面の最近接間隙は、溶着されるシート1
枚の厚さより小さいので、積層された2枚のシートのい
ずれもが必ず溶融する。シートの切断においては、垂直
面対向部と受治具垂直面は特に押圧される必要はないの
で、それらの磨耗は少ない。
〔実施例〕
本発明の実施例を第1図ないし第6図を参照して説明
する。
第1図は実施例を示した全体構成図である。2枚のシ
ート15a、15bは第1のガイドローラ13で積層された後
に、回転軸を有する円柱状の受治具12とその外周面すな
わち受治具外周面12aに対向して近接して設けたホーン
先端部11の間隙に導かれ、そこで溶着および切断が連続
的に行われ、切断された端切れ17は除かれ、端部を溶着
された積層シート16は第2のガイドローラ14を通して回
収される。ここで用いられるホーン先端部11と受治具外
周面12aの近傍の模式的な拡大正面図を第2図に示す。
また、第3図、第4図はその側面図であって、第3図は
シートの溶着、切断位置を模式的に示し(18は溶着部を
示す)、第4図では、超音波振動停止時の位置における
ホーン先端部11を実線で、また超音波振動(振幅P)印
加時の振動周期の中で最近接時および最遠離時における
ホーン先端部11の位置をいずれも破線で示している。第
1図ないし第3図で示されるように、受治具12は受治具
の回転軸に垂直な受治具垂直面12bを受治具の端面に有
し、一方、ホーン先端部11は、受治具外周面12aに対向
して近接する面をもつ外周面対向部11aと受治具垂直面1
2bに対向して接する平行面をもつ垂直面対向部11bを有
する。第2図には、ホーン先端部11と受治具22の間隙に
導かれようとしている積層された2枚のシート、15a、1
5bが模式的に示されている。ここでtはシート1枚の厚
さを示す。
第4図で示すように、受治具外周面12aと外周面対向
部11aの間隙を、超音波振動停止時にはS、超音波振動
(振幅P)が印加されている時の最近接時にはS′(=
S−1/2P)で表わすとすると、S>P/2およびS′=S
−1/2P<t、従ってP/2<S<t+P/2となるように設定
することにより、ホーン先端部および受治具の磨耗が著
しく少なく、しかも、安定した溶着強度と確実な切断を
連続的に行うことができる。
なお、本実施例では、受治具垂直面として、円柱状受
治具の端面を用いたが、第5図および第6図に示すよう
に、円柱状受治具の外周面に設けた段差部あるいは溝部
の垂直面を受治具垂直面として用いてもよい。
〔発明の効果〕
以上説明したように、本発明によれば、超音波振動を
用いるシートの連続溶着、切断の加工工程において、ホ
ーンおよび受治具の磨耗を少なくできるので、安定した
溶着強度および確実な切断が行えるようになる。
また、ホーンや受治具の調整や交換に要する時間を短
縮できるので、その経済的効果は大きい。

    (57)【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項1】回転軸を有する円柱状の受治具と、該受治
    具外周面に対向して近接して設けた超音波ホーンによ
    り、プラスチックの積層体を前記超音波ホーンの超音波
    振動により連続的に線状ないし帯状に溶着するととも
    に、その溶着部と平行して切断を行うプラスチックシー
    トの連続溶着・切断の方法において、前記受治具には少
    なくとも受治具の回転軸に略垂直な受治具垂直面を受治
    具の外周面に沿って設け、一方、超音波ホーンの先端部
    には、前記受治具外周面に対向して近接する面をもつ外
    周面対向部と前記受治具垂直面に対向して接する平行面
    をもつ垂直面対向部を設けることを特徴とするプラスチ
    ックシートの連続溶着・切断の方法。
  2. 【請求項2】超音波振動停止時の外周面対向部と受治具
    外周面との間隙は印加される超音波振動の振幅の1/2よ
    りも大きく、また印加される超音波振動の周期の中で、
    前記受治具外周面と前記外周面対向部の最近接時の間隙
    は溶着されるプラスチックシート1枚の厚さよりも小さ
    くなるように設定したことを特徴とする特許請求の範囲
    第1項記載のプラスチックシートの連続溶着・切断の方
    法。
